Requirement of different storageDepending upon the vapor pressure of the

liquid at atmospheric temp different types of storage is required.

If vapor pr is >1kg/cm² liquid is to be stored in sphere or bullet.(Operating pressure).

If 0.5 kg/cm² < vapor pr <1kg/cm² liquid is to be stored in doom roof tank.

If vapor pr <0.5 kg/cm² liquid is to be stored in atmospheric tank.

PURPOSE AND USE

LDPE USERS OF LIQUID C3H6:It has a high coefficient of expansion in its liquid phase, the bullets are never completely filled with liquid (tanks are filled to approximately 85% of their capacity.

At room temperature and atmospheric pressure, propylene is a gas. As pressure increases, boiling point increases.

Purpose: To provide an Overall design basis package which outlines the minimum requirements for storage.

As a modifier and injected into the inlet to the Secondary compressor (C-150).

As a solvent for the peroxide initiator for Tubular reactor process. As a propylene refrigeration systems and received de-inventoried

liquid propylene from the refrigeration systems.

PROCESS DESCRIPTION1. At an ambient flowing temp. of 20°c, propylene has a vapor pressure of about

10.1 barg,. Ambient conditions can vary from 0°c to 50°c, corresponding to vapor pressures from 5.8 to 20.6 barg, respectively.

2. Propylene storage tank receives makeup liquid C3H6 from pipeline supply.

Pressure must be maintained higher than C3H6 vapor pressure to ensure liquid

flow.

3. C3H6 from the pipeline passes through a double block and bleed arrangement

at battery limits and passes through metering system followed by filter.

4. C3H6 enters the top of the propylene storage drum.

5. From the C3H6 storage Drum, propylene pump pumps propylene to

downstream EVA process users: as a modifier to modifiers pump (P-200A/B), as solvent to the initiator Mix Drum (D-301).

6. The propylene storage drum also serves to provide de-inventorying capacity for the ethylene storage propylene refrigeration units. The refrigeration units will be de-inventoried by flowing condensed propylene to propylene storage drum. To recharge the Refrigeration units, vapor propylene will be sent from the propylene storage drum to the suction-side of the compressor.

INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL

Propylene flow meter (Coriolis) for high accuracy.

Storage drum high density material, safety instrument system

(sis).

Transfer pump have local start/stop controls as well as remote

start/stop via plant DCS.

Transfer pump will be tripped at low-low level of drum.

Storage system provided Fire & Gas detection and fire protection

system.

Start Early-Drive slowly-Reach safely
