PROTOTYPESExploring ideas – Generating a range of

possible ideas and outcomes tackling my design problem.

Brief

■ For my brief I decided I’d create a poster/video (Yet to confirm), exploring the impact of the war for possibly;

■ A Charity fund for aid for current war victims.■ Graphics Firm exploring the impact on the war – in comparison to the

rise in technologyThe second possibly of creating a video, I could incorporate motion graphics into the piece.

Ideas about the brief

■ The idea for the brief initially came from my research into both my non-contemporary artists.

■ Paul Nash who was a War Artist & Hans Holbein who was Henry VIII’s Painter. Both had to communicate something, for different reasons, Nash had to communicate the War, in comparison to Holbein who had to portray leading figures.

■ They were both affected by some war, and both were communicating something through there work. The idea of communications has developed increasingly through the use of media and graphic work, to convey this. For this I wanted to create some kind of graphics or motion graphic video.

Prototype 1

First idea I did was exploring the effects on the war looking at the actual devastation caused by the war. I created a quick test poster, showing a juxtaposition between a city not directly effected by the war, compared to a city ‘in the thick of it’.

I then applied a layer mask, so it clips into this shape I created using inks, to represent the psychological affects the war may have on people. Atop of a ripped torn paper to represent the destruction.

As this is just a prototype I didn’t exactly feel like I carried across what I wanted to convey but generally suggested what I wanted displayed to carry across the idea – and to help generate more ideas possibly.

Prototype 2

The second design, I used mainly to experiment with font or in correct terms ‘emotive language’, combined with imagery.

This design exploring was again a poster design, trailing different effects to carry across a emotive response.

Prototype 3

■ The third idea, was to create a video combining the prototypes incorporating video as well as motion graphics.

■ The idea was to combine some historic video clips, with emotive language. Influences from aid videos, and historic documentaries. Possibility of combining all 3 prototypes into one, using elements from each.
