School Newsletter Friday 9th March 2018 Spring Term 2018 Issue 07

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had some crazy weather! I am so sorry for the disruption caused - thank you for your patience and

understanding while we kept everyone safe. It is great to be back at school.

Congratulations to Georgia Kane, Year 6, the latest child to reach Richmond PRIDE. Looking through her

books and talking to her was an absolute delight and the award is thoroughly deserved.

Thank you to all of the parents who attended recent teacher consultations. It is always a pleasure to share the

super work that your children are completing and to tell you all about their amazing achievements. If you

haven’t had chance to meet with them yet please make sure you arrange a time, either through your child’s

class teacher or the office.

We had a super day on Thursday celebrating reading on ‘World Book Day’. It was a really fun day and great

to see the children dressed up. The children thoroughly enjoyed ‘Supertato’ and have produced some wonderful

follow-up work. Do have a look at the school blog to see what some of the classes got up to.

Many children also took part in anxiety workshops this week. The children found these really helpful in

giving them strategies for when they are worried about anything. At the end of the week, our duck eggs

arrived and we are looking forward to watching them hatch.

Looking forward to next week, we have Science Day on Tuesday and we are expecting some amazing visitors!

We will also be welcoming the Tour de Yorkshire trophy into school on Friday, which will be very exciting to

see. In other news, Year 6 will be taking part in a science morning at SFX and some children will be taking

part in a Lego competition at Richmond School. Finally, the postponed cross country competition will be held

on Tuesday ~ another busy week!

For day-to-day enquiries please contact the school office or speak to your child(ren)’s class teacher. As you

know, I work for our school for 50% of the week and share my time between school sites, so am not always

available. Do remember that our Associate Headteacher, Miss Hodges is now Head of School and can be con-

FORCE MEETING

EASTER DISCO

We will be celebrating Science Day on Tuesday 13th

March. Our theme for Science Day this year is

‘What a Wonderful World’ where the children will be

participating in a range of experiments and activities

that relate to the wonderful world that we live in.

We would like the children to dress up as Scientists

to make the day even more exciting. We would

suggest perhaps a long, white shirt and the children

could create a crazy scientist hairstyle.

We would like to invite parents to come and see the

lovely scientific learning going on from 2:45pm

onwards. We would suggest that if you have more

than one child in school to visit the younger child’s

classroom first and then make your way to the older

child’s classroom.

We look forward to seeing you in school and I am

really excited to see the children dressed up as

scientists.

Pancake Fractions

Year 1 have been learning

about fractions and we really

enjoyed using pancakes to

support our learning. We

started off with a whole

pancake and then cut it into

halves and quarters. The

children were amazing at

being able to record what

fraction of the pancake they

had.

On Friday evening 23rd February, the annual Swaledale football league kicked off at ML Sports Centre.

Trinity Academy were given a tough start with games against Bolton-on-Swale, Richmond Methodist, Brompton-on-Swale and Michael Sydall.

The team got off to a flying start, cruising to a 4-1 victory over Bolton-on-Swale. This was followed by an equally impressive win over Richmond Methodist, where Team Trinity Academy ran out 4-1 winners. This set up a tough game against Brompton-on-Swale, who defeated Trinity Academy in the local cluster final just months ago. A great start saw Jack smash a shot into the top corner to give the team a 1-0 lead. However, two quick fire goals turned the game on it’s head. Despite constant pressure towards the end, we couldn’t find that all important equalising goal.

However, our heads did not drop in the following game against Michael Sydall. Despite tired legs having played three consecutive games, excellent passing and finishing saw us end the evening with a 6-0 win.

I am very proud of the team’s performance, attitude and behaviour. The next round is in two weeks where I’m sure we will put in another excellent performance.

Well done Team Trinity Academy

Mr. McCulloch

(Apologies for no picture, I forgot the camera!).

A fine start for Team Trinity Academy

In recognition of the weather conditions and difficulty accessing your local booksellers, we are delighted to let you know that they are extending the book token redemption period until Saturday 31 March 2018.

Last Monday our KS2 Quiz Team went to Brompton-on-

Swale Primary School for the Area Heats of the

National Quiz Competition. After weeks of practising

during their lunch breaks they had the chance to show

off their fantastic general knowledge. The hall was set

up and each quiz team were allocated a table with an

individual keypad to use, there was also an audience of

adults in the hall. The atmosphere was both tense and

electric.

And so it began, at the end of the first round Team Trinity found themselves in 3rd place with

845 points (2nd place had 995 points and the leading team had 1075 points). The final round an-

swers were worth either 80 or 100 points. With the final question to go worth 100 points, we

were in 4th place, the team used their strategy and put all of their points on one answer. ‘How far

away from the Sun is Earth?’ 149.6 million kms. They did it they got 100 points and finished the

competition in 2nd place - what an achievement! What a strategy!

Fantastic teamwork from Team Trinity, we couldn’t be prouder.

Year 6 Make Parachutes Year 6 used their knowledge of air resistance to make parachutes. We selected our materials carefully to ensure for maximum air resistance. Tomorrow, we will test them by seeing if they provide enough resistance to stop an egg from breaking when dropped from a height.

Here are some pictures of our fun learning
