Is ABC Pty the right place for

me?

We offer challenges for new grads

ABC is the market leader in the

sector

They work you hard with menial tasks in

your first year

But they also provide great mentoring and opportunities

if you prove yourself.

Ok, they have a lot to offer, but I need to be prepared to start at

the bottom.

What do I wear on my first day?

We expect our staff to dress

“professionally”

First impressions are very

important

Ultimately, it’s about how good a job you

do.

It depends on where you work. Some managers are a

bit old-fashioned.

Better to over-dress until I get to know my boss. But

remember that it’s all about performance in the

long run.

How will I know what to do?

All staff have a performance agreement

Prioritise your work and action

accordingly.

Initially your manager will work with you. It’s in their interest for you to

be effective, too.

It’s up to you to keep yourself organised. A simple To Do list will

suffice for now.

I will need to ensure I know which jobs are most

important and deliver them on time.

Feedback

What works• I’m more confident after getting a range

of opinions• Allows us to validate across a range of

opinions• Can see how the different opinions can be

combined into a strategy right for me

What could be improved• Differing opinions – I can’t tell which is right.• I can’t tell who to trust - confusing• Some more recent grads may have become

company spokespersons• Inherent biases flavour opinions• Worried about School and Work giving their own

perspectives

Questions• How do we validate the opinions?• How do we know who the people are?

Suggestions• More people – better range of opinions• Some sort of reputation measure of the commenters• Make it virtual via social media app which contains its

own reputation measure. This would allow more people in the network, giving a better result.

• The Work rep could have downloadable templates which provide more info about their culture and processes.
