Regular attendance leads to enhanced achievement and learning progress. Let’s ensure all students attend school to reap the rewards of consistent participation and engagement. Unless your child is ill, it is expected that your child will be at school learning every day of the school year.
Term 3, Week 5
PBL EXPECTATION:
Be Committed
FOCUS BEHAVIOUR:
Be an active listener and participant.
Positive Behaviour For Learning (PBL)
PBL is a school-wide process that creates positive learning environments for all students, while also supporting student learning and wellbeing.
During week 5, students will be focussing on Being Committed. This means working towards being an active listener and participant by:
Listening carefully, by using eye contact and being still. Listening with a focus to understand, not a focus to reply. Wait until the speaker has completely finished before you ask
questions or make comments. Raising your hand and waiting before you speak. Getting involved, participating in activities and getting
involved.

WEEK 4 TERM 3: 7 August 2020 Page 2
Hello and welcome to my Principal’s Note for Week 4.
Throughout the past week, I have been privileged to witness a range of meaningful and productive learning experiences in every classroom. It is always great to see students and staff interacting to get the job done and to work towards improving student outcomes collaboratively. The clarity around learning intentions and success criteria in classrooms is really starting influence change regarding students’ understanding of what they are learning and what they need to do to achieve success. I encourage parents to start challenging their children around their learning by simply asking this question. “What feedback did you receive today?” This simple question will begin to promote conversations around how students can enhance their learning and development. You will need to persist.
Team, well done for your awesome work this week!
Parents – Please be respectful and follow the Stop, Drop and Go process when dropping off and picking up your children. Please drop off and collect your children at the gate. To avoid physical distancing issues in the School Administration area, please phone or email instead. Please do not gather in areas around the school such as carparks, at the school gate, around buildings or outside classrooms. In addition, please refrain from entering school buildings and classrooms. If your child is unwell, it is essential that you keep them at home. In accordance with Queensland Health Directions, parents or carers of any child showing signs of illness will be asked to collect them immediately from the school.
School Parade – only for students and staff. Physical distancing is still required for all adults. However, adults can join us on our Surat State School Facebook page for a live stream of parade on Monday morning, 10 August at 8.45am.
Thanks for another wonderful week at our awesome school!
Remember, “The Surat State School way is to commit to our learning, strive for excellence and succeed in all we do.”
Enjoy the weekend!
