Aluminum Formworkthe future of construction

Advantages of Aluminum Formwork for the super structure of the tower

Faster Speed of Construction

Reduces internal brickwork and plastering

Superior Quality of in-situ casting of structure and transverse walls in a continuous operation

Increased Carpet area by 2-3% by avoiding internal plastering

Limitations of Aluminum Formwork

The system does not allow for modifications to the structure and floor layouts

High initial capital cost. Employing the aluminum formwork for greater number of repetitions helps distribute the investment and reduces the effective cost of the build.

CONCLUSION

Project B is very well suited for using Aluminum Shuttering based on the Phasing program

as required by the Clients and the overall financial viability of the System.

For Project A the conventional shuttering system is more suited due to its additional

flexibility which allows for the project to get completed 4 months earlier as compared to

Aluminum Shuttering.

Grand Palladiumbuilding with structural steel

A unique project designed by Architect Kamal Malik and engineered by WSP, UK uses High Yield Strength Structural Steel from CORUS for the main members and the skin truss supporting the cantilevered slabs at all levels. The façade is clad with KALZIP.

Major challenges at GMS included managing the Design Process which was extremely complex, planning logistics of building with steel within a busy urban area in the shortest possible time.

2200 MT of High Yield strength Structural Steel was used.

Material supplied primarily by CORUS and JSW.

Page 34: Project Execution - Ketan Kapadia

Grand Palladiumbuilding with structural steel

Advantages of Structural Steel in Architecture

Maintains its strength indefinitely- does not deteriorate with age like timber and concrete, provided its surface is protected from corrosion.

Very strong and flexible. The best material for bridges and skyscrapers.

Can be recycled.

Structures can be prefabricated in large sections, and lifted into place with cranes and bolted together- buildings can be erected quickly.

Versatile- Radical architecture is possible using steel.

Heavy and thus expensive to transport, susceptible to corrosion.

Has a high expansion rate in changing temperatures, and this must be allowed for in the engineering. In conditions of repeated stress and changing temperatures, can suffer fatigue and cracks, and more corrosion.

Energy intensive to produce.

Drawbacks of Structural Steel in Architecture
