Following the success of the GDP study group, we were able to continue the services of Swami Tanmaya from Narayana Gurukulam, Kerala, India, who has been regularly guiding us through our weekly classes (Sundays 8.30 am -10.00 am)conducted remotely via skype. We are much grateful to Swami Tanmaya for his continued support and guidance. The discussions were primarily based on ‘The Word of The Guru’, written by Sree Narayana Guru’s disciple Nataraja Guru. The group members subsequently presented some chapters at monthly prayer meetings. We have now started discussions on the chapters of the book, Autobiography of an Absolutist, which was written by Nataraja Guru about his own life. We thank Mr Subash Sadasivan and Mr Sanal Madhavan for their dedicated efforts in managing the orderly conduct of the above classes. The study group in association with Guruprabha presented a short play ‘Brotherhood’ as part of the Guru Jayanthi celebrations. The play was written and directed by Mrs Saleena Sadasivan, with guidance from Swami Tanmaya. The play was based on the 4th chapter, Brotherhood, of the ‘Word of the Guru’, book written by Nataraja Guru. The drama depicted the relationship within families and difference in views between generations and culture. The success of the play has been the product of hard work and dedication by everyone in the team especially Mr Subash Sadasivan. The cast included: Manoj Siva, Pravin Vijay, Satheesh Kumar, Geeja Srilal, Shalini Sajeev, Mallika Rajan and Subash Sadasivan. We greatly appreciate their dedication and hard work. We are also grateful for the generosity of main sponsor of the play, Mr Narendran Gangadharan and other sponsors. We also were blessed by Swami Jana Nanma of Santhigiri ashram who attended our prayer in November and inspired audience with his speech. We would like to thank Mr Sugesh Bhaskaran and Dr Ajish from Santhigiri UK, who helped arranging this. We have also embarked on planning a new project, Sree Sivagiri Sharada Devi Pooja, which is a special prayer meeting, to be conducted by Mr Pravin Vijay, under the guidance of Swami Tanmaya, to be held at the Mission centre (East Ham) once every three months, on the 3rd Sunday of the month, commencing Sunday 19th February 2017. Project Manager - Mr Muraleedharan Vidyadharan.

Croydon Centre Manager: Mr. Suresh Dharmarajan

We organised a much successful charity fund raising event in January 2016 to re-energise the fund-raising and promote the SNGM building project for Croydon. The highlight included a musical extravaganza by artists Vivekanandan, Vrinda Shameek, Manoj, Praseetha & Sreekumar from Kerala, supported by Vinod Navadhara and Santhosh Nambiar (MAUK-NISARI). The event started with a full length Drama “Gurudevan” by Guruprabha directed by Mr Narayanan, Mr Abhilash & Mr Vijayakumar. We thank all artists who supported the drama, for their invaluable contribution. We also thank Mr Sreekumar (Anand Media) for recording and telecasting this entire event on Anand TV. We would like specifically thank Mr Prasad Gangadharan, coordinator of the event who was instrumental in making this happen. We thank all the key sponsors - Mr Prasad Gangadharan, Mr Suresh Dharmarajan, Mr Nasirbabu Bhaskaran, Mr Shiju Sasankan, Mr Sunil Narayanan & Mr Sabulal (Thalam properties). We also thank Mr T. Haridas (Kerala group of restaurants) KCWA, KCWA Trust and Sangeetha of UK for their support.

The Croydon EC team also challenged themselves in bringing in a lot of additional monthly direct debit contributions from members and well-wishers, specifically for the building project (around £350 a month). We have negotiated with Thalam properties to secure a rental property to open an office space, which we are hoping to get operative by February 2017. We would like to thank Mrs Sabulal (Thalam Properties) for his generosity and Mr Kishorkumar who has been championing the negotiations. We look forward for support of our members and well-wishers in Croydon with the daily operation of this centre once this is opened. For the success of the project we need unity, generous support and commitment from all the members in Croydon in particular, and all Mission members in general. Without this it is not possible to complete this project successfully.

7. Building Management Chair Person: Mr P Arun

Vice-Chair: Mr Suresh Gangadharan

The Building Management committee continued to undertake regular maintenance work over the year to safeguard the strength, safety and cleanliness of our Mission building. In order to ensure the safety of the attendees we reviewed and updated the Fire safety system of the building by the Registered Agency according to the Government safety requirements. Team re-placed couple of toilets and also sorted flooding in cellar. Risk assessment and building Fire & Safety requirements have been updated and shared to council.

1. General maintenance We conducted a cleaning day and cleared clutter and rubbish that has accumulated in the cellar and the upstairs rooms over the past few years. We also cleared lot of the cabinets and securely discarded old files and documentations. In addition we also conducted regular Fire safety checks and maintained Fire Alarm system according to Government requirements.

The day-to-day affairs of the Mission’s building were well managed by Mr G Sureshkumar, in the capacity of premises managers. We express our gratitude for their valuable services. We would like to specially thank Mr Jose Vishwambaran for their timely support over the year with various activities.

Vice-Chair: Mr Binoye Pillai

FSC met once at the start of the current EC to draft a budget plan and prioritisation exercise. A draft budget, both income and expenses, was developed at the meeting highlighting the importance of efficiency savings wherever possible to improve surplus during the term of this current EC and beyond. Main area identified for such savings as Education. The following proposals were made; however we could not effectively action this, and look forward to support incoming EC to progress this. The main suggestions include: A guideline for team leaders as a start this year as some of the objectives may not be achievable this year but

could be achieved in the coming years.

Adopt efficiency savings mainly in areas which bring most of our revenue, e.g. Education and Membership.

The East ham Education surplus, excluding hall rent, was more than the overall in 2015 SNGM surplus. Going forward, further progress can be made through efficiency savings.

Membership and contribution collections require new push as this can bring in substantial income without which much needed maintenance, and capital item purchases would be difficult in the coming years.

Utility bills and other maintenance costs may be covered by hall rent received from Education and external sources. But other capital costs should be met by other sources of income, probably as contributions through standing orders from members and non-members.

It is important to conduct arts events and tours that can generate income.

Breakdown of figures for the year: Total expected income for the year was £114,650, and expenditure £85,150. Final accounts showed that only less than 5% reduction in income this year compared to the forecast amount. However our expenditure increased by 13% compared to the forecast.

Medium or large grants did not materialise manly due to the fact our previous final accounts show substantial funds in reserve. Following recommendations on best accounting and reporting practices, it has been agreed that the capital and operating budgets should be separated to show the real reserves. This will help us to show budget allocation for specific purposes, under restricted and unrestricted funds in our annual accounts. An army of volunteers gave up their time to support all our activities, to achieving the goals set out for this year. It wouldn't have been possible without their relentless support. This means voluntary hours’ (excluding any travel time spent) worth about £52K were contributed during 2016(refer the graph).

Mr Vijayan also helped us with managing the finances for the family funday as finance controller on behalf of all 3 organisations (SNGM of the UK, MAUK and KCA).

Youth group worked with the GDP team delivering some presentations about Guru’s teachings which helped young people to gain more knowledge about the Guru’s Universal principles.
