DAY 1 : Font-RomeuHotel check-in and time to settle into your room.Enjoy a glass of Muscat while we introduce you to the Carlit Hotel and the programme of excursions.Evening meal and overnight in hotel.

DAY 2 : La Cerdagne, Font-Romeu and ValcebollèreMorning: 50 km – Afternoon: 50 km

La Cerdagne is a high plateau surrounded by mountains, home to an ancient regional culture where Romanesque churches, towers and defensive fortifications are to be found in abundance. A guided tour of the town of Bourg-Madame, formerly known as guinguette d’Hix, will enable you to discover its Romanesque architecture. On Sunday, you’ll be free to enjoy the market and shops of Puigcerdà.Lunch at the hotel.Visit the village and resort of Font-Romeu. See the solar furnace and the Olympic facilities related to the bid to hold the 2010 Winter Olympics in the area. The chapelle de l’Ermitage chapel is a must-see for its altarpiece and camaril, as is the Fontaine du Pèlerin, (Pilgrim’s Fountain), from where the resort gets its name. We will visit Odeillo’s Wednesday market. Valcebollère has an outstanding view over le Puigmal mountain. Once famous for its slate roofs, this typically Catalan village also plays host to cave houses. We will also pay a visit to a ham-drying shed at Saillagouse to enjoy the finest

traditional meats.Evening meal and overnight at the hotel. Programme of evening entertainment.

DAY 3 : La Côte VermeilleDay trip: 270 km

The Côte Vermeille, (Vermillion Coast), born where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean, boasts coves, forelands and spurs where the sun-kissed Banyuls dessert wine is grown. Visit Collioure, where the quality of light is such that it inspired many renowned painters. Tasting session and tour of the Byrrh (a wine-based aperitif) cellars: 600 vats and tuns in oak cluster round the largest oak-wood wine vat in the world (10002 hl). Visit the maison de L’Or, where you’ll sample local sweets such as turron

(nougat) and rousquille (small round biscuits.) Visit and tasting session at a local winegrower’s.Lunch.You will return to Font-Romeu via the stunning mountain route taken by the charming little yellow train (le canari) (optional excursion, 10 € per person).Evening meal and overnight at the hotel. Programme of evening entertainment.

DAY 4 : Morning free – Cadi Moixero National Park (Spain)Afternoon: 120 km

Morning free. Pre-lunch aperitif with a range of regional produce.Lunch at the hotel.

Cadi Moixero National Park: This park lies at the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees, a mysterious borderland where the diversity of the climatic conditions, relief, geology and culture nevertheless form a unified whole. We’ll discover the fauna and flora of the Pyrenees. Short walk to the source of the tumultuous Llobregat river.Evening meal and overnight at the hotel. Programme of evening entertainment.

DAY 5 : The Citadel of Mont-Louis – Pas de la Case Morning: 20 km – Afternoon: 100 km

Mont-Louis, a fortress town designed by Vauban, is also the highest fortified town in France and was recently awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. Excursion to the world’s first solar furnace, where Professsor Trombe conducted his scientific experiments behind the citadel’s high walls. After passing through the fortifications, we visit the Puits des Forçats, which supplied the garrison with fresh water thanks to its huge wheel mechanism.Lunch at the hotel.Free time for shopping in the duty-free shops in Pas de la Casa, at the heart of the Principality of Andorra. You’ll also have time to explore an age-old country where history and tradition are very much alive… Evening meal and overnight at the hotel.

DAY 6 :Following breakfast, it’s time to head home.

DAY 6 : Le CapcirDay trip: 85 km

The Capcir is a land of forests, lakes, meadows and villages in granite, topped with ‘llose’ (flattish shale roofs). Walk around the mountain lake of Balcères, famous for its trout fishing, and discover the flora and fauna of the Pyrenees along the way. (OR Option + 7 € : pedestrian walk in Angles wildlife park).Barbecue lunch by the lakeshore (weather permitting).Formiguères is a traditional mountain village, with a 12th century church, Sainte Marie, boasting a bell wall with 4 bells. You’ll plunge headlong into history thanks to

an original walking trail, the ‘Formiguères d’Antan’ (Formiguères of Yesteryear), featuring, at every stopping point along the way, photographs of the village taken one hundred years ago at the exact place where you are standing. Visit the Grotte de Fontrabiouse caves where you’re sure to be warmly welcomed. Bring walking shoes (can be hired in the village).Evening meal and overnight at the hotel.

DAY 7 : Morning free – Village of Dorres and its Roman bathsAfternoon: 20 km

Morning free.Lunch at the hotel.Visit the village of Dorres, together with its museum, before heading to the Roman baths. These open-air baths are surrounded by trees and offer a gorgeous view of the summit of Puigmal, as well as the chance to relax for nature-lovers and water-babies alike. The sulphur-rich hot spring that gushes from granite rock is the highest in the

country in terms of metres above sea level. Its water temperature is measured at 41°C. After coming out of the rock, it fills a small pool.Evening meal and overnight at the hotel.

DAY 8 : DEPARTUREThe group leaves after breakfast.
