The Abu Dhabi Municipality has been searching for a waterproofing system after an excessive leakage of product from irrigation tanks for several years.Various systems have been applied but have already failed after a short time frame.Based on the original construction of a concrete base in combination with steel walls, the interface areas showed severe corrosion problems caused by the leakage.Corrocoat PUA SG was tested on steel plates. After theexceptional performance of Corrocoat PUA system for flexibility and adhesion the system was approved and specified as the preferred internal tank lining system.

The application took place in 6 steps:1. All substrates were high pressure washed.2. Steel walls were grit blasted to SA 2.5 cleanliness and to a minimum 75 µm profile.3. Concrete base was sweep blasted to prepare concrete substrate for further overcoating.4. Corroprime EP SF primer was applied to steel substrate to enhance bonding.5. Irregularities in concrete surface were repaired with Corromortar FC, after which concrete was primed.6. Corrocoat PUA SG was applied to a thickness of 2.5 mm by high pressure application.

The complete process of surface-preparation, application of base coat and top coat was successfully completed in 25 days despite difficult access, extreme ambient and working conditions.
