OUR BEGINNINGS

Looking back, it seems inevitable.

Growing up in Napier, a small regional pocket in the Western Cape of South Africa, GlobeWest founders Alan and Stephen Mendel spent their young lives observing with interest their parents’ passion for collecting and restoring antique furniture for the family home.

The boys’ uncle Jack manufactured furniture, whilst their father also owned and ran a successful furniture shop retailing mainstream tables, chairs and bric-a-brac for the district.

10,000+ kms from South Africa, and half a lifetime later following parallel careers, the brothers decided to build something together in their new home of Australia.

Combining their complementary skills under a shared passion for interiors, in 2004 GlobeWest was born.

Founded in 2004, GlobeWest is a private company based in Melbourne with State Offices, Agency, & Distributor partnerships throughout Australia & New Zealand.

Under the GlobeWest brand, we design, develop, distribute & market a covetable range of furniture and homewares with aspirational yet attainable price tags. We also proudly distribute complimentary, like-minded international brands Gus*, Ethnicraft and Sketch.

We consider it a privilege that project specifiers, interior design professionals & boutique retailers recommend our products and truly believe that good design enhances people’s everyday lives.

Our co-founders Alan and Stephen Mendel still fully own and actively run GlobeWest, supported by an ever growing contingent of expert staff across various departments:
