INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INDUSTRIAL LASER PROCESSING
The 2017 International Conference on Industrial
Processing (JNPLI) will occur on September 13-14th
, 2017
at the convention center in Strasbourg / France. JNPLI is a
major event dedicated to industrial laser technologies and
their advances. The JNPLI offers an overview of the latest
innovations and recently implemented laser applications.
The organizers of the JNPLI 2017 are: the CLUB LASER &
PROCÉDÉS (CLP), the EUROPEAN MATERIALS RESEARCH
SOCIETY (E-MRS) and IREPA LASER. This event is
supported by Icube and the University of Strasbourg.
The main topics for the conference will be related to:

L’édition 2017 des Journées Nationales des Procédés Laser
pour l’Industrie (JNPLI) se tiendra les 13 et 14 septembre 2017
au palais des congrès de Strasbourg / France. Les JNPLI
constitue un évènement incontournable dédié aux procédés
laser industriels et à leurs avancées. Elles proposent un tour
d’horizon des dernières innovations dans ce domaine.
Les JNPLI 2017 sont organisées par le CLUB LASER ET

Présentation des organisateurs des JNPLI 2017 : JNPLI 2017 organisers :
Le Club Laser et Procédés (CLP) développe des liens entre
les acteurs du domaine des procédés laser. Il fédère les
principaux spécialistes des procédés laser industriels au
niveau national : fournisseurs, utilisateurs, centres techniques
et de transfert de technologie, chercheurs du public/privé… Le
CLP assure la diffusion d’informations liées aux technologies
et aux procédés laser industriels, ainsi que l’animation d’un
réseau d’experts. Le CLP organise depuis plus de 25 ans les
JNPLI qui sont une solution efficace pour permettre aux
différents acteurs de cette technologie de se rencontrer.
L'European Materials Research Society (E-MRS) est une
société savante qui a été créée il y a 33 ans par Paul Siffert.
Avec plus de 3 200 membres, l’E-MRS se différencie de
nombreuses autres sociétés professionnelles à discipline
unique en encourageant les scientifiques, ingénieurs et
directeurs de recherche à échanger des informations sur une
plateforme interdisciplinaire. Chaque année, l’E-MRS organise
des conférences avec pour thèmes phares : les technologies
laser, les nano matériaux, les matériaux pour l’énergie, les bio
matériaux et les semi-conducteurs.
IREPA LASER est une société de recherche et
développement industriels, spécialisée dans les procédés
laser appliqués aux matériaux. IREPA LASER développe des
solutions industrielles d’ingénierie innovantes pour l’industrie,
les PME et grandes entreprises. 25% du budget de la société
est consacré à la recherche et développement propre en
fabrication additive CLAD®, soudage métallique et polymère,
fonctionnalisation de surfaces. IREPA LASER est membre de

The Club Laser & Procédés (CLP) develops links

Retour sur les JNPLI 2016 A look back at JNPLI 2016 :
110 participants se sont réunis à Liège (Belgique) pour échanger sur
la fabrication additive, le soudage métallique, le micro-usinage et la
texturation, l’usinage de matériaux transparents et la mise en forme
et délivrance du faisceau. Cette édition a été organisée en
partenariat avec le CEWAC, LASEA et SIRRIS les 28 et 29 juin 2016.
110 attendees gathered in Liège (Belgium) to discuss additive
manufacturing, metal welding, micro-machining & texturing,
transparent materials processing, advanced beam shaping &
delivery. This edition was organized in partnership with CEWAC,
LASEA and SIRRIS on the 28th and 29th June 2016.

Ömer ILDAY / Bilkent University / Turkey
Dr. F. Ömer Ilday is a professor at Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey. He took his PhD from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA, in
2004. He then worked at MIT, Cambridge, MA, USA until 2006, when he joined Bilkent University. He was the first to propose to
use Nonlinearity Management, which has led, most notably, to the invention of the similariton (Phys. Rev. Lett., 2004) and
soliton-similariton lasers (Nature Photon., 2010). Recently, he has been introducing the concept of Nonlinear Feedback-Driven
Laser-Material Interactions, which has already led to several striking advances (Nature Photon., 2013, Nature, 2016, Nature
Comm., 2017).
Martin WEGENER / KIT / Germany
After completing his PhD in physics in 1987 at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt (Germany), Martin Wegener spent
two years as postdoc at AT&T Bell Laboratories in Holmdel (U.S.A.). From 1990-1995 he was professor at Universität Dortmund
(Germany), since 1995 he is professor at Institute of Applied Physics of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Since 2001 he has
a joint appointment as department head at Institute of Nanotechnology of KIT, since 2016 he is Scientific Director. Awards
include the DFG Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Award 2000, the Carl Zeiss Research Award 2006, and Thompson Reuters listing as
“Highly Cited Researcher” in 2014-2016.
Jacques LALEVEE / IS2M-CNRS / France
Jacques Lalevée (IS2M) was born in Remiremont in 1976. After graduating from the University of Nancy, in 2002 he defended a
Ph.D. in the group of Jean Pierre Fouassier (ENSCMu Mulhouse) on photochemistry and photoinitiating systems. After a
postdoctoral position in Germany (Gerd Kothe), where his work was devoted to the study of free radicals by ESR spectroscopy,
he was appointed maître de conférences at ENSCMu in 2004. In 2009, he became a full professor and has been a junior member
of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF) since 2011. His current research interests encompass free radical chemistry, the
design of new photopolymerization initiating systems, new polymers (IPNs ...) and mechanistic elucidation in polymer chemistry.
Jacques Lalevée is (co)author of 275 peer review articles in international journals, 5 patents, 12 book chapters and two books (in
particular: Photoinitiators for Polymer Synthesis: Scope, Reactivity and Efficiency, Wiley-VCH, 2012). He got the G. Ourisson
award (2013), and the groupe français des polymères award (2014).

François COURVOISIER / Femto-ST / France
Dr Francois Courvoisier completed his Master’s degree in fundamental physics at Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan and
University of Orsay, France. He received his PhD degree from University of Lyon, France on the topics of filamentation of
femtosecond laser pulses and ultrafast spectroscopy. In 2005-2006 he carried out postdoctoral research in the Group of Applied
Physics-biophotonics, Geneva, Switzerland. In 2006 his joined CNRS at FEMTO-ST institute, France as permanent researcher and
he has developed novel research concerning femtosecond laser micro/nano-machining and nondiffracting beams. He was
awarded the Aimé Cotton Prize of the French Physical Society in 2015. He leads the ERC-Consolidator project PULSAR. He has
given 34 invited talks and short courses, published more than 40 papers in refereed journals, 58 conference contributions and
holds 3 patents.

Clemens HOENNINGER / Amplitude Systemes / France
Clemens Hönninger is Vice President Research & Development at Amplitude Systèmes. He studied Physics at the University of
Heidelberg, Germany, where he graduated in 1994. During his PhD thesis at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich
and his postdoctoral research position at the University of Bordeaux, France, he worked on the development of diode-pumped
femtosecond lasers based on Ytterbium-doped materials. He joined Amplitude Systèmes in 2002. Prior to this he gained
industrial experience as project leader at Trumpf Laser GmbH, Germany.
Thomas GRAF / IFSW - University of Stuttgart / Germany
Thomas Graf was born in Lugano, Switzerland, in 1966. He received the physics Diploma/M.Sc. degree in 1993 and the Ph.D. degree in 1996 from the University of Bern, Switzerland. As a post-doctoral research associate he was engaged in research on high-power solid-state lasers with high beam quality, beam-shaping for diode-laser bars, and thermodynamics of optical systems at the University of Bern until 1997. He then joined the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland (UK) where he was engaged in research on non-linear optics and passively mode-locked multi-Watt all-solid-state lasers. In April 1999 he was appointed head of the High-Power Lasers Group at the Laser Department of the Institute of Applied Physics, University of Bern (Switzerland) where he was awarded the venia docendi in 2001 and where he was nominated assistant professor in April 2002. In June 2004 he was appointed university professor and director of the Institut fuer Strahlwerkzeuge (IFSW) at the University of Stuttgart. He is engaged in high-power all-solid-state laser systems, laser beam shaping and laser applications in manufacturing. From October 2010 to February 2013 Prof. Graf was vice dean of the faculty of Engineering Design, Production Engineering and Automotive Engineering of the University of Stuttgart. Since February 2013 he is vice rector for Knowledge and Technology Transfer of the University of Stuttgart. In 2001 Prof. Graf was awarded the Knowledge-Transfer Prize (InnoBe AG and DC Bank, Bern) for the development of self-adaptive thermo-optical laser resonators and the NETS Prize (New Entrepreneurs in Technology and Science, Gebert-Rüf Foundation) for the engagement in technology transfer. In 1998 he received the Applied Physics Prize from the Swiss Physical Society and he was awarded the Physics Award of the Faculty of Science of the University of Berne for his dissertation in 1996. From 2001 to 2007 Prof. Graf served as a board member of the Swiss Society for Optics and Microscopy (SSOM), from 2008 to 2012 he was a board member of the European Optical Society (EOS), he is a board member of Photonics BW e.V., since 2016 as its chair. Further he is a member of the German Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft Lasertechnik e.V., WLT (Scientific Society for Laser Technology), since 2013 member of its board as vice president Engineering Sciences. Since 2009 Prof. Graf is a member and since April 2014 the chairman of the supervisory board of the Technologie-Lizenz-Büro der Baden-Württembergischen Hochschulen GmbH (TLB).
Marwan ABDOU AHMED / IFSW - University of Stuttgart / Allemagne
Dr. Marwan Abdou Ahmed received his “Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies” in 1999 and his PhD degree in 2003 from the
University of Saint-Etienne, France. In 2004, he joined the USTUTT, working mainly on the development of polarization and
wavelength selective optics for high-power solid-state lasers. Since June 2011, he is responsible for the “laser development and
laser optics” department at the IFSW. Mr. M Abdou Ahmed and his team are focusing on ultrafast high-power thin-disk laser
systems as well as on temporal and spatial beam shaping optics. M. Abdou Ahmed received his Habilitation degree for the
University Paris-Sud XI in May 2012. He has been engaged and has coordinated several national and EU-funded projects (e-g.
Ultrafast RAZipol, Tisa-TD, and Hiperdias).
Jan WINTER / Munich University of Applied Sciences / Germany
Jan Winter received his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Engineering Physics at the Munich University of Applied Sciences in the
year 2012. There he continued studying photonics and received his M.Sc. in the year 2015. He is currently working as scientist in
the Lasercenter Munich University as a PhD student. The goal of his work is to investigate “THE MECHANISMS OF LASER
ABLATION WITH TIME-RESOLVED PUMP-PROBE ELLIPSOMETRIC EXPERIMENTS AND SIMULATIONS” for a deeper understanding
of laser pulse absorption at femtosecond and picosecond laser pulse and its influence on the laser ablation efficiency.
