7. DANGER. RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK.Do not permit any electrical appliances, suchas a light, telephone, radio, or television within5 feet (1.5 m) of the spa.1. WARNING -To reduce the risk of Injury, do

not permit children to use this product un-less they are closely supervised at all times. 8. WARNING. TO REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY:

2 DANGER. RISK OF ACCIDENTAL DROWN.ING. Extreme caution must be exercised to

prevent unauthorized access by children. Toavoid accidents, ensure that children cannotuse a hot tub or spa unless they are super-vised at all times.

A. The water in a spa should never exceed40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees F). Water

temperatures between 38 degrees C (100 F)and 40 degrees C (104 F) are considered safefor a healthy adult. Lower water temperaturesare recommended for extended use ( exceed-ing 10 minutes) and for young children.

3. A ground terminal (pressure wire connector)is provided on the control box inside the unitto permit connection of a minimum No.8AWG (8.4 mm2) solid Copper bonding con-ductor between this point and any metalequipment, metal water pipe, metal enclo-sures of electrical equipment, or conduitwithin five feet (1.5 m) of the unit.

B. Since excessive water temperatures havea high potential for causing fetal damage dur-ing the early months of pregnancy, pregnantor possibly pregnant women should limit spaor hot tub temperatures to 38 degrees C (100

F).

c. Before entering a spa, the user shouldmeasure the water temperature with an ac-curate thermometer, since the tolerances ofwater temperature regulating devices vary.

4. DANGER -To reduce the risk of injury topersons, DO NOT remove suction fittings. The suction fittings in this spa are sized tomatch the specific water flow created by thepump. Should the need arise to replace thesuction fittings or the pump, be sure that theflow rates are compatible. Never operate thespa If the suction fittings are broken or mlss-ing. Never replace a suction fitting with onerated less than the flow rate marked on theoriginal suction fitting.

D. The use of alcohol, drugs or medicationbefore or during spa use may lead to uncon-sciousness with the possibility of drowning.

E. Persons suffering from obesity or with a

medical history of heart disease, low or high

blood pressure, circulation system problems,

or diabetes should consult a physician before

using a spa.5, Install the spa so proper drainage is provided

for the compartment containing the electri-cal components.

F. Persons using medication should consult

a physician before using a spa since some

medication may induce drowsiness while

other medication may affact heart rata, blood

pressure and circulation.

DANGER. RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK.Install at least 5 feet (1.5 m) from all metalsurfaces. (A spa may be installed within 5feet of a metal surface if each metal surfaceis permanently connected by a minimum No.8 AWG (8.42mm2) solid Copper conductor

SPA MAINTENANCE

Your V1TA SPA is manufactured with the highest and 3. FILTER MAINTENANCEmost durable materials available. A spa care and Vita Spas are designed with the most efficientmaintenance program is recommended to increase ~ ' top loading filtration system in the industry. Fil-

your comfort, maintain the spa's reliability and pro- ter maintenance is the most critical factor intect your investment. keeping your spa water clean.

1. DRAINING YOUR SPADetergent residues from bathing suits as wellas soap film from your body may graduallyaccumulate in the water. Foam inhibitors willsuppress the foam but will not remove thesoap from the water. Eventually, the soapbuild-up in the water will concentrate enoughto leave an unclean feeling on the user's skin, cause sudsing and make the water impos-sible to clarify. Depending on the amount ofsoap input, the spa water should last betweentwo and three months.

To drain your spa:A. Tum the power off at the GFCI breaker.B. Attach a garden hose to the yellow hosebib (III. 1 No.9) located under the filter housinginside the equipment and route the outlet of thehose to an appropriate draining area. The spawill empty by gravity. Siphon or scoop out thebalance of the water.

To clean the filter:A. Remove the cartridge and spray it with agarden hose. It will be necessary to rotate thecartridge while spraying so as to thoroughlyremove the debris lodged between the filterpleats.B. After allowing to dry, inspect the cartridgefor calcium deposit (scaling) or an oil film. Rapidmineral build-up from hard water, or oil build-up from the use of oil-based water scent orbody oil may coat the filter cartridge. A filtercleaner to soak the cartridge is available fromyour VITA SPA Dealer and should be used aspart of your spa maintenance.C. Use a rag to remove any debris at the bot-tom of the filter housing. Replace the cartridge.D. We recommend the use of a spare filter. This way one can be soaking and cleaningwhile you continue to enjoy the use of your spa.

4. REDWOOD CABINET MAINTENANCEYour VITA SPA cabinet is made with a highquality redwood. It is factory stained andsealed. Depending on the location and expo-sure of the spa to the rain and sun, it is recom-mended to seal the redwood cabinet once ortwice a year with a wood sealant. Vita's spe-cially formulated Redwood sealer is availableat your VITA SPA dealer.

IMPORTANT: Spa water with a high sanitizerlevel may harm plants and grass.

If you are draining your spa for the winter, besure to fully drain water from the pipe by dis-connecting the two unions at the gate valves(III. 1 N. 6). Drain the water pump by removingthe pump plug. Then reinstall the valves andpump plug.C. Remove the filter and clean as required.D. Inspect the spa shell and clean as re-

quired.E. Refill the spa BEFORE restoring power to it.

2. WINTERIZING YOUR SPA ,Your VITA SPA has been designed and engi-neered for year-round use in any climate.

5. MARINE VINYL COVERYour cover is manufactured from a durable U. V.marine grade resistant material. Even so,monthly cleaning and periodic conditioning isrecommended to maintain its beauty. To cleanand condition the vinyl cover: (A. Lightly spray the cover with a garden hoseto rinse it and remove the debris.B. Using a large sponge or soft cloth, and us-ing a mild soap solution (1 teaspoondishwashing liquid with 2 gallons of water),scrub lightly in circular motion. Then rinse itthoroughly with plenty of water.C. Condition the vinyl after cleaning by ap-plying a thin film of vinyl conditioner such asArmorAIl. NOTE: To remove tree saps, uselighter fluid (not charcoal lighter but the kindused in cigarette lighters). Use sparingly andrinse with mild soap solution afterwards. Wipe

dry.

A. If the spa will not be used, drain it com-pletely following the instructions on "DRAININGTHE SPA."B. If you intend to use the spa during the win-ter, keep the spa wann and set the timer to bringthe pump on at night and a couple hours duringthe day. It is recommended to set the timer toFREEZE PROTECTION (See pg. 7) when thetemperature drops below 30 F. This will keepthe low-speed pump running 24 hours per dayand protect against potential freezing of pipes.Note that accidental freezing could result dueto prolonged power failures.

WATER QUALITY AND MAINTENANCE.GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR WATER QUALITY MAINTENANCE .

Maintaining water quality within specific limits willenhance your enjoyment and prolong the life ofthe spa. Safe, comfortable and clean spa water isa fairly simple task to achieve, but it does requireregular attention because of the numerous factorsthat can alter it. There is no one formula to be fol-lowed because of the variables, i.e. quality of thewater used to fill the spa, water temperature, userload, etc. For specific guidelines for water qualitymaintenance, consul! your VITA SPA dealer whocan assist you to develop a program based on yourspecific needs. Disregard for water maintenancewill result in poor soaking conditions, damage yourspa investment and possibly void your warranty.

IMPORTANT: NEVER USE CHLORINE TABLETS(TRICHLOR) IN YOUR SPA. This chemical canhave an extremely corrosive effect on certain ma-terials in the spa. Also. the use of liquids. chlorineor acid. are not recommended. Damage causedby use of these chemicals. or improper use of anychemical. is not covered under the spa warranty.

OPTIONAL VITAZONE WATERPURIFICATION SYSTEM

If you have elected to equip your spa with theoptional VITAZONE ozone water purificationsystem, you will find that your water stays freshand clean with significantly less usage ofchemical sanitizer and you will also be able togo longer between spa draining. Read andfollow the instructions included with yourVITAZONE ozone water purification system todetermine how to adjust your chemical usageand filter cycles.

Spa water maintenance consists of three separate, easily developed programs:

1

2.

3.

Sanitizing and maintaining a safe level ofsanitizer in the spa water.Balancing the pH and maintaining the recom-mended mineral content level. And achieving and maintaining water clarity.

SANITIZINGTo destroy bacteria and organic compoundsin the spa water, a sanitizer must be usedregularly. The use of a bromine floater is rec-ommended. By regulating the amount of tab-lets, the amount the floater is open and thelength of the filtration cycles, you can controlthe amount of bromine in your spa. A bro-mine residual of 2 to 3 ppm is generally con-sidered desirable. A two-part bromine systemor granular chlorine (dichlor) are also accept-able sanitizers.

pH CONTROLpH is a measure of acidity and alkalinity ofthe spa water. The recommended pH for spawater is 7.4 to 7.6 ppm. Below 7.0 (consid-ered neutral), the spa water is acidic and cancause damage to the heating system. Above7.8 the water is too alkaline and can result incloudy water and scale formation on the spashell, heater and cover.

9
