PROSPECTUS FOR ADMISSION TO MBBSCOURSE 2019-2020
1. INTRODUCTION:-
Travancore Medical College, Kollam is a Minority Educational Institution as declared
by the National Commission of Minority Educational Institutions, New Delhi vide its
Certificate dated 11.3.2014. It is established by ‘Quilon Medical Trust’, Kollam (Registration
No.221/2003) in the academic year 2009-2010. The College offers MBBS Course and Post
Graduate Medical MD/MS Courses, affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences.
The teaching hospital attached to the College is the ‘Travancore Medical College Hospital’
which is a well-known tertiary care hospital in Kerala State situated at ‘Travancore Medicity’
adjacent to Kollam City, the Cashew Capital of the World. The College campus lie by the
side of Kollam NH Bypass in Mylapore of Thazhuthala Village, Thattamala P.O., Kollam-691
020, 7kms from Kollam Railway Station, 8kms from Kollam KSRTC Bus Station and 60 kms
from Trivandrum International Airport. The Medical College & Hospital renders Medical
education to deserving poor students at concessional rates and treatment to deserving patients
at concessional rates irrespective of caste and creed. The Institution also conducts free
medical camps involving specialist doctors in various branches for the benefit of poor and
needy and provide free treatments,or at concessional rate, to patients in association with the
Muslim Association, Kollam and other similar charitable organizations.
1.a) OBJECTIVES:-
The objective of the Trust in establishing this Medical College in Kollam is:
1. To provide Medical education to aspiring and deserving students in Kollam District.
2. To establish a tertiary care super specialty hospital in Kollam with all modern
facilities.
3. To provide quality Medical Care at Affordable Cost to the public of Kollam and
surrounding districts.
4. To provide Training & Development of High Calibre Healthcare Professionals.
5. Overall development of the region.
6. To provide financial assistance to the poor and deserving in the matter of health and
education.
1.b) VISION:-
Travancore Medical College is envisioned to become the topmost Medical College
in South India within a decade, with State of the art infrastructure and excellent faculty
in a serene campus adjacent to the city limit of Kollam Corporation to attract people
from all over South India.
1. c) MISSION:-
The Medical College & Hospital to achieve the objects of the Trust renders Medical
education to deserving students at concessional rates and treatment at concessional rates
to poor patients irrespective of caste and creed. The Institution also conducts free
medical camps involving specialist doctors in various branches for the benefit of poor
and needy and provide free treatment, or at concessional rate, to deserving patients in

2 SCOPEOF THIS PROSPECTUS:-
a) This Prospectus contains the rules and regulations applicable for selection and
admission to 100 seats of MBBS Degree Course in this institution for the academic
year 2019-20 and the procedure adopted for such admission.
b) This Prospectus is subject to modification/addition/deletion as may be deemed
necessary by the management of Travancore Medical College, Kollam and further
orders, if any, passed by competent authorities and Courts of Law.

10. Reservation of Seats:-
a) This College has been declared as a Muslim Minority Educational
Institution by the National Commission for Minority Educational
Institutions, New Delhi under section 2(g) of the National
Commission for Minority Educational Institutions Act 2004 and under
Article 30 of the Constitution of India. Hence the 30 Management
seats are reserved for All India Muslim Applicants and 30 for Kerala
Muslim Applicants. In addition to the above 6 NRI seats are also
reserved for Muslim Candidates.
b) If sufficient Muslimapplicants having eligibility to be considered
against reserved seats as specified above are not available, applicants
from General Category under the same head will be considered.
11. Duration of the Course: - The duration of the MBBS Course is normally 4 ½
years to 5 years plus one year internship. Students undergoing internship are
eligible for stipend. The date of commencement of the course and the last date of
admission process will be as per the orders / time schedule fixed by the honorable
Supreme Court of India / Government of India/Medical Council of India.
12. Migration/Transfer:-Under no circumstance, Migration/transfer of student
undergoing the course shall be permitted.
13. ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY:
a. Nativity: Applicants must be Citizens of India/children or dependents of Non
Resident Indians / Indian overseas citizens.
b. Qualification:
1. As prescribed in the regulations of the Medical Council of India.
2. Must have qualified in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test –
2019 conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, New
Delhi.

3. Candidates who have passed their qualifying examination other than
from Kerala Higher Secondary Board, the CBSE or the ICSE shall
produce equivalency / eligibility certificate obtained from the Kerala
University of Health Sciences
c. Age: Shall complete the age of seventeen years on or before 31st December
2019. The upper age limit is 25 years as on 31st December of the year of the
examination. Further provided that this upper age limit shall be relaxed by a
period of 5 (five) years for the candidates of Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled
Tribes/Other Backward Classes.
14. FEES:-
a) Annual Tuition Fee for MBBS degree course is Rs 13,50,000/-(Rupees
Thirteen Lakhs and Fifty Thousand) for Government/Open and
Management Seats.
b) Annual Tuition Fee for NRI Candidates is Rs.23, 00,000/- (Rupees Twenty
Three Lakhs).
c) Tuition fee of the first year along with bank guarantee for tuition fee of
subsequent years shall be paid at the time of admission.
d) The following college fees shall also be paid by the students on admission:

15.How to apply:-

a) Application Forms: The Application form will be available with the
Commissioner of Entrance Examinations, Kerala as decided by the
Government of Kerala.
b) How to submit the applications: As that may be prescribed by the
Government of Kerala.
c) Last Date: As prescribed by the Government of Kerala / CEE / Courts
of Law.
d) Documents to be attached with the application: As prescribed by the
Government of Kerala / CEE .
16. MODE OF SELECTION:
a) The selection and allocation of seats will be made by the CEE subject to
any future orders that may be passed by the competent Courts. Admission
will be only on the basis of inter-se merit as per total marks / percentile
score/ General rank obtainedby the applicant in the National Eligibility
cum Entrance Test 2019conducted by the Central Board of Secondary
Education, New Delhi.
b) The merit lists will be published on the website of the Commissioner of
Entrance Examination, Kerala
c) No intimation will be issued to the candidates by the College.
17. ADMISSION:-
a) Schedule of dates for submitting application, selection, admission etc.:
As prescribed by the Government.
b) Notice of admission / selection: Notice of admission / selection will be
published by the Government or its agencies. Applicants shall take
admission in the College at the appointed time and date after remitting all
required fees for the first year including special fees and producing the
documents mentioned under Sub Clause (e).No intimation will be issued to
the candidates by the College.
c) Modification of terms in this Prospectus: Admission pursuant to this
prospectus is subject to addition/ deletion/ modification as may be deemed
necessary as per directions from the Medical Council of India, Government
of Kerala, the Admission Supervisory Committee,Fee Regulatory
Committee for Professional Colleges of Kerala, Hon. High Court of Kerala
and Supreme Court of India.

d) Furnishing of false information: Furnishing of false
information/particulars would result in cancellation of admission to the
course, if admitted. Moreover, the concerned will be proceeded against as
per relevant provisions of criminal law of the land.
e) Documents to be produced & Fee to be remitted at the time of
Admission : The following documents and fee are to be produced/remitted
at the time of admission:
i. SSLC/ 10th
standard Certificate.
ii. Plus Two or equivalent Certificate.
iii. Mark list of the qualifying Examination ( Plus Two or equivalent).
iv. Transfer Certificate (T.C) from the institution last attended.
v. Admit card of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test of 2019
conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.
vi. Mark list of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test of 2019
conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.
vii. Data sheet and Allocation Memo issued by the CEE.
viii. Certificate of good conduct from the institution last attended,
preferably issued within six months.
ix. Document/certificate from the authority concerned to establish the
eligibility for Muslim Reservation.
x. Community and Non-creamy layer/ income Certificate from
Tahsildar / Village Officer in case the candidate requires relaxation in
marks as per rules in force.
xi. Medical Fitness Certificate.
xii. Vaccination Certificate against Hepatitis / MMR / Chickenpox.
xiii. Equivalency /Eligibility certificate of the qualifying examination
obtained from Kerala University of Health Sciences by candidates
other than those who passed qualifying examination of Kerala Higher
Secondary Board, CBSE or ICSE.
xiv. Migration certificate if the candidate passed qualifying examination
conducted by Boards other than Kerala Higher Secondary Board.
xv. Bank Guarantee from a Nationalized Bank agreeing to pay the
amount of the tuition fee to be paid for the second, third, fourth and
fifth year of the course.
xvi. Bonds in Stamp papers worth Rs.200/- as mentioned in Annexure-I &
III.
xvii. Refundable Security Deposit for an amount equivalent to one year
tuition fee.

xviii. Two sets of self-attested photocopies of all the documents/certificates
listed above and Ten Passport size photographs of the candidate (one
of them shall be laminated on the facing side).
f) No applicant will be admitted to the course unless they produce all the
above documents including Bank Guarantee and required fees at the time
specified for his/her admission.
18. Cancellation of admission/Refund of Fees:-
a) Request for refund of fees will be applicable only to students who
leave the college on orbefore 25-08-2019 or as decided by the
Government or its agencies and Courts of Law. Thereafter, no request
will be entertained for refund of fees.
b) The refund will be made within thirty days of acceptance of request
made in time.
c) If any candidate discontinues the course or leaves the Institution in the
1st year or subsequent years, he/she is liable to pay the fees for the
remaining years.
d) In the event of (c) above Transfer Certificate and other certificates
will beissued only after payment of all dues including the fees for the
remainingyears.
e) In addition to the above, such students will have to pay hostel, mess
andother fees proportionately for the period they remained on the rolls
of thecollege. For the purpose of calculations of proportionate
recovery, part of amonth will be considered as a full month.
19. Method of training: After successful completion of 4 ½ years’ course, the
student has to undergo internship. This will be conducted on Compulsory
Rotation basis among various departments.
20. Execution of Bond as per Annexures:
(1) The applicants selected for the course will have to execute a bond on
Government Stamp Paper worth Rs.200/- at the time of joining the course
to declare the following:
a) That he/she will pay tuition fee and other fees in time and produce
bank guarantee for fee for subsequent years.
b) That he/she will pay balance tuition fee within the prescribed period
if the tuition fee provisionally fixed by the AFRC has been

subsequently revised by the FRC or Government or any competent
Court of Law at a higher level.
c) That he / she shall not discontinue the course after admission and in
case vacates the course / college before completion of the course,
shall be liable to pay total fee for the course as liquidated damages.
d) That if he is leaving the institution on getting a seat/admission
elsewhere on Government merit fees, he/she will not claim refund of
fees once paid under any circumstances.
e) That he/she will serve the Institution for a period of one yearas
Junior Resident/Tutor/Demonstrator at the rate of remuneration
fixed by the Government in Government Medical Colleges after
successful completion of the course and in case he/she fails to serve
the institution as mentioned above shall pay liquidated damages to
the College @ Rs.5, 00,000/- (Rupees Five Lakhs only) per year for
the period he/she fails to serve the institution.
(2). The Applicantsselectedfor thecourses will have to execute a bond
onGovernment Stamp Paper worth Rs.200/- at the time of joining the
course to declare that he/she will not indulge in any activities relating to
ragging.
(3). No Admission will be allowed to any candidate without executing bonds
as detailed above at the time of joining.
21. . Discipline:
a) All students shall stay in the hostels during the entire course of
study.
b) Students are expected to observe absolute discipline in their
conduct at the college, hospital and hostels.
c) Use of any kind of Motor vehicles and Mobile phones in the
college and hospital premises will not be allowed to students.
d) Rules and regulations as prescribed from time to time shall be
strictly followed.
e) Smoking and use of alcoholic drinks are totally prohibited.
f) The dress code of the College should be strictly obeyed.
Students should wear only formal dresses, shoes, overcoat and
ID card and avoid Jeans, Baggies, T-Shirts and the likes. They
are expected to dress up neatly and decently.

g) Ragging is strictly prohibited. Whoever commits, participates,
abets or propagates ragging within or outside the institution
will be suspended / expelled from the institution with
immediate effect and the matter will be reported to the
civil/police authorities.
22. General:-
a) No TA or other allowance will be paid for any purpose connected with
Selection and Admission.
b) Medium of instruction will be English.
c) Any other matters not specifically covered in this Prospectus shall be
decided by the management of this institution and the same shall be
final and binding on all concerned.

Year and producing herewith bank guarantee for the provisionally fixed fee for the second and

In case of revision of fee by the Fee Regulatory Committee to a higher level we also under take
to pay the difference in such enhancement of fee whenever the institution demands for the same.
We further agree that the Second among us shall not discontinue the course after admission, and
in case vacates the course / college before completion of the course, shall be liable to pay total
