A Hobby that Reduces Stress,Exercises Your Brain and isFun at Any Age(ARA) - Looking for a hobby

that's not only fun but great for your health? How about takingup music?

According to studies conducted by NAMM, the trade associationof the international music prod-ucts industry, playing a musicalinstrument can increase memory, reduce stress, lower blood pres-sure, build confidence and resultin greater academic success. Soit's no surprise that a stunning 82 percent of Americans who don'tcurrently play an instrument wishthey did.

"At age 5 or 85, everyone can bene-fit socially, mentally and physicallyfrom playing an instrument," saysJoe Lamond, president and CEO of  NAMM and a life-long drummer. "It's never too late to start, and playing aninstrument is something that can last a lifetime."

NAMM is spreading the word about the benefits of music making throughits national Wanna Play? campaign, designed to inspire people to get in-volved in making music, whether by taking lessons or purchasing an instru-ment they've always wanted to play. And it looks like people are getting themessage. More and more Americans are dusting off their old instrumentsor trying one out for the first time. Garage bands are no longer exclusivelyteen-aged rockers. They are now made up of everyone from middle-agedmoms wanting to reduce stress to the elderly aiming to improve their mem-ory through playing a musical instrument.

Even the government is behind the benefits of making music. Recently, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed House Concurrent Resolution 121,showing support for music education as part of a complete curriculum for all children. NAMM-funded research has found that 96 percent of publicschool principals believe that participating in music education encourag-es and motivates students to stay in school longer. Additionally, on theSAT Reasoning Test, students taking courses in music performancescored 57 points higher on critical reading, 58 points higher on writingand 43 points higher on mathematics than students with no arts and mu-sic participation, according to the 2006 College-Bound Seniors AnnualReport.

Celebrities and public figures have also come forward in their support for  NAMM's Wanna Play? campaign and its message. Gavin DeGraw, thetalented singer/songwriter/pianist/guitarist who broke onto the musicscene with his hit "I Don't Want to Be," brings his passion for makingmusic to people of all ages as the first ambassador of the campaign.

"You can feel the excitement and sense of possibility in everyone who picks up an instrument, whether they are my age or my dad's age," saysDeGraw. "To play music, I don't need any money in my pocket or any-one else around. Music has changed my life; are you ready to let itchange yours?"

DeGraw is reaching out to kids and adults alike, convincing people to pursue -- or perhaps revisit -- their passion for playing an instrument.

You can visit www.namm.org for more information on the Wanna Play?campaign and the positive impact of music making.

Here’s How It Works:Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken downinto nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Eachnumber can appear only once in each row, column and box.You can figure out the order in which the numbers willappear by using the numeric clues already provided in theboxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets tosolve the puzzle!

Solution appears below.

5 Tips for Fighting Vacation Inflation(NewsUSA) - If you've already started planning your summer va-cation, you've probably noticed that your dollar won't take you asfar as it used to.

Hotel rates are at record highs. The same goes for gas prices. Evensome airfares to popular destinations seem to be taking off.

But vacation inflation doesn't have to spoil your next getaway. Here are five secrets that will save you hundreds of dollars - andhundreds of headaches - on your next vacation:

1. Steer clear of the crowds. This summer, as throngs of vaca-tioners head to the beach, why not plot a course for the moun-tains?

Traditional winter resorts lower their prices dramatically duringthe offseason. (This works the other way around during the winter, when beach resorts are on sale.) You could cut the price of your vacation in half.

2. Beat high gas prices by flying. With fuel prices near $3 a gallon

in some cities, taking a car on vacation can be costly.

If you're making a long-distance trip, consider flying. Do the math, and in some cases, you'll find that it's cheaper to take a plane. Thisoption doesn't just save money, but also time.

3. Look for lodging alternatives. Whether you're staying withfriends, pitching a tent or renting an apartment, chances are you'llsave a bundle compared to the sky-high hotel bill you'll get at theend of your summer vacation. How much? Up to 40 percent or more.

4. Get picky about restaurant food. Don't eat every meal at a restau-rant. Savvy travelers usually choose lunch as their meal out be-cause the food prices are lower than on the dinner menus. Thenthey buy groceries and prepare a meal in their room. That can save

the average family more than $100 a day in food bills.

5. Use a travel agent. A trusted travel professional is your best betfor finding a money-saving, inflation-fighting vacation.

Agents have great leads on terrific getaways that won't break the bank, like package tours, cruises and all-inclusive resort vacations.A good agent can cut hundreds, even thousands, of dollars fromthe cost of a family vacation.

With a little planning and research - and choosing when to saveand when to splurge - you can avoid vacation inflation and have aterrific getaway.
