PROJECT UPDATE PROJECT OVERVIEW In August 2018, the City of Aurora and its contractor SEMA Construction, Inc. began construction on the Stephen D. Hogan Parkway project. To honor the City of Aurora’s late mayor, the parkway name was changed from 6th Avenue Parkway to Stephen D. Hogan Parkway. Funding for this project is being provided by Arapahoe County, E-470, and the City of Aurora. The project includes a new extension parkway that will close a two-mile gap in the current system and will connect East 6th Avenue to the E-470 Tollway. This will provide a continuous east-west connection between the two roads. The project is designed to improve access to residential communities east of E-470 by reducing travel time for motorists and emergency vehicles. In addition to the construction of a new two-lane roadway, the project includes: • A new roadway bridge over Sand Creek • Modifying a section of the Triple Creek Trail • Constructing two new intersections; one at Picadilly Road and the other at State Highway 30 PROJECT UPDATE Work continues to progress to the west along the corridor east of 6th Avenue and west of Picadilly Road. Construction crews began placing fill dirt at the bridge approaches over the summer, and then moved to the east side of the project near E-470 and Valdai Street. Over the next three months, construction will continue on the bridge near State Highway 30 and Buckley Air Force Base, as well as curb and gutter installation and the completion of pipe work. The project is currently 30% complete and is scheduled to be fully complete in the fall of 2019. TRAFFIC IMPACTS Lane shifts in both lanes near Picadilly Road, 300 feet south of the intersection of East 6th Avenue and Picadilly Road, can be expected during working hours. Traffic control flaggers may be present to guide motorists through the construction area; however, delays of up to 15 minutes can be expected. Normal working hours are Monday–Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Some weekend and night work may be needed. 720.388.1180 [email protected] AuroraGov.org/HoganParkway December 2018 STEPHEN D.
