    Doing Christmas Right

    Wednesday, December 23 – Friday, December 25

It is safe to say that nobody does Christmas quite like WCLV 104.9. On December 23 at 8pm, tune in for a presentation of A Soulful Christmas, which celebrates non-idiomatic Black classical music and choral traditions. Also, look for other holiday specials including Handel’s Messiah and performances by The Cleveland Orchestra. Finally, beginning at noon on Christmas Eve and running through Christmas Day, WCLV 104.9 will present its annual Christmas Festival of Music.

    Masterpiece: Sanditon Marathon

    Sunday, December 20 & 27 from 7 – 11pm

Masterpiece: Sanditon returns to WVIZ/PBS this December! If you missed the original broadcast, now is the perfect time to binge-watch this Jane Austen miniseries. Divided between two Sunday evenings, the marathon will feature the first four episodes on December 20 and the final four episodes on December 27. Experience Austen’s last, fragmented work, where strangers come together at a struggling resort in early 1800s England.

With Good Reason: Roses in December

    Tuesday, December 1 at 10pm

In this edition of With Good Reason, hear the story of Sarah Patton “Pattie” Boyle and her transformation from segregationist to ardent desegregationist in mid-20th century Virginia. This episode will also explore how Black Virginians built their own institutions during the Jim Crow era. African American opera singer Camilla Williams and activist Ned Coll are featured, as well. Author Andrew Karhl examines Coll’s campaign to open New England’s shoreline to African Americans and more.

    FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS

    Sunday, December 13 at 8pm

This year, Hanukkah arrives on the evening of Thursday, December 10. On Sunday, December 13, WCLV 104.9 will celebrate the happiest of Jewish holidays with a special presentation titled Candles Burning Brightly.

This one-hour exploration of the Festival of Lights will cover traditions, food and plenty of music. Plus, Theodore Bikel reads Howard Schwartz’s The Lost Menorah. Hosted by Mindy Ratner of Minnesota Public Radio.

    SHOW YOUR LOVE FOR LUDWIG

    Wednesday, December 16

This month marks Beethoven’s 250th birthday! WCLV 104.9 invites you to celebrate this milestone by sending your requests for your favorite Beethoven works. This is a fantastic way to “show your love for Ludwig” as WCLV 104.9 presents as much Beethoven as possible in a single day’s programming — as requested by you!

To participate, please email your request to [email protected]. Make sure to share why you like the work you’re requesting and why Beethoven is important to you.

Want to receive monthly WCLV 104.9 programming and event news via email? Sign up for the monthly e-newsletter at ideastream.org/email.

  • We ask our children questions all the time. Children are used to answering these types of questions and can answer them easily. However, there are some questions that require more thinking-power than others. We call them engaging questions and they help get your children talking about their ideas.

Asking engaging questions has a few purposes. First, when we ask our children these questions, we learn about what they are figuring out and what they understand. The second purpose of asking questions is that our children learn from being

questioned. When children hear a question, they have to think about how to answer. Then, they take that new understanding to their next experience.
