• What is project planning?



• Planning includes estimating the attributes of work products and tasks,

• determining the resources needed,

• producing a schedule, and identifying and analyzing project risks

The main purpose of project plane is to , the basis for performing and controlling the project activities that address the commitments with the project customer’s.

delivery. The term “project plan” is used throughout this process area

to refer to the overall plan for controlling the project



Establish Estimates Estimates of project planning parameters are established and

maintained. include all information needed by the project to perform

necessary planning organizing, staffing

directing, coordinating reporting, and budgeting.



Estimate the Scope of the Project• Project scope is the part of project planning That involves determining and documenting a list of specific project

goals, tasks, costs and deadlines. Effective scope management requires good communication to ensure that

everyone on the team understands the scope of the project.



Define Project Lifecycle PhasesThe project lifecycle phases need to be defined depending on the scope of requirements, the estimates for project resources, and the nature of the project.



Estimate Effort and CostThere are three main areas to estimate before your project Starts

Effort Duration

Cost Of the three, you must estimate effort first to understand the total

amount of work.

For example, if you have a project that you are estimating to be 800 effort hours, the duration will depend on the resources that you can apply. If you only have one person, the duration might be six months. If you have three people, the effort might be three months or less.



• Once you understand the resources that you can apply to the project, you are in a position to create the cost estimate.

Develop a Project PlanA project plan is a formal approved document used to manage and control the execution of the project. It is based on project requirements and established estimates



Plan Data Management A data management plan is a formal document that outlines how you will handle

your data both during your research, and after the project is completed1. Data management plan2. Master list of managed data3. Data content and format description4. Lists of data requirements for acquirers and suppliers5. Privacy requirements6. Security requirements7. Security procedures8. Mechanisms for data retrieval, reproduction, and distribution9. Identify Project Risks– Have not been done before

– Rely on new equipment

– Depend on training of personnel

– Allow extra margins for risky tasks



Plan Needed Knowledge and Skills• Assign tasks to specific people (or teams)• Order tasks so that they occur in a logical sequence• Match tasks to abilities of the team• Allow for flexibilities – the team can do sub-planning• One person (or team) may do multiple tasks (e.g. to reduce boredom).
