This document provides instructions for installing and configuring the ProofMate (ProofReady) Plug-in for Windows/XP and Macintosh. The installation instructions provide separate sections for Windows/XP and Macintosh, due to the difference in screens. The rest of this document provides Windows/XP screens only. However, the instructions and screens remain the same for Macintosh.

The RIP must be installed before you can install the plugin. See your RIP Getting Started Guide for RIP installation instructions.

I ns ta l l a t i on for Wi ndows / XP Step 1 Insert the RIP CD into the CD ROM drive of your computer. (If your system is set to run

an autorun file, steps 2 through 4 will automatically be performed.

Step 2 Double click on < my computer > on the desktop.

Step 3 Double click on the < RIP > CD icon.

Step 4 Double click on, or launch, the Setup.exe program.

•The ECRM WorkMates splash screen displays.

Step 5 Click on the Optional WorkMates Modules button in the lower right corner of the screen.

•The Optional Plugins setup screen displays.

Step 6 Click the Next button.

•The Select Components dialog window opens.

Step 7 Click on the checkbox (depends on which proofer you will attach) and then click Next.

Note: This manual assumes the installation of an HP 3000CP proofer. If you are installing a different proofer, use the information that follows as a guide for installing your proofer. The procedure for installing your proofer will be similar to the one that follows, although the screens that you see and the

order in which they appear may be somewhat different than shown below. Accordingly, before you begin installing your proofer, read through the entire procedure that follows to familiarize yourself with the different kinds of parameters you will be setting when you install your proofer. Then, use information that follows to help you set those parameters for your proofer.

•The Select HP Proofer screen displays.

Step 8 Check the appropriate box, and then click Next.

•A setup screen opens and tracks the progress of the installation of the module(s) you selected.



•The Installation Complete window displays.

Step 9 If you have no other modules to install, select Yes and then click Finish to restart the computer. Otherwise, select No and then click Finish.

•The ECRM RIP splash screen displays.

Step 10 Make another selection from the list in the right side of the screen to install the next components or module you want to install.

Step 11 After you finish installing all of your modules, continue to “Configuring the RIP” on page 11.

Step 1 Install the Installation CD ROM and double-click the ECRM RIP icon.

• The CD ROM contents are displayed.

Step 2 Double click on the icon labeled Mac OS X RIP Installer.

• The ECRM RIP splash screen appears.

Step 3 Double click on the Install WorkMates icon.

Step 4 The system automatically starts loading installer resources. Related messages appear as the resources are loaded.



•After the installer resources have been loaded, the ECRM RIP splash screen appears.

Step 5 Click the OK button at the bottom of the splash screen.

• The RIP Installer screen appears.

Step 6 In the window on the left, select the series for your imagesetter (for example, Mako Series).

Step 7 Click on the Options tab at top of the screen.

• The window on the left changes to show all available options.

Step 8 Select the appropriate ProofReady Plugin (for example, ProofReady for HP).

• The window at the right displays the available devices for the option.



Step 9 Click open the “Find RIP or option for” list that is at the bottom of the screen.

• The output device list opens.

Step 10 Select your specific output device (for example, HP DesignJet 3000 Series).

Step 11 Click the Install button.

• An option-specific “Install here” window appears.

Step 12 Select the RIP folder as the storage location for the option, and then click the Install button.

Note: This and all other RIP options must be stored in the same folder as the RIP.



• The system installs the option. A dynamic status bar appears and tracks the progress of the installation.

• When the installation is complete, the following message appears.

Step 13 Click “Later”.

• The Installer screen reappears.

Step 14 If you need to install another option, repeat this procedure. Otherwise, click the Quit button to close the Install window.

Now that you have installed the ProofReady Plug-in, the next step is to configure the RIP so that it recognizes your proofer.

Step 1 Select Start > Programs > ECRM WorkMates> ECRM RIPMate

Step 2 Click on ECRM RIP in the top menu, and click on Configure RIP from the drop down menu.



•The Configure RIP window displays.

Step 3 Click on the Extras button.

•The Configure RIP Extras window displays.

Step 4 Use the scroll bar to choose the proofer to add (e.g., HP DesignJet 3000 Series) and click on the ADD button.

•The Enable Feature window displays.

Step 5 Enter the password provided. (Typically, this is a 7-digit number)

Step 6 Click OK.

•The Configure RIP Extras window displays, with Yes applied to the plugin.

Step 7 Click OK. The plug-in is now available for use.

Step 8 Repeat steps 3 through 5 to add the HDS and the HIPP plug-ins.

Step 9 Click OK twice to return to the main menu.

Now that you have installed the plug-in for your proofer, the next step is to create a page setup for the proofer. For detailed information read the Epson ProofReady.pdf or the HP ProofReady.pdf in the Documentation folder of the ECRM RIP CD.

Step 1 Launch the RIP.

•The RIP windows display.

Step 2 Click on ECRM RIP from the main menu and select Page Setup Manager.

•The Page Setup Manager window displays.

Step 3 Click on the New button.

•The New Page Setup dialog box displays.

For instructional purposes the New Page Setup dialog box is divided into eight sections. The instructions in this part of the document is divided into eight corresponding sections. Each is labeled with its corresponding number in the New Page Setup dialog box.

Step 1 Click on the Device down arrow, and choose the proofer from the list provided.

Step 2 Click on the Configure device button in the new page setup dialog box.

•The Configure Device dialog box displays.

Step 3 Choose the output method you are using by clicking on the down arrow in the output method box.

Step 4 If you choose Network, the file output remains the default values, fill in the IP address with the IP address of your device, and set the Port Number to 9100 for Jet Direct single printer or 515 for 10/100 Base-T type B Ethernet card.

Step 5 If you choose File, choose the folder you want to save the file in, and the network output settings remain unchanged.

Step 6 If you choose a Printer Port, file output network output remain unchanged.

•The configure device output method choices displays.

Step 7 The Output section of the Configure Device dialog box, is determined by the type of device you have.

I f you se l ec t an HP dev ic e Step 1 Quality is printer specific. You can choose Fast, Normal, Best or Printer Default (the

printer’s setting)

Step 2 Compression is usually TIFF (Packbits) Encoding.

Step 3 If the paper supply is a roll check the cut paper at end of each page.

I f you s e l ec t an Epson dev i ce Step 1 Quality is set to Enhanced Microweave.

Step 2 Compression Mode is run length printer specific.

Step 3 The paper size is what is loaded in the printer.



Step 4 The Paper Bin Selection is printer specific.

Step 5 Click OK.

Step 1 Click on the down arrow in the Style information field.

Step 2 For 6-color Epson devices select Photo Ink.

•The screen displays.

Step 3 For 4-color Epson and HP devices select CMYK composite.

Step 4 Select none in the color information field.

Step 5 Click on the Color Options button.

•The Color Options dialog box displays.

Step 6 Click OK.

Step 1 Click on the down arrow in the Calibration information field and select the paper and resolution appropriate for your proofer.

•If you have an HP proofer selected, the HP paper and resolution choices display.

•If you have an Epson proofer selected, the Epson paper and resolution choices display.

Step 2 Click on the Tone Curves information field, and select None.

Step 1 Click on the Page layout button.

•The page layout dialog box displays.

Step 2 Check the Center page on media width checkbox.

Step 3 (Optional) Check the Center Page on Media Length checkbox.

Step 4 Click on the down arrow in the Page size information field and select the appropriate page size or other.

•If other is selected enter page width.

•If other is selected enter page height (sheet). (You can enter any number for a roll selection).

Step 5 Click OK.

Step 1 Click on the down arrow in the Vertical information field, and select the value that is appropriate for selected proofing device. (This should match your calibration selection for resolution.)

Step 2 Click on the down arrow in the Horizontal information field, and select the value that is appropriate for selected proofing device.

Step 3 Check Override resolution in job checkbox.

Step 1 Click on the down arrow in the Optimization information field, and select None.

Step 2 Do not check Enable Feature.

Step 2 Type a name in the information field, and click on the Save button.

•The Page Setup Manager window displays with the new page setup listed. Your page set up is now saved and available for use with your proofer.

Step 3 Click on the OK button.

Separations information is saved together with screening information in a separations style, which can be used in several page setups. You can keep a number of separations styles that you use regularly, for example to define different screening options.

Step 1 From the RIP window Click on Color, then click on separations manager.

•The separations manager window displays.

Step 2 Click on the down arrow in the Device information field, and select a proofing device.

•The New Style window for your proofer displays.



Step 4 Type in an appropriate name in the Style name information field.

Step 5 Click on the down arrow in the Color space information field and select CMYK for 4- color proofers. Select PhotoInk for 6-color proofers.

Step 6 Click on the down arrow in the Output format information field, and select Composite for CMYK. (HP)

Step 7 Click on the down arrow in the Output format information field, and select Composite CMYK Calibration for PhotoInk. (Epson).

Step 8 Click on the Create button.

•The Edit Style window displays.

Step 9 All colors should be Yes in the Print column and Normal in the Ink column.

Step 10 Check Override separations in job.

Step 11 Check Use level 1 spot colors.

Step 12 Click on the down arrow in the Dot shape information field. The list will see depends on your proofer. Select the appropriate shape.

Note: HDS screening is a stochastic screening and most of the built in profiles are for thisscreening.

Step 13 Check Override dot shape in job.

Step 14 Check Generate extra gray levels.

Step 15 Click on the down arrow in the Limit number of distinct gray levels, and select 1024.

Step 16 Click on the OK button. The Separations Manager window appears.


Step 18 Go to the ECRM RIP window and click on ECRM RIP, then page setup manager.



•The Page Setup Manager window displays.

Step 19 Click on the page setup you created in the Page Setup section of this document.

Step 20 Click on the Edit button.

•The Edit Page Setup window displays.

Step 21 Click on the Style information field, and click on the style you just created in the separations manager.

Step 22 Click on the OK button in the Edit Page Setup window.

•The page setup manager displays with the new style you created.

Using Tone Curves Step 1 In the ECRM RIP window click on Output, then click on Calibration Manager.



•The Calibration (Dot Gain) Manager window displays.

Step 2 Click on the Device down arrow and select Tone Curves from the pull down menu.


•The Edit uncalibrated target of Tone Curves window displays.

Step 4 Click on the Name information field and type a name.

Step 5 Click on the Measurement as information field and select%Dot.

Step 6 Click on the Channel information field, and select the color you want to correct.

For Example, if you decide to minus the color in the Cyan midtones because the proof looks to have a cyan cast, proceed as follows:

• Push the Clear button

• Enter 45% at the 50% location

• Click the Extrapolate button. You will see a new, system-generated curve.

• If you have determined other values as being more appropriate than the system generated values, manually enter your values in the appropriate boxes.

Step 7 Click on the OK button. (If you only changed one or two colors, and then click the OK button, a message warning you that you did not view the other colors displays. Yes is the correct response. If you worked on all four colors, this warning does not display.



•The Dot Gain Manager window display and your new settings are listed.

To Apply Tone Curves to the Page Se tup Step 1 From the ECRM RIP window click on ECRM RIP, the page setup.

•The page Setup Manager window displays.

Step 2 Highlight the page setup you created in the previous section.

Step 3 Click on the Edit button.

Step 4 Click on the Calibration information field in the Calibration and Dot Gain section, and select Tone Curves from the pull down menu.

•The Color Setup Manager window displays.

Step 2 Click on the Device information field and select the proofing device in the pull down menu.

Step 3 In the Color Space information field, click on the down arrow and select CMYK.


•The Create Color Setup window displays.

Step 5 Click on the Create button in the ICC - Harlequin ICC Profile Processor section.

•The New Color Setup window displays.



Step 6 Click on the down arrow in the CMYK Input Profile, and select the item you wish to match.

Step 7 Click on the down arrow in the RGB Output Profile information field, and select none.

Step 8 Click on the ICC Output information field, and select the proofing paper and resolution you used in the Page Setup/Calibration and Dot Gain/Calibration section.

Step 9 Click on ICC Rendering Intents information field and click on ICC Perceptual (if available).

Step 10 If your input job was on a creamy yellowish paper, but the proof is on a bright white paper check the Fill background with paper color of input job. The creamy color will be simulated on the proof.

Step 11 Check 100% process black.

Step 12 In the color adjustment information field select Type B.

Step 13 Check Override color management in job.

Step 14 Click on the Save as button.

•The Save Setup window displays.

Step 15 Type in a name and click the Save button. The Color Setup Manager window opens and your new name is listed.

Step 16 Click OK.

Step 17 If you wish to adjust the color further you can use the Tone Curves method described in that section.



Cu stom ICC Pr of i l e sThe profiles must be accessible to your computer before starting this procedure. Installing an ICC profile to enable the target device to match the proof, is described in the following steps.

Step 1 From the ECRM RIP Window click on Color, then select Install ICC Profile.The Install

ICC Profile window displays.

Step 2 Scroll to the profile and select.

•The Install ICC profile window displays.

Step 3 Check Input Profiles.

Step 4 Click the Install button.

Step 1 From the ECRM RIP window, click on Color and then select Install ICC Profile.


Step 2 Scroll to the profile and select.


Step 3 Check Device Profile.

Step 4 Click on the down arrow in the For Device information field, and select device.



Step 5 Click on the Linear Calibration From, information field and in the pull down menu select the paper and resolution you used in Calibration in the Page Setup.

Step 6 Check Resample on Install.

Step 7 Click on the Install button.

Step 8 From the ECRM RIP window click on Color, then select Color Setup Manager.

•The Color Setup Manager displays.

Step 9 Click on the down arrow in the Device information field, and select the proofing device from the pull down menu.

Step 10 Click on the down arrow in the Color Space information field and select CMYK.


•The Create Color Setup window displays.

Step 12 Click the Create button in the ICC-Harlequin ICC Profile Processor section of the window.



•The New Color Setup window displays.

Step 13 Click on the down arrow in the CMYK Input Profile information field, and select the item you targeted to match.

Step 14 Click on the down arrow in the RGB Input Profile information field and select none.

Step 15 Click on the down arrow in the ICC Output Profile information filed and select the ICC profile of the proofer you installed.

Step 16 Click on the down arrow in the ICC Rendering Intents and select Perceptual (default).

Step 17 Check Preserve 100% process black.

Step 18 Click on the down arrow in the Color adjustments information field and select Type B.

Step 19 Check Override color management in job.

Step 20 Click the Save As button.

•The Save As window displays.

Step 21 Type in a name and click the Save button.



•The Color Setup Manager window displays with the new ICC profile.

Step 22 From the ECRM RIP window click on ECRM RIP and select Page Setup Manager.

•The Page Setup Manger window displays.

Step 23 Highlight the page setup created initially and click on the Edit button.

Step 24 Click on the down arrow in the Color information field and select the color profile you created above.

Step 25 Click on the down arrow in the Calibration information field and select None. (This adjusts the system to work with your profile.)


Step 27 If you wish to adjust the color further you can use the Tone Curves method described earlier.
