newsletter for Providence Park residents and familiesTRANSCRIPT
St. Elizabeth Place received a very generous donation of a grandfather clock from Luther and Barbara Tynes. The clock was given in memory of Louise Tynes,
Grandfather Clock is Striking Addition to St. Elizabeth Place Lobby
Luther’s mother who passed away in 2007.
Louise started working at St. Catherine Center in 1999 as a beautician when the facility was located on Colcord. Louise continued to work at Providence Park in the St. Catherine Center and St. Elizabeth Place beauty salons until her retirement in 2005. At the time of her retirement, Louise decided that she was ready to make Providence Park her home. She loved her Village apartment and was very involved in the social activities and served as a resident volunteer.
Louise Tynes was a part of so many residents’ lives. She

not only made folks look nice, but she gave that special attention that just made their day. Her talents were many and the kindness and gentleness that she showed is well remembered today.
We encourage everyone to stop by St. Elizabeth Place lobby and see the beautiful clock. The residents and staff all greatly appreciate this gift from the Tynes family.

Dr. Kirk was born in Kansas and received his education at Oklahoma State University where he obtained his PhD in Psychology. For the next twenty years he taught psychology at various colleges and universities in the Dallas area for advanced degrees. Simultaneously, he had a private practice, holding seminars in nursing homes and visiting with the residents.
He retired “from all this” in 1986.His wife, Virginia, is a resident at St. Catherine Center. Since she is unable to walk, it is unlikely that she will be able to join him here at The Village. She is a native Wacoan, so when it came time for retirement, they naturally returned to Waco.
They have two daughters: one in Canton and one
in Ft. Worth. There are two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Dr. and Mrs. Kirk have been married 71 years. They hope to be able to celebrate their 72nd anniversary with us here at Providence Park. Welcome to the Village Dr. Kirk.
Beginning in March there will be some changes to card bingo. Because the attendance is getting so large (A GOOD PROBLEM) we are going to have to separate the games for each area. The Village residents will now play their card bingo at 2:30 p.m. following their Resident Forum on the first Tuesday of each month. St. Elizabeth Place residents will be playing their card bingo game at 2:30 p.m. following their Resident Forum meeting on the first Monday of each month. Watch your calendars for details.

St. Elizabeth WII Game BowlingOn Friday March 23rd the Wii Game will be on the balcony of St. Elizabeth. Anyone interested in learning how to play the “bowling” game should be on the balcony at 1:30 p.m. and Sharon will help you. If we have a good turnout, this may become a regular event for St. Elizabeth. The more who play the game, the more fun it can be. So come on down and try your hand at Wii Bowling.
New Friends at Providence ParkWelcome! Irene BremApt. 1105
Irene was born in Wichita Falls, grew up in Tours, and moved to Lacy Lakeview in 1957. She loves to play bingo and “42”. You “42” players out there who need another player, don’t forget about Irene.
Irene has 2 children: a daughter who lives in Hewitt and her
son who will live in the home place in Lacy Lakeview. Welcome to Providence Park, Irene.
Ken Cooper and the First Baptist Woodway Church “42” players will be here on Tuesday the 13th of March to play “42” with any and all “42” players at The Village and St. Elizabeth Place. The games will be played on the St. Elizabeth Place balcony beginning at 6:30 p.m. So, grab a partner and join a table and the games are on. Sharon would like to see
‘42’ Players Say Game Ontwo residents and two First Baptist players to a table. There are eight tables up there and all of them could be filled. This could prove to be a very enjoyable evening so come on down……
Dr. Ritter will be here on the 7th of March beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the fitness center for his bi-monthly visit. Anyone wishing to have Dr. Ritter work on their feet should call:
1-866-950-3627 Ext. 7005 or Extension 7002 and schedule an appointment. Be sure to let them know you are with Providence Park when you call.

Shirley Mae Jones, an only child, was born March 31, 1934 in Charloroi, Pennsylvania. Named after one of the most popular stars of the time, Shirley Temple, she began singing almost as soon as she learned to talk. By age six, she was a member of the church choir.
In 1953, only one year after her high school graduation, Shirley moved to New York to try to break into show business. She had $100 to her name. She began her career as a replacement singer in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific with rave reviews. The rest, as the saying goes, is history.More musicals followed such as: Carousel in 1956 with Gordon MacRae, Elmer Gantry in 1961 with Burt Lancaster. Then came the films like: The Music Man, and The Courtship of Eddie’s Father. In 1970 Shirley accepted the role of David Cassidy’s mother in The Partridge Family, which became a worldwide success until its cancellation in 1974.
In 2004 Shirley starred on Broadway in 42nd Street with her son Patrick Cassidy. Shirley married Jack Cassidy in 1956, and they had 3 sons, with David, Jack’s son from a previous marriage completing their family.
In December 1976 David Cassidy perished in a fire in a New York apartment which evidently started when he fell asleep while smoking.
On November 13, 1977, Shirley married Marty Ingels. In 1990, they published an autobiography: Shirley and Marty: an Unlikely Love Story. They’re two very different types, yet their marriage has survived.
