Brett McQueen, PhD (PI) Total Award: $75,000“Methods for Assessing Sustainability of Health Care Delivery Innovations: Application to Palliative Care for Neurologic Disorders”In this pilot project, we will address methodological challenges of health care costing by applying time-driven activity-based costing (TDABC), a costing approach that engages clinical and financial teams to accurately estimate resources and costs involved in treating patients over their entire care cycle. We will apply TDABC to the cycle of care for patients with Parkinson’s disease at the neurology PC clinic. Our goal of this pilot project is to estimate the incremental costs of the University of Colorado neurology PC clinic as compared to a clinic without PC services to quantify opportunities to improve returns on investing in neurology PC. In conjunction with a Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) grant (Kluger PI), this pilot project will directly advance the mission of D2V within the Patient & System Value Core by determining the value and sustainability of expanding innovative care models such as neurology PC to other life-limiting conditions and ambulatory settings.Role: Mentor
