Project: Why Study Spanish?

You will write an essay of at least 200 words in English explaining why learning Spanish is important and how speaking Spanish is beneficial to people in a specific career path (for example, a doctor, a journalist, a film star, a business person). You must have the career path you will base your essay on approved by me. Pages xvi to xix in your textbook will give you some starting points. You should also include other research you find on the Internet, or in newspapers, magazines or books that support your presentation. All sources should be cited properly (including in text citations) and referenced in a works cited. You can find help in citing your sources at www.easybib.com/. Include in the essay: 1. Research on the prevalence of the Spanish language. Support this research with specific data. 2. Reasons why speaking Spanish is beneficial for the specific career path you have chosen. Give specific detailed examples to support your reasons. The essay will be graded using the CHS Writing Rubric. (on reverse side). In addition, on the due date you will give a summary in English of your essay. The summary must be a minimum of one minute long. The oral presentation will be worth up to an additional 5 points.
