The main supply of mineral Granite will be in Barmer, Jalore, Jodhpur and nearby area

and it will be utilized as construction material in buildings.

2.2 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE NATURE OF PROJECT

This is a proposed Granite mining project. As per EIA Notification dated 14th

Sep, 2006

and as amended till date, the project falls under, Category “B2”. It has been proposed to

excavate approximately 57232 MTPA (Marketable) of Granite from this ML No. 316/05

by open - cast mechanized method. The lease area is 3.0 ha. Total mineable reserves are

515655 MT. The expected life of mine will be 10.47 years. There will be generation of OB

/ waste during the five year of plan period and it will be 214445.5cum. The mineral

Granite will be transported by hired trucks.

At the end of lease period, the total excavated area will be 3.0 ha. Out of this, 1.3005 ha.

will be backfilled and remaining area will be used as a water reservoir. Water reservoir

will ultimately help in recharging the water table and also help in cultivation and irrigation

purpose for nearby area. Water requirement of 2.46 KLD for the proposed project activity

will be met by water tankers supply from nearby village source. The depth of water table is

70 m (Pre-Monsoon) to 60 m (Post-Monsoon) below the general ground level. Thus, water

table will not encounter during working of the mine.

2.3 NEED FOR THE PROJECT & ITS IMPORTANCE TO THE COUNTRY/ REGION

Granite can be used for a number of things like and building monuments. Granite is

chiefly used as building materials, construction purpose, slab & tiles manufacturing.

Being a decorative stone, the chief use of is in flooring and wall tiles. . It is used to make

attractive pattern with pleasant color. The stone is naturally durable and water resistant

with antibacterial and stain proof characteristics. Granite is also scratch and heat resistant.

Granite used as an exterior cladding and pavement material, and its inherent strength,

abrasion resistance and superior weathering durability are likely to keep it one of the

preeminent material selections. Thus, due to these requirements, mining of Granite is

necessary and it is an important mineral for the nation to mine. Hence, to fulfill the need

of the construction industry, this project of Granite mining is necessary & important for

the nation.

About 20 local people will be employed for the proposed mining activity which will create

3.4.1 REGIONAL GEOLOGY

Geologically, Barmer district is occupied by the Bhilwara and Delhi Super groups, which

have been further divided into several groups and formations. The rock of the area

belonging to eastern part to Barmer district of southwest Rajasthan comprises

predominatly of granites. Rhyolites with patches of agglomerate, basalt, andesite,

porphyries and dolerites are also preent. All these rocks constitute only 25% to 30%

of the total area studied while the remaining parts are covered by a thich blanket of

sand and alluvium. Some metasedimentry rocks belonging to Delhi supergroup

occur only as restricted patches within granites and rhyolites. The generalized

geological succession of the area based on surface of the area based on surface data

is given below:

Recent to Sub-recent - Blown sand and alluvium

3.4.2 LOCAL GEOLOGY:-

The granites of this area are broadly of three categories depending upon their

mineral constituents and appearance. The biotite bearing grayish white granite

belongs to Erinpura granite. These granites are intrusive within middle protrerozoic

Delhi Super group of rocks and are tonalitic to alkalifedspar syenitic in composition.

Erinpura granites are spread over a large part of the area in Sirohi district and

occurring in the form of isolated outcrops, low-lying hummocks and ground level

exposures. The second category comprises pink coloured graniles consisting of

biotite and/or hornblende. This is called Jalore granite and it covers the major part

of the Jalore district in the form of small plutons (as in Jalor town, Bibalsar and

Jaswantpura) and isolated inselbergs (as in Deon, Muri etc.) Jalore granites have

intruded within Erinpura granites and are younger in age. The third category

granite of the this study area is comprises aegirine-augite and reibibeckite bearing

green coloured, granites. These are alkali granties and known as Siwana granite.

Siwana granite is mostly exposed in eastern part of Barmer district. Both Jalore and

Siwana granites are part of Malani Igneous Suite of rocks which are late proterozoic

in age. The basalt, andesite and granite porphyries a long with some aplitic veins are

the other constituents of Malani Igneous Suite. The extrusive phase of Malani is

represented by rhyolite and agglomerates. Malani rocks are intrusive within

Erinpuras. Finally some dolerite dykes have intruded within the Erinpura as well as

in jalore and Siwana granites.

The area is generally covered with loamy sand, sandy loam & silt loam in texture. The

soil derived mostly from the weathering of igneous and accumulation of arid brown

sand concealing the possible alluvium desert soil

4.7 CLIMATE

The district experiences arid type of climate. Mean annual rainfall (1971-2005) of the

district is 281.8 mm whereas normal rainfall (1901-1971) is lower than average

rainfall and placed at 277.5 mm. Almost 90% of the total annual rainfall is received

during the southwest monsoon, which enters the district in the first week of July and

withdraws in the mid of September. As the district lies in the desert area, it faces

extremes of heat in summer and cold in winter. Both day and night temperatures

increase gradually and reach their maximum values in May and June. The temperature

varies from 48 degree in summer to 2 degree in winter. Atmosphere is generally dry
