Content Strategy Project Definition The purpose of Innovation Greenhouse(IG) is to help develop the ideas of students who are looking to transform these ideas into workable projects and businesses. In order to develop a content strategy for IG’s site, we did a landscape analysis in which we studied three different Innovation/Entrepreneurship sites. Once we reviewed each of these sites, we then did a general quantitative audit of each of the components that make up the sites. This audit gave us a better idea of what already existed on the site, in terms of the number of pages and what those pages contained, so that we had a starting point to work with once we started developing the content strategy. We also did a more in depth qualitative audit, which we used to determine what content was useful and what was not. We drew similarities between the content on these sites, as well as how it was organized, compared to IG. As the final step in the landscape analysis, we wrote a report where we discussed what IG did well, and what they needed to do better, based upon the information that we had gathered from the other sites. Project definition phase. What are you doing? - We are developing a content strategy for Innovation Greenhouse to help the site properly convey the program’s mission and what goes on in order to accomplish this mission. This content strategy development includes: full quantitative and qualitative audits on the current IG site; a content strategy report that defines our strategy, audience, and voice; and a brief social media overview in which we will discuss IG’s current social media usage, what we found with social media on the other sites in the landscape analysis, and the ways that IG could improve its social media experience. Content Strategy

Project Definition The purpose of Innovation Greenhouse(IG) is to help develop the ideas of students who are looking to transform these ideas into workable projects and businesses.

Why are you doing it? - We are developing this content strategy to improve the content of the site by making IG’s purpose and goals more clear. Our goal is to make the site more user-friendly, and to garner publicity for IG through improved social media use, to give students a better understanding of what IG is and how it can help them.

What is the overall goal of the project? - Our goal is to help IG get the word out to students who have ideas that they wish to develop, and to sponsors who are willing to contribute their support and funding for these various projects.

Statement of Core strategyTake the sketch of the existing site and skillfully paint it into a flourishing masterpiece that depicts Innovation Greenhouse as the canvas of creations.

Home PageThe purpose of the home page would be to get anybody visiting the page interested in Innovation Greenhouse. Innovation Greenhouse needs more students to come and submit their ideas. If their website somehow becomes popular, more students will visit, and that will increases the chances of having submission ideas.  The home page is the main attraction of the website, If it gets a good feedback from visiting guests, the website could grow. Growing could lead to many positive changes; people visiting would tell others, thus making the website more popular than before. Keeping the front page simple and readable will be the key.

Page LinksThe page links should remain in the home page. The way it is placed on top of the banner is just perfect.

Image BannerThe home page will have to keep some of the stuff on it the same. The UNT style header and footer will have to remain because it is a UNT website. The “innovation greenhouse” banner is great, but  it could use a little more graphical elements; maybe a watered down photo of a room within the innovation greenhouse building.  The photo slide should stay, but the photos need to change. The photos should consist purely of pictures that are involved with innovation greenhouse. The photos could contain pictures of their location, students who submitted ideas, or just anything that involved the organization internally. The slide should also be able to be clicked back and forth. This way, the people who visit the website would get a nice look at what actually happens within the organization.

Upcoming EventsThe upcoming events should stay, but the way it is hyperlinked should be changed. The links should not change color or effects. The events should be linked to the calendar page. Once a link is clicked, it will be taken to where the rest of the events are being displayed on a calendar.

VideoThe video will be necessary to the homepage. It should be a quick one-minute to two minutes video. The one that is up currently will work just fine; maybe consider making a new one with more current endeavors. Visitors of the site need a brief animated way to get a quick description about the site.

About UsThis page will be a new tab that will be added in the navigation bar on the Innovation Greenhouse web site. It includes background information and a mission statement for IG which gives the user the specifics of the program and its purpose. This tab will be included in the navigation bar, second only to the “Home” page, to allow easier access to vital information pertaining to the program’s capabilities.

About Innovation Greenhouse>Do you have an idea for a business? Is there  a product you want to get on the market? Are you looking for help with your entrepreneurial ambitions? At Innovation Greenhouse, we help grow your ideas! We will make sure you get the help and support you need to develop your ideas into marketable products and businesses. Whether you need mentoring, or help with finding investors, Innovation Greenhouse will be with you every step of the way. >Created by Nancy Hong in 2013, Innovation Greenhouse was developed to encourage students in their entrepreneurial interests at the University of North Texas. The program focuses on the importance of innovation, whether it be in the corporate world or in the student’s own endeavors. Programs such as the Inspiration Award and Campus 2.1 appreciate these innovative ideas and encourage their development through prizes and recognition, as well as the possibility of implementation, within the Denton community. As the founder of Innovation Greenhouse, Nancy is interested in helping students succeed in their entrepreneurial endeavors and in the workforce.

News We decided to keep the news page. The purpose of the news page is to display news about the organization. The news needs to have its own page mainly because not many people would immediately care about news. Putting news on the front page would be adding unnecessary content to the front page.

Design NotesThe news page could use a little tweaking. We suggest you make two news archives appear side by side. It makes easier to go through the news feed. Scrolling down and seeing news one by one could get a little boring. The news should continue to link to the different articles where they are posted. The pictures should remain on each link. The little description about the article that is currently being used on the pictures will do just fine. The news page is just fine as it is, only suggestion is making it a two by two feed.

News StoryEach story featured on the “News” page will link to the full-page article hosted on the Innovation Greenhouse site, similar to the way the site currently functions. However, some design changes have been made to streamline the appearance of the page and to provide the user with easier access to the original article.

Design NotesEach news article will feature the title of the article, followed by the name of the site the article came from. The title of the article should function as a clickable link to the article hosted on the original site.

>Denton Invites SXSW to Come Create source: discoverdenton.com

The images associated with the articles should be half the size they currently are. If there is only one image, it should be featured in the top right corner of the article, as is indicated in the wireframe. Additional images should be placed appropriately within the body of the article, but should only take up one column of the page, not the entire width.

Since these articles are coming from outside sources, we are making no suggestions for actual content, but adjusting the layout of the content should make the pages look more consistent and improve the reading experience for the user. Giving direct access to the originators of the article helps users see that Innovation Greenhouse is getting attention from outside entities. This increases your credibility and encourages users to get excited about what you are doing.

Support Us The “Support us” tab will remain on the website. The purpose of this page is to gain supporters in the most respectful way. The description on the “Support us” page that is currently in place will do just fine. The only difference that could help enhance this page, is adding a picture. The picture should contain a group photo of the different students and faculty involved with Innovation Greenhouse.

Support Us>We are currently seeking support for future programs! When you support these innovative and creative events that lead to jobs creation and education for our youth, you are making an investment in our community's future and showcasing your company's commitment to the community where we live, work, and raise our kids.

ImageAs mentioned, the photo should be a group photo of students and faculty. The photo would give the sponsors or actual supporters a heart-warming look of what they are investing in.

Social Media StrategyInnovation Greenhouse is currently involved in social media, yet it does not seem like the Twitter and Facebook pages get the frequent amount of updates they should. Being involved in a social media platform is an ideal step if you are looking for more people to know about the organization. Having a presence now means that you can start accumulating users or followers to be on board. They will share Innovation Greenhouse news to their other social media friends, which could lead to growing IG as a whole.

UIC used Facebook to post photos of their innovation organization surroundings and people that are involved. We believe this is an efficient way to show off pictures of the organization. Pictures are always a nice way to introduce someone to something new and to give people a connection to the organization and the people who are involved in it. UTD used Twitter to post lists and motivational news articles. This will blend in well with the message that they are trying to send to the students. Innovation Greenhouse should utilize these methods in order to catch up to the rest of these schools. The organization will gain followers through time, and more people will come to know of Innovation Greenhouse at UNT.

We envision IG improving its social media usage in various ways.  We have noticed that IG’s social media sites don't get updated as frequently as it needs. Posting at least once a day would prove to be enough; people don't like being over fed with news. Posting around peak times, when the most amount of people are on a particular platform would be ideal. The ideal time to post on Facebook would be between 9 AM to 7 PM during a regular workweek, 1 PM and 3 PM are the peak times for “shares” and “likes”. Twitter’s peak time is noon, and between 5 PM and 6 PM in a regular workweek. Posting at these times raises the chances of other people actually seeing IG’s posts and bringing in more traffic towards IG.
