    SuspensionSystem

Suspension is the termgiven to the system of

    springs, shock absorbers

and linkages thatconnects a vehicle to itswheels.

    Serve a dual purpose

:: Contributing to vehiclesroad holding for good

    active safety

:: Keep vehicle occupantscomfortable andreasonably well.

    Protects the vehicle from

    damage and wear.

    PART IN SUSPENSION SYSTEM

CONTROL ARM movable lever thatfastens the steering knuckle to the

    vehicles body or frame.

    STEERING KNUCKLE provides a spindle

or bearing support for the wheel hub, bearings and wheel assembly.

BALL JOINTS swivel joints that allowcontrol arm and steering knuckle to

move up and down and side to side.

SPRINGS supports the weight of thevehicle; permits the control arm andWheel to move up and down.

SHOCK ABSORBERS ORDAMPENERS keeps the suspensionfrom continuing to bounce after springcompression and extension.

CONTROL ARM BUSHINGsleeves that allows the control arm toswing up and down on the frame.

STABILIZER to reduce body rolland keep the body from leaningexcessively in sharp turns.

STRUT ROD to keep two othercomponents separate, performingthe opposite function of a tie.

    CAMBER

Camber is the angle that the vertical axis of the wheel

makes with the road surface. Negative camber is when the top of the wheel leans

into the centre of the car.

Positive camber is when the top of the wheel leans out.

    10/24

Double Wishbone (A-arms) Its got two control arm thats have A shape that

    connected to the frame.

Use to control arm equal length.ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES

Increased negative camberwheel especially when take acorner.

    Expensive.

    Can handle large deflection.

Take longer time to work on.Versatile.

Can work both side, front and

    back car.

    MacPherson Strut

The spring is directly connects to the steering knuckleto the chassis and acts as a link in the suspension. It use a shock absorber strut and a coil spring to replace

the upper control arm.The system is compact, efficient and adapts easily to

    front and rear applications.

    ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES

Cheaper / lighter comparethan double A-arms.

Its taller than double A-armsbecause its take more verticalspace.

Great for four wheel drive(FWD) because the space fordriveshaft.

Small camber changes withbody roll.No camber gain forcornering.Due to the strut mounted tothe body.

    Its narrower than double A-arms.

It must mount with the bodydesign. The body is almostnecessary for handlingstreet/forces.

    MULTI LINK FRONT

    13/24

    MULTI-LINK FRONTSUSPENSION

Allows each wheel on the same angle to movevertically reacting to a bump in the road

independently of each other. It helps to absorbs harshness in the road. The type of vehicle suspension design typically used in

independent suspensions that using three or morelateral arms and one or more longitudinal arms.

REAR SUSPENSION TYPEa. Coil Spring Live-Axle

The telescopic type shock absorber is attached to the axleat the bottom and the chassis at the top. The coil spring ismounted between the axle housing and the body.

It allows for a large amount of suspension travel and itscommonly preferred for off-road vehicle application.

    b. Strut Based Rear Suspension

It having one single component that attaching the rearwheels.

Its work to maximize tire performance asindependents suspensions allow the tread to contactthe road over a great surface area.

To allow the tire to wear more evenly and extend life.

    c. Multi-Link Rear Suspension

Using double wishbone because theyre easilyincorporated with ball joints.

Uses several control arms to guide the wheel and itfeature different types of multilink models.

    REMOVING AND REPLACINGSUSPENSION

Prior to loosening the strut chassis bolts, scribealignment marks on the strut bolts and the chassis.

With the top strut bolts and nuts removed, raisethe car to a working height.

Remove the wheel assembly. The strut is accessiblefrom the wheel well after the wheel is removed.

  • 7/29/2019 PROJEK AKM.pptx

    18/24

Remove the bolt that fastens the brake line or hoseto the strut assembly.

Remove the struts two steering knuckle bolts.

Support the steering knuckle with wire and

remove the strut assembly from the car.

  • 7/29/2019 PROJEK AKM.pptx

    19/24

Install the strut assembly into the proper type ofspring compressor.

Compress the spring until it is possible to safelyloosen the retaining bolts.

Remove the old strut assembly from the spring andinstall the new strut.

  • 7/29/2019 PROJEK AKM.pptx

    20/24

Compress the spring to allow for reassembly andtighten the retaining bolts.

Reinstall the strut assembly into the car.

Make sure all bolts are properly tightened and inthe correct locations.

CONCLUSION A vehicles suspension system is essential to how

comfortably it drives. Moreover, a suspension system isintegral to a vehicles smooth handling. A suspensionsystem that is maintained and serviced properly strikes

just the right balance between two functions : It will ride smoothly

    Handle optimally

On the other hand, a suspension system in ill repair may

lead to poor handling or an uncomfortable ride, neitherof which makes for a pleasant driving experience. If wedont care about this suspension system, it will affect ourvehicle and maybe we put our life and others in riskwhen we are on the road.
