Halloween SpooktacularA Safe Communities Halloween Event

Cathedral City’s Halloween Spooktacular features trick or treating with over 30,000 pieces of candy! Join friends, neighbors and family for a Spooktacular time including activities such as Halloween costume contests (two bikes given away each hour), police and fire exhibitions, music, family games, LifeStream Blood Drive, and the “Bus of Horrors” by SunLine Transit Agency. Sponsored by the City of Cathedral City, Cathedral City Police Department, Cathedral City Fire Department, and La Michoacana Ice Cream Parlor and Candy Store. Come hungry as A Liberty Catering will be there to serve lunch for purchase. Halloween Spooktacular provides you with information about the police and fire departments, to view special demonstrations, and get to know the men and women who serve you on a daily basis. Free admission. Free parking.

At 3:00 p.m., the Mary Pickford Theatre will offer a free movie, “Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride”. Limited Seating. Tickets available that day at the Mary Pickford Box Office starting at 11:00 a.m. Maximum of 4 tickets per adult.


Donations Needed:The Rotary needs to buy or replace about 1,000 flags for the display. If you would like to adopt a fallen soldier flag display so that each soldier has his/her own flag and name tag attached, then go to ACE Hardware in Cathedral City at the corner of 30th Avenue and Date Palm Drive and adopt a fallen soldier flag display for $25.00. Each kit includes the flag, rebar, pole, name tag, and funds to support the project. All flags are proudly made in America. Your donation is tax deductible. Let’s make sure our American soldiers are never forgotten.

“Healing Field” is a tribute to the men and women of uniform who gave the ultimate sacrifice to our country while serving in the military. The event is organized by the Cathedral City Rotary and sponsored by the City of Cathedral City.

Located in Patriot Park next to Big League Dreams Sports Park at the corner of Date Palm Drive and Dinah Shore Drive, “Healing Field” begins with Opening Ceremonies on Saturday, November 9th at 9:00 a.m., followed by the reading of the names and a static display of more than 6,900 American flags representing the fallen heroes. Closing Ceremonies occur on Saturday, November 16th at noon.

Effective July 24, 2019, Ordinance #825 was adopted by the City Council to establish a moratorium

on issuing new Business License applications for Short-term Vacation Rental (STVR) permits.

The City Council authorized the STVR Task Force to study the program. The first meeting occurred on July 15, 2019 with monthly meetings planned. The Task Force will be reviewing and analyzing the program in these three areas:• Regulation • Enforcement • Density

Once the Task Force has completed their work, recommendation(s) will be made to the City Council for review. Once the City Council has taken action, a decision will be made regarding the moratorium.

During the moratorium, the following types of applications will be accepted and processed:• New Business License and STVR Permit Application for a property in a Homeowners Association with an HOA letter authorizing the STVR • Renewal of an existing Business License and STVR permit

➤ LANDSCAPING: All landscape shall be maintained in healthy condition by proper irrigation, trimming, edging and removing weeds. Dead plants should be removed and replaced. Landscaping should not block sidewalks.

➤ OUTSIDE STORAGE: Items including but not limited to, furniture, household items, yard and cleaning equipment, tools, building materials, vehicle parts, tires, appliances must be kept out of public view.

➤ PARKING: Vehicles are required to be parked on the existing driveway or approved surface. Parking on landscaping, grass, dirt, pavers, blocks, or a vacant lot is not allowed.

➤ INOPERATIVE VEHICLES: Vehicles that are unlicensed, wrecked, abandoned or in disrepair may not be stored in public view.

➤ TRASH CONTAINERS: Containers and bins may not be stored in front or side yards visible to the public or neighboring properties and must be put away within 12 hours after service.

➤ COMMERCIAL VEHICLE PARKING: In residential neighborhoods, one commercial vehicle of not more than 10,000 pounds may be parked on the driveway or other approved surface per property. Overnight parking on the street is prohibited.

Cathedral City PRIDE is a neighborhood focus program aimed at improving our neighborhoods by working in partnership with property owners and area residents to instill a sense of pride in where we live; to clean up neighborhoods, and to make certain that communities are in compliance with City Codes, which in turn protects the community from blight and contributes to a healthy and safe environment.

On your trash and recycling pickup day: Simply place your bulky items at the curb by 6:00 a.m. just like your normal refuse.

Place the items at least 5 feet from your nearest refuse or recycling cart.

In order to collect the large volume of bulky items place at the curb each week, the City and Burrtec ask that you follow the procedures below.

Code Compliance Tips:GARBAGE CONTAINERS: Garbage containers must be stored behind your fence out of public view within 12 hours after curb service. They should not be seen from the street or neighboring properties.

BULKY ITEMS: Keep your sidewalks free of discarded household items such as furniture, appliances, TV’s and other items. Bulky Items are only allowed to be placed out at the curb on your scheduled trash day.

for the removal of turf from residential properties.

Residents can receive funds from the water agency as well as the City.

If you are deemed ineligible for CVWD or DWA’s program you are still eligible to receive funds from the

City’s WaterSmart Landscapes Grant Program.

Cathedral City WaterSmart Landscape Grant Program

Cathedral City WaterSmart Landscape Grant Program was created to educate, encourage and assist residents of Cathedral City with the conversion of their current lush (green) landscaping to a more drought tolerant landscaping, ultimately utilizing water more efficiently and reducing the amount of water run-off in our city. Reducing water run-off has the added benefit of protecting both your family and neighbors from West Nile virus, by limiting water sources where mosquitoes like to breed. The program helps property owners convert water-thirsty grass to xeriscape, a lush yet water-efficient landscape in the front yards of residential properties. Qualifying projects should include the following:

• Removal of grass located in the front yard and replacement with drought tolerant landscaping.

• Removal or relocation of sprinkler system so that it only services turf and drought tolerant planting and does not spill over onto sidewalks or streets.

Residents that qualify will receive dollar for dollar match up to a maximum of $500 per property. In order to receive reimbursement, you will be required to obtain final approval of the work from the Environmental Conservation Manager and submit receipts. Grants will be awarded to qualified residents on a first come first served basis.

One (1) TakeAway™ envelope holds up to 9 or 10 regular sized prescription bottles. If one envelope is not enough or if you need more envelopes in the future, please place another order.

• Once the envelope is full, drop it off at the post office or nearby postal dropbox.

• It’s that simple and there is no cost to participate in this program.

Option 1: Sharps Disposal by Mail Program

• Submit a request for a Sharps Disposal by Mail™ postcard.

• Take the postcard to one of the participating pharmacy’s listed on postcard.

• The pharmacy will give you a specially designed Sharps container for your needle disposal.

• Once the Sharps container is full, place it inside the provided shipping box and drop it off at the post office or nearby postal box.

• It’s that simple and there is no cost to participate in this program.

Option 2: Disposal Program at the Public Works Yard

• Need a Sharps container? Stop by the Public Works Yard on Tuesday between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to pick up a container.

WaterSmart Landscape

El Programa de Beca Cathedral City WaterSmart Landscape fue creado para educar, alentar y ayudar a los residentes de Cathedral City con la conversión de su jardinería actual (verde) a un jardín más tolerantes a la sequía, la utilización más eficiente del agua y reducir la cantidad de agua que se derrame en nuestra ciudad. El reducir agua que se rebosa ha aumentado al beneficio de proteger a ambos su familia y vecinos del Virus Nilo del Oeste, limitando la fuente de donde los mosquitos se reproducen. El programa ayuda a los propietarios residenciales convertir pastos sedientos en agua en las yardas del frente a un xeriscape, un jardín exuberante mas sin embargo eficiente en agua. Los proyectos que califiquen deben incluir lo siguiente:

• La eliminación del pasto situado en el patio del frente y su sustitución con un jardín tolerante a la sequía.

• Eliminación o traslado de sistema de rociadores de modo que sólo riegue plantas resistentes a la sequía y que el agua no se derrame en las aceras o calles.

Los residentes que califican recibirán dólar por dólar a un máximo de $ 500 por propiedad. Para recibir el reembolso, usted deberá obtener la aprobación final de la Manejador en Conservación Medioambiental y presentar los recibos. Las becas se otorgarán a los residentes que califiquen y en base al que llegue primero, se le atenderá primero.

El día que pasan a levantar su basura y reciclables: Simplemente los ponen la orilla de la banqueta en donde regularmente pone su basura antes de la 6:00 a.m.
