ABOUT SAPOAEducational initiatives and programmes are paramount for any sector that requires progressive innovation on a continuous basis. The commercial property sector is one such industry and its professionals require platforms for skills development to stay on par with global peers as they continue in the quest to create monuments.
As the leading property development body in South Africa, the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) plays a pivotal role in ensuring that these development programmes are accessible to its members and the sector at large. Annually, SAPOA provides the sector with several high quality educational and training programmes in conjunction with the country’s leading institutions.
One such programme is the SAPOA Property Development Programme (PDP) which is offered in association with the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB). This prestigious programme is one of SAPOA’s flagship programmes and it taps into the talent and capabilities of property professionals in the country as well as across borders. The intensive two week long programme has developed extensively in its almost four decades of existence. It aims to equip delegates with in-depth understanding of various aspects of property development including architecture, cost management and feasibility studies, law, investment, marketing and property management.
Over the years the programme has become a yardstick for delegates to measure their performance against other property professionals, engage in robust debates on sectoral issues as well as form networks and relationships that go beyond the lecture rooms.
The programme has not only achieved monumental success, it has helped develop some of the sector’s most highly skilled and influential leaders. SAPOA is immensely proud of the programme’s success and its impacts on delegates as well as the institutions they represent.
SAPOA recognises the role that PDP plays in the advancement of the sector and its contribution towards meeting the vision of various individual institutions. We always endeavour to provide excellent educational programmes that are up-to-date and of a global standard. PDP is no different and SAPOA’s PDP Committee is committed to ensuring that the programme content and delivery standard of excellence remains unmatched.

A B O U T U C T G S BInspiring. Intelligent. Curious. Innovative. Ethical. Professional. Creating Leaders since 1964!
Complexity, uncertainty, relentless change; these global touchstones of the times challenge traditional thinking about how business operates, economies grow, and societies develop – and the new world needs new ways to deal with them.UCT Graduate School of Business is the home to the only full-time African MBA ranked in the top 100 by the prestigious Financial Times and as just one of 59 schools world-wide to be "triple-crowned" (schools which are accredited by AMBA, EQUIS and the AACSB), the school is among the best in the world.
We take a four-pronged approach to excellence that combines academic rigour, societal relevance, innovation in teaching and thought leadership to transform our students - taking them from a place of knowing to doing to being. GSB is committed to making business better. With our roots in Africa, our focus is on emerging market business and our teaching and research is geared towards driving development and understanding in this context, which is characterized by high degrees of uncertainty, complexity and inequality.
Our internationally acclaimed Executive Education department, collaborates closely with our corporate clients to customise cutting edge leadership and management courses that incorporate the four prolonged values approach of the school and equips leaders to make a positive difference in business and in society.
2016 once again brings you the very popular and prestigious Property Development Programme that has been running since 1969. W E LC O M EIt is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the 2016 Property Development Programme (“PDP”).
This prestigious and popular programme is presented jointly by the South African Property Owners Association (“SAPOA”) and The Graduate School of Business (“GSB”) of the University of Cape Town (“UCT”). We consider PDP to be the intensive and premier executive programme designed for property professionals on the continent. Its aim is to equip delegates with an in-depth understanding of the various aspects of property development including Architecture, Cost Management and Feasibility Studies, Environmental Sustainability, Law, Investment, Marketing and Property Management.
The PDP experience has typically been enriched by delegates from as far as India, Egypt, Mauritius and SADC Countries, and this year is no exception. Industry leaders are sourced far and wide to present lectures in their fields of expertise. It is this infusion of the diversity of minds in various disciplines that makes the PDP a value-added experience for each delegate. This year Ms Terry Wills (CEO of the World Green Building Council) is to grace us with a lecture that will expose our delegates to the cutting-edge of worldwide sustainability experience.
Over these two weeks you will enjoy well prepared presentations which will provide you with new perspectives within our industry. Be prepared to learn, unlearn and re-learn as you engage with this range of professionals; for it is by opening our minds that the real edification occurs.
With another fresh new programme this year, the SAPOA PDP Committee and the GSB invite you to take your place as a member of “The PDP Class of 2016”.
I encourage you to grasp this extraordinary opportunity in the next two weeks to gain new knowledge, and also to forge long-lasting relationships with new-found co-professionals. We look forward to taking our synergy and learning from one another, to a whole new level this year; so making this PDP both successful and a one-of-a-kind and memorable experience.
