This document provides instructions for installing and configuring the ProofMate (ProofReady) Plug-in for Windows/XP and Macintosh. The installation instructions provide separate sections for Windows/XP and Macintosh, due to the difference in screens. The rest of this document provides Windows/XP screens only. However, the instructions and screens remain the same for Macintosh.

The RIP must be installed before you can install the plugin. See your RIP Getting Started Guide for RIP installation instructions.

I ns ta l l a t i on for Wi ndows / XP Step 1 Insert the RIP CD into the CD ROM drive of your computer. (If your system is set to run

an autorun file, steps 2 through 4 will automatically be performed.

Step 2 Double click on < my computer > on the desktop.

Step 3 Double click on the < RIP > CD icon.

Step 4 Double click on, or launch, the Setup.exe program.

•The ECRM WorkMates splash screen displays.

Step 5 Click on the Optional WorkMates Modules button in the lower right corner of the screen.

•The Optional Plugins setup screen displays.

Step 6 Click the Next button.

•The Select Components dialog window opens.

Step 7 Click on the checkbox (depends on which proofer you will attach) and then click Next.

Note: This manual assumes the installation of an HP 3000CP proofer. If you are installing a different proofer, use the information that follows as a guide for installing your proofer. The procedure for installing your proofer will be similar to the one that follows, although the screens that you see and the

order in which they appear may be somewhat different than shown below. Accordingly, before you begin installing your proofer, read through the entire procedure that follows to familiarize yourself with the different kinds of parameters you will be setting when you install your proofer. Then, use information that follows to help you set those parameters for your proofer.

•The Select HP Proofer screen displays.

Step 8 Check the appropriate box, and then click Next.

•A setup screen opens and tracks the progress of the installation of the module(s) you selected.

•The Installation Complete window displays.

Step 9 If you have no other modules to install, select Yes and then click Finish to restart the computer. Otherwise, select No and then click Finish.

•The ECRM RIP splash screen displays.

Step 10 Make another selection from the list in the right side of the screen to install the next components or module you want to install.

Step 11 After you finish installing all of your modules, continue to “Configuring the RIP” on page 11.

Step 1 Install the Installation CD ROM and double-click the ECRM RIP icon.

• The CD ROM contents are displayed.

Step 2 Double click on the icon labeled Mac OS X RIP Installer.

• The ECRM RIP splash screen appears.

Step 3 Double click on the Install WorkMates icon.

Step 4 The system automatically starts loading installer resources. Related messages appear as the resources are loaded.

•After the installer resources have been loaded, the ECRM RIP splash screen appears.

Step 5 Click the OK button at the bottom of the splash screen.

• The RIP Installer screen appears.

Step 6 In the window on the left, select the series for your imagesetter (for example, Mako Series).

Step 7 Click on the Options tab at top of the screen.

• The window on the left changes to show all available options.

Step 8 Select the appropriate ProofReady Plugin (for example, ProofReady for HP).

• The window at the right displays the available devices for the option.

Step 9 Click open the “Find RIP or option for” list that is at the bottom of the screen.

• The output device list opens.

Step 10 Select your specific output device (for example, HP DesignJet 3000 Series).

Step 11 Click the Install button.

• An option-specific “Install here” window appears.

Step 12 Select the RIP folder as the storage location for the option, and then click the Install button.

Note: This and all other RIP options must be stored in the same folder as the RIP.

• The system installs the option. A dynamic status bar appears and tracks the progress of the installation.

• When the installation is complete, the following message appears.

• The Installer screen reappears.

Step 14 If you need to install another option, repeat this procedure. Otherwise, click the Quit button to close the Install window.

Now that you have installed the ProofReady Plug-in, the next step is to configure the RIP so that it recognizes your proofer.

Step 1 Select Start > Programs > ECRM WorkMates> ECRM RIPMate

Step 2 Click on ECRM RIP in the top menu, and click on Configure RIP from the drop down menu.

•The Configure RIP window displays.

Step 3 Click on the Extras button.

•The Configure RIP Extras window displays.

Step 4 Use the scroll bar to choose the proofer to add (e.g., HP DesignJet 3000 Series) and click on the ADD button.

•The Enable Feature window displays.

Step 5 Enter the password provided. (Typically, this is a 7-digit number)

Step 6 Click OK.

•The Configure RIP Extras window displays, with Yes applied to the plugin.

Step 7 Click OK. The plug-in is now available for use.

Step 8 Repeat steps 3 through 5 to add the HDS and the HIPP plug-ins.

Step 9 Click OK twice to return to the main menu.

Now that you have installed the plug-in for your proofer, the next step is to create a page setup for the proofer. For detailed information read the Epson ProofReady.pdf or the HP ProofReady.pdf in the Documentation folder of the ECRM RIP CD.

Step 1 Launch the RIP.

•The RIP windows display.

Step 2 Click on ECRM RIP from the main menu and select Page Setup Manager.

•The Page Setup Manager window displays.

Step 3 Click on the New button.

Step 3 Choose the output method you are using by clicking on the down arrow in the output method box.

Step 4 If you choose Network, the file output remains the default values, fill in the IP address with the IP address of your device, and set the Port Number to 9100 for Jet Direct single printer or 515 for 10/100 Base-T type B Ethernet card.

Step 5 If you choose File, choose the folder you want to save the file in, and the network output settings remain unchanged.

Step 6 If you choose a Printer Port, file output network output remain unchanged.

•The configure device output method choices displays.

Step 7 The Output section of the Configure Device dialog box, is determined by the type of device you have.

printer’s setting)

Step 1 Click on the down arrow in the Calibration information field and select the paper and resolution appropriate for your proofer.

•If you have an HP proofer selected, the HP paper and resolution choices display.

Step 2 Check the Center page on media width checkbox.

Step 3 (Optional) Check the Center Page on Media Length checkbox.

Step 4 Click on the down arrow in the Page size information field and select the appropriate page size or other.

•If other is selected enter page width.

•If other is selected enter page height (sheet). (You can enter any number for a roll selection).

Step 5 Click OK.

•The save page set up dialog box displays.

Step 2 Type a name in the information field, and click on the Save button.

•The Page Setup Manager window displays with the new page setup listed. Your page set up is now saved and available for use with your proofer.

Separations information is saved together with screening information in a separations style, which can be used in several page setups. You can keep a number of separations styles that you use regularly, for example to define different screening options.

Step 1 From the RIP window Click on Color, then click on separations manager.

•The separations manager window displays.

Step 2 Click on the down arrow in the Device information field, and select a proofing device.

Step 3 Click on the New button.

For Example, if you decide to minus the color in the Cyan midtones because the proof looks to have a cyan cast, proceed as follows:

• Push the Clear button

• Enter 45% at the 50% location

• Click the Extrapolate button. You will see a new, system-generated curve.

• If you have determined other values as being more appropriate than the system generated values, manually enter your values in the appropriate boxes.

Step 7 Click on the OK button. (If you only changed one or two colors, and then click the OK button, a message warning you that you did not view the other colors displays. Yes is the correct response. If you worked on all four colors, this warning does not display.

Step 10 If your input job was on a creamy yellowish paper, but the proof is on a bright white paper check the Fill background with paper color of input job. The creamy color will be simulated on the proof.
