KREEP - Lunar Prospector measurements
1 Before the mission of Lunar Prospector lunar satellite, it was commonly thought that these
KREEP materials had been formed in a widespread layer beneath the crust. However,
the measurements from the gamma ray spectrometer on board this satellite showed
that the KREEP-containing rocks are primarily concentrated underneath the Oceanus
Procellarum and the Mare Imbrium. This is a unique lunar geological province that is now
known as the Lunar terranes|Procellarum KREEP Terrane.

Prospector (passenger train)
1 The 'Prospector' was a passenger train operated by the Denver Rio Grande
Western railroad between Denver, Colorado|Denver, Colorado and Salt Lake City, Utah|
Salt Lake City, Utah. There were two incarnations of the train: a streamlined, diesel multiple unit train that operated
briefly from 1941 to 1942; and a locomotive-hauled train of conventional
passenger equipment that operated from 1945 until 1967.

Prospector (passenger train) - The 1941-1942 Prospector
1 For the inaugural trip in 1941, the railroad made stainless steel pass holders that were intended to be
distributed to passengers. The holder was engraved with a line drawing of
the train on the outside. On the inside were two cards—one with an embossed picture of a prospector and mule in gold, the other with a

Prospector (spacecraft)
1 Prospector arose as a result of President John F. Kennedy's desire to rehabilitate the tarnished image of
US spaceflight. In 1961, NASA proposed a series of unmanned
probes, including Prospector, to be managed by the Jet Propulsion
Laboratory.

Prospector (spacecraft)
1 Prospector was based on a study that had been performed by the Marshall Space Flight Center in June 1960, to determine what lunar missions could
be achieved using the Saturn I rocket.

Otago Gold Rush - Arrival of prospectors
1 A second major discovery in 1862, close to the modern town of
Cromwell, New Zealand|Cromwell, did nothing to dissuade new
hopefuls, and prospectors and miners staked claims from the
Shotover River in the west through to Naseby, New Zealand|Naseby in the
north.

Prospectors
1 Prospecting is physical labour, involving traversing (traditionally on foot or on
horseback), panning, sifting and outcrop investigation, looking for signs of mineralisation.
In some areas a prospector must also make claims, meaning they must erect posts with the
appropriate placards on all four corners of a desired land they wish to prospect and register
this claim before they may take samples. In other areas publicly held lands are open to prospecting without staking a mining claim.

Prospectors - Historical methods
1 Often, these shows were short-lived, exhausted and abandoned quite soon, requiring the
prospector to move onwards to the next and hopefully bigger and better show. Occasionally, though, the prospector would strike it rich and be joined by other prospectors and larger-scale
mining would take place. Although these are thought of as old prospecting methods, these
techniques are still used today but usually coupled with more advanced techniques such as
geophysical magnetic or gravity surveys.

Prospectors - Historical methods
1 In most countries in the 19th and early 20th century, it was very unlikely that a
prospector would retire rich even if he was the one who found the greatest of lodes. For
instance Paddy Hannan|Patrick (Paddy) Hannan, who discovered the Golden Mile,
Kalgoorlie, died without receiving anywhere near a fraction of the value of the gold contained in the lodes. The same story
repeated at Bendigo, Ballarat, Klondike and California.

Prospectors - The gold rushes
1 In the United States and Canada prospectors were lured by the
promise of gold, silver, and other precious metals. They traveled
across the mountains of the American West, carrying picks,
shovels and Placer mining|gold pans. The majority of early prospectors had no training and relied mainly on luck
to discover deposits.https://store.theartofservice.com/the-prospector-toolkit.html
Prospectors - The gold rushes
1 Other gold rushes occurred in Papua New Guinea, Australia at least four
times, and in South Africa and South America. In all cases, the gold rush was sparked by idle prospecting for gold and minerals which, when the
prospector was successful, generated 'gold fever' and saw a wave of
prospectors comb the countryside.

Prospectors - Modern prospecting
1 Modern prospectors today rely on training, the study of geology, and prospecting
technology.
https://store.theartofservice.com/the-prospector-toolkit.html
Prospectors - Modern prospecting
1 Knowledge of previous prospecting in an area helps in determining location
of new prospective areas. Prospecting includes geological
mapping, rock assay analysis, and sometimes the intuition of the
prospector.
https://store.theartofservice.com/the-prospector-toolkit.html
Prospectors - Metal detecting
1 Metal detectors are invaluable for gold prospectors, as they are quite effective at detecting gold nuggets within the soil down to perhaps 3
feet, depending on the acuity of the operator's hearing and skill.
