Promoting Gender Justice Through Engagement Education and Empowerment
The project aims to promote gender equality through empowerment of young women within rural Punjab, India. Sixteen Social Sciences and Psychology (SSAP), Western Sydney University students will engage with young women at Mehar Baba Charitable Trust (MBCT), Bassi Pathana, Punjab along with students at Centre for Human Rights and Duties (CHRD), Panjab University (PU) Chandigarh. They will attempt to comprehend the concerns, opportunities and overall wellbeing of young women in rural Panjab. As joint ambassadors, they will through advocacy, promote Gender Equality and women’s Empowerment. This transformational experience will offer students a chance to value their own and understand the lack of opportunities available to young women within rural Panjab. First-hand experience and knowledge about culture, language, traditions and development in the Indo-Pacific region meets a strategic priority of the University, enhancing employability. Multi-year funding will assist in up-scaling the project and deepening bonds between partner organisations, Australia and India.
