Step 2 While the organizer is folded, cut off the dotted line between pages 1 and 4 and the cover page and page 5. Unfold the organizer after cutting. Step 3 Fold the organizer in half hamburgerfold with the words showing. When turned on its back, your organizer should look like this. Step 5 Refold on the hotdogfold from Step 1. At this stage your organizer should fold into a book. Step 4 Fold the left and right sides to the middle. Your organizer should look like a fan. grandfather on a potato farm in Wyoming

• 10 year old boy • intelligent ~ asks questions in school • courageous • shows determination ~ won’t give up

even when others discourage him • takes care of his sick grandfather • works hard to help harvest and sell the

crops Searchlight • Willy’s dog • loyal • black with a white spot on her head • pulls Willy’s sled Grandfather • Willy’s grandfather • plays harmonica • likes to play jokes • doesn’t pay taxes • becomes depressed ~ won’t speak or

get out of bed when he realizes he will never have the money to pay the taxes

Antagonists Clifford Snyder • tax collector • dresses like a city slicker • small head and a thin droopy

mustache • yellow, tobacco-stained teeth • mean Stone Fox • cold-hearted • dresses in furs and leather with

moccasins that came all the way up to his knees

• big and strong • dark skin and hair • eyes sparkles in the sunlight • face is as hard as stone • hates White Men who took away his

people’s land

Townsfolk Doc Smith • lady with snow white hair • wears long black dress • tan skin • face is covered with wrinkles • close friend to Willy and Grandfather • comes to see Grandfather when he is

sick • wants to take Willy home with her to

live • says Grandfather has lost the will to

live Mr. Foster • president of the bank • smokes cigars • advises Willy to sell the farm • does not want to give Willy his college

fund to enter the race • helps Willy with the paper work when

entering the race • “He sat with his feet on his desk and

mopped sweat from his neck with a silk handkerchief.”

Lester • a kind store clerk who runs Lester's

General Store • skinny but strong man who always

wears a white apron and talks with saliva on his lips
