NEW MSP MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT
Changes to candidate materials
Previously:Optional review letter from the Chair appeared in candidate portfolio.
Now:Chair is now a distinct review level; chairs will upload those letters to “Review, Responses, and Addenda” folder.

Changes to candidate materials (Optional in this transitional cycle)
• Lecturers can use the terminology of the new titles, e.g., “seeking promotion to Associate Teaching Professor.”There is no need to edit your file if you have referenced your role as a “Lecturer.”
• Retain title of “Lecturer” on cover page where indicating rank at initial appointment.

Changes to review levels
Two new levels of review:
• The Department Chair is now “level 2” after the DPC. In the case of a Chair seeking promotion, there will be no Chair level.
• The Provost is now “level 6” after University Rank and Tenure.
Level 1: DPC
Level 2: Chair
Level 3: CPC
Level 4: Dean
Level 5: R&T
Level 6: Provost
Level 7: Chancellor(Only tenure applications go to the BOT)

NEW MSP MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT
Changes to DPC membership
• The DPC deliberates as a group and prepares one letter that reflects the committee vote to include majority and minority recommendations.
• An individual is ineligible for membership on a committee if there is conflict of interest such as they are a candidate under review or they have a familial or personal relationship with a candidate under review.

Changes to DPC membership, cont’d
• The department chairperson shall not be a member of the DPC for purposes of P&T process, and regardless of rank shall write an independent chair recommendation.
• At least one Associate or Full Clinical/Teaching Professor must serve on DPC as a voting member when Clinical/Teaching faculty come up for promotion.

• Consists of an elected full professor from each department in the college. Department chairs do not serve on the CPC.
• Members of the CPC will recuse themselves from votes for faculty members from their own department.
• They will present faculty candidates from their own department and answer questions and will then leave the room before the vote takes place.

Previously:Convincing evidence of excellence in at least two, and strength in the third, of the areas of teaching; research, creative, or professional activity; and service, such as to demonstrate the possession of qualities appropriate to a member of the faculty occupying a permanent position.
Now:Convincing evidence of excellence in research, creative or professional activity and teaching and strength in service…

Change to terms of consideration for tenure
Previously:The Chancellor may not recommend for tenure any candidate who has not received positive recommendations at two review levels, or one of the previous levels in the case of unit members from the College of Education[.]
Now:The Chancellor may not recommend for tenure any candidate who has not received positive recommendations at least three review levels, or two of the previous levels in the case of unit members from the College of Education or when a candidate is a Chair.

Change to tenure clock
A faculty member may receive a tenure delay for up to two parental leaves. Should a faculty member not wish the tenure delay, he/she has up to a year from their return to campus to opt out of the delay.
