Several of the fonts in BES can be used to create appliqué style lettering. In addition, the outline style can be changed from a Satin stitch t0 one of the 200 included motif style

1. Open BES Lettering software. On the home screen select Normal Text and click in the design page area.

2. On the right side of the design page is a drop down listing of the included fonts. For this tutorial select Stargazing.

3. Type the capital letter C within the design page OR you can type it in the text box on

the right side of the screen.

4. From the Home tab menu select your hoop size. For this tutorial the 4X4 hoop was

selected.

5. In order to make changes to the letter it must be selected. If the letter is selected it

will have 8 black boxes around it. To select the letter click on the select icon and then click on the letter.

6. Notice that when the Standard menu is selected you are offered more options than a satin stitch. Select Appliqué.

7. Click Apply at the bottom.

The Standard feature is not available for all fonts. It is only available for those fonts that

have a white box in front of the font name: The white box indicates that there are other choices available.

8. To change the standard satin stitch to a motif type stitch right click and hold on the

slide bar on the far right and move it down so you can the Appliqué properties box.

9. Next to Appliqué Type the drop down menu includes satin, blanket and motif

stitches. Select Motif. There are 200 built in motif stitches to select from.

10. Select #095-stars. Click Apply.

11. The final outline of your appliqué letter will be done with the motif stitch instead of

a satin stitch.

12. Click on the 3D icon to see what the stitch will look like sewn out.

13. To save your letter click on the BES icon in the top left corner .

14. Name your design and select the format you wish to save in. Select a location (like

your desktop or documents) and click Save.

NOTE: If you wish to open your design again and edit it with BES you must save a BRF version of the design. Once saved in another format you can only import the

design not edit.

15. The left side shows the 3 appliqué steps and the colors each step will sew out in.

To change the colors highlight the color on the left by clicking and then click the desired color on the color ribbon running across the top of the design page.
