Status of Project New

2.2 Brief Description of Nature of the Project The proposed mining lease area is 33.215 Ha at Dostpur, Bhedanti Village of District- Mahendergarh (Haryana). It has been proposed to excavate 21,000 Tons per year of Limestone.

2.3 Need for the Project and Its Importance to the Country or Region The said project plays a significant role in the domestic as well as infrastructural market. Limestone has many industrial uses and can be used as mined or processed into a wide variety of products. It is the raw material for a large variety of construction, agricultural, environmental, and industrial materials. Limestone is used in construction almost everywhere. Limestone is the key ingredient in making Portland cement. Despite our Nation's abundance of limestone, there have been cement shortages in recent years. Some of the purest of natural limestone are marbles. For centuries, marble has been the decorative stone of choice in government buildings and public statues. Travertine is also used as a dimension stone in tiles and tabletops. Some white limestone is simply crushed and sieved for use in landscaping and roofing. Powdered limestone is used to remove impurities from molten metal like steel. It can also remove toxic compounds from the exhaust of coal- burning power plants. Limestone is used as a filler in a variety of products, including paper, plastic, and paint. The purest limestone is even used in foods and medicines such as breakfast cereals and calcium pills. Limestone is also the raw material for making lime (CaO) that is used to treat soils, purify water, and smelt copper. Lime has many additional uses in the chemical industries. Dolomites are commonly less suitable than other industrial limestone for most applications. Most dolomite that is mined is simply crushed and sieved for use as aggregate in concrete or asphalt. Lime Stone is used in various building and construction works etc. and will be sold to nearby markets to fulfill the requirements of the localpeople.

2.4 Demands-Supply Gap Large demand of Lime stone for cement, many industrial uses and can be used as mined or processed into a

Pre-Feasibility Report

wide variety of products etc. There are sufficient reserves of Lime stone in the state as well as country which can meet the domestic demand.

2.5 Imports vs. Indigenous Production The demand for Lime stone is ever growing with the growth of the infrastructure sector in our country. The

mineral is used in the construction activities. The requirement for the mineral is always high in the nearby

cities and towns.

Therefore there is always a good demand of the mineral in the domestic market.

2.6 Export Possibility The total proposed production capacity is 21000 TPA. This quantity can only fulfil the local market demands.

2.7 Domestic/ Export Markets Limestone of every grade produced from the mine will be supplied to the grinding plant of the lessee and other plant at Mahedergarh and other part of the state and the Limestone powder of different mesh would be marketed to the different end user industries according to the physical and chemical specification stipulated bythem.

2.8 Employment Generation (Direct and Indirect) due to theproject Around 11 workers will be employed directly in the proposed mining project. Transportation is required. Hence jobs and business opportunities will come up.

3.0 PROJECT DESCRIPTION 3.1 Type of Project Including Interlinked and Interdependent Projects, If Any. Project is an open cast- mechanized mining project. This project does not have interlink or interdependency on any other project. As per EIA Notification 2006 and as amended in EIA Notification on dated 15.01.2016, the project activity falls

under Category ‘A’ due to interstate boundary of Haryana/ Rajasthan, which lies at the distance of ~50 m in

South direction. Hence it attracts general condition.

3.2 Location (map showing general location, specific location, and project boundary & project site layout) withcoordinates. The lease area is situated near Village – Dostpur, Bhedanti, Tehsil- Narnaul and District – Mahendergarh (Haryana). The lease area falls within the Survey of India top sheet no. 54A/1. The location of the mine is shown in the figure below.

by open cast mechanized method of mining.

3.5 Project description with process details Method of Mining Proposed method of development: - It is proposed to undertake the mining of limestone mineralized in the lease area as earmarked in the surface cum

geological plan. It is proposed to open a new pit near the existing nearby lease holders in the eastern/ south side of the lease. The proposed production rate for limestone when the mine is fully developed is 21,000 T per annum. This production level can be achieved by adopting the following system:

i) The removal of overburden of soil will be mechanized. ii) Winning of mineral shall also be mechanized.

Since mechanized mining operations have been proposed in overburden formation and mechanized mining for winning of mineral, the bench height of 6.0m will be maintained. The required permission shall be

obtained from the DGMS to conduct mechanized mining operation by using backhoe loading machine and

dumpers for transport. Drilling of limestone will be done by use of Jackhammer drills.

3.6 Raw Material Required Along With Estimated Quantity, Likely Source, Marketing Area of Final Product/s, mode of Transport of Raw Material and Finished Product No raw material will be required in the proposed project. The operation involves the excavation of Limestone in its existing form and transported to the end users.

Surface Transport The transportation of mineral from pit head to the consumer crushers / traders will be carried out by the trucks of generally 25 MT Capacity. There is all weather metalled road and then a kuccha road right up to mines to dispatch the material from mines to the market . It will be purchased by the parties at mine site and transported by them through their own arrangement of trucks. The practice is quite sound in the area and ensure continuous lifting of the material. Customers come with transport arrangement of their own.

28°08’30” and between East Longitudes 75°54’00” and 76°51’30”. Mahendergarh district is bounded by Bhiwani and Rohtak districts in its north, Rewari in its east and Alwar and Jhunjhunu (Rajasthan) districts in its south and west respectively. The district comprises two tehsils, namely; Mahendergarh, and Narnaul. The rocks exposed in the district belong to Delhi Supergroup and are divided into Alwar and Ajabgarh groups. The Alwar groups of rocks comprise predominantly of arenaceous sediments and are represented by massive

quartzite, usually felspathic in nature, micaceous quartizite with subordinate bands of mica schist and carbonaceous phyllite. The Khudana ridge, besides containing massive quartzite also contains thinly bedded dark grey quartzite with schist intercalations, at places garnetiferous. The Ajabgarh groups of rocks in the area are characterized predominantly by argillaceous sediments and include shale, slate and silt stone occur together with a few quartzitic and cherty bands, siltstone being more predominant than the other two varieties. Both these groups of rocks are intruded by amphibolite, granite, aplite, pegmatite, calcite and vein quartz.

4.6.2 Drainage The area does not have any hill and entire area is plain so there is no drainage channel. However, the slope of the applied area is from south to north.

4.6.3 Regional geology and Local geology a) Regional geology The rocks exposed in the district belong to Delhi Supergroup and are divided into Alwar and Ajabgarh groups. The Alwar groups of rocks comprise predominantly of arenaceous sediments and are represented by massive quartzite, usually felspathic in nature, micaceous quartizite with subordinate bands of mica schist and carbonaceous phyllite. The Khudana ridge, besides containing massive quartzite also contains thinly bedded dark grey quartzite with schist intercalations, at places garnetiferous. The Ajabgarh group of rocks in the area is characterised predominantly by argillaceous sediments and include shale, slate and silt stone occur together with a few quartzitic and cherty bands, siltstone being more predominant than the other two varieties. Both these groups of rocks are intruded by amphibolite, granite, aplite, pegmatite, calcite and vein quartz. The rocks of Delhi Super group constitute a part of the main Aravalli Range, originating from Gujarat, in the South West to Haryana in the North East. This supergroup comprises thick pile of meta-sediments having a cumulative thickness of 6000 m, which is divided into an older Alwar Group and younger Ajabgarh Group. The Alwar Group is dominantly arenaceous with argillaceous intercalations while the Ajabgarh Group is dominantly argillaceous with arenaceous and calcareous components. The demarcation between the groups, in the absence of any unconformity, is based on facies variation, structural discontinuity and lithological characteristics in the rocks exposed in the adjacent state of Rajasthan. The rocks of both these groups are intruded by acid and basic intrusives. The rocks of Alwar Group in Haryana are represented by Bayal- PanchnotaFormation, whichisequivalenttoPratapgarhFormation, theyoungestformationofAlwarGroupin Rajasthan. The rocks belonging to this group are exposed in two sectors in South Western and South Eastern Haryana. In the South Western sector, these rocks are exposed as linear deposition trending NE - SW ridges, consisting of quartzite. These ridges are exposed in Bayal-Panchnota, Sareli-Tehla- Mukundpura, Ruppursarai - Narhedi,Sohla,Nimbi,Narnaul,KhodanaandKalianaareas.IntheSouthEast, prominentexposuresarefound around Khori Khurd, Khori Kalan and Shikarpur. The regional strike varies from N15°E-S15°W to N 45°E-S45°W with vertical to steep dips to the NW or SE. The metapelitic rocks exposed in Tosham area are associated with rhyolite and granite, and are tentatively clubbed under undifferentiated Ajabgarh Group, till further classification.ThedetailedstratigraphicsequenceoftheDelhiSupergroupofrocksinHaryanaisgivenbelow.

Spraying of water and plantation along the road side prevents the spread of dust. Plantation also acts as barrier for restricting pollution. Impact on air environment has been assessed taking in to consideration the proposed production and increase emissions. The sources of air pollution are given below:

Operation of mining machinery/ loadingoperations.

Transportation ofmineral.

Wind erosion from barren area and riverbed.

Air pollutants released during production can be checked by:

Dust suppression system/ water spraying would be adopted at mine working and loadingpoints.

Excavation operations to be suspended during very strong windconditions.

Afforestation will be carried out for control ofdust.

Plantation with wide canopy trees along approach road will help in dustsuppression. Persons to be provided with dust mask and other personal protective equipments particularly during

summer months and dust stormperiods.

Transportation

Regular water spraying on haulage roads during mineral transportation by water sprinklers,

Avoid over loading of tippers and consequent spillage on theroads,

Mineral carrying trucks will be effectively covered by tarpaulin to avoid escape of fine dust to atmosphere.

Air quality will be regularly monitored both in the core zone and the bufferzone.

Controlling of NO2 level The source of NOx is due to vehicular emission. This can be controlled by proper maintenance and servicing of vehicles. Only P.U.C. certificated vehicles will be permitted.
