Plenary Talk WM-1 (Wednesday, July 4th, 09:30h – 10:30h, Room: ATENAS

Speaker: Prof. Humberto Bustince (Public University of Navarra, Pamplona, Spain)

Title: Generalized CF1,F2 integrals and their application to image processing and classification AbstractIn this talk we present a generalization (CF1,F2) of the Choquet integral which take advantage from the distributive of the product to replace it by appropriate functions allowing for a nonlinear definition of the integral. We analyze some properties and we show how this new definition can be applied in several problems. In particular, we show how it can be used in classification to get a new fuzzy rule based classification system which behaves at the state-of-the-art one, and in image processing to develop a new class of edge detectors which are easy to implement but provide very competitive results.

Plenary Talk WM-2 (Wednesday, July 4th, 11:00h – 12:00h, Room: ATENAS

Speaker: Prof. Laécio Carvalho de Barros (University of Campinas, Brazil)

Title: On Fuzzy DerivativeAbstractBy modeling an evolutionary process from an initial condition, we are considering that the process has a “memory”, that is, the future value is correlated with the present value at each instant. Fuzzy functions that consider this type of interaction are called autocorrelated fuzzy processes. In particular, when the future value is linearly correlated with the present value at each instant, we say that the fuzzy process is linearly correlated. The concept of the derivative of a function at a point is local and there are at least two distinct ways of doing it. One by means of approximation of the processes by straight lines in a neighborhood of this point, such as Leibniz-Fréchet derivative of these fuzzy processes. Another way is via the arithmetic of fuzzy numbers, more precisely, via the difference of the process between different instants, as the temporal increment goes to zero. This technique fits into the Newtonian approach. We focus on this last case, presenting some arithmetic that are characterized in two manners: from interval arithmetic and from arithmetic for interactive fuzzy (that is, via joint possibility distribution). We present a theory of fuzzy equations for this type of process, highlighting its main results. As we shall see, all derivatives that appear in the literature for fuzzy function are interactive. Nevertheless, many authors do not take this into account when adopting numerical methods to solve a Fuzzy Initial Value Problem (FIVP). Finally, we discuss the use of some fuzzy interactive derivatives in a population dynamics model.

Plenary Talk WA (Wednesday, July 4th, 15:40h – 16:40h, Room: ATENAS

Speaker: Prof. João Paulo Carvalho (University of Lisbon, Portugal)

Title: Recommender Systems: Using Fuzzy Fingerprints for "Proper" Recommendations AbstractMost Recommender Systems rely exclusively on ratings and are known as Memory-based Collaborative Filtering systems. This is the currently dominant approach outside of academia due to the low implementation effort and service maintenance, when compared with more complex Model-based approaches, Traditional Memory-based systems have as their main goal to predict ratings, using similarity metrics to determine similarities between the users’ (or items) rating patterns. In this talk, we propose a user-based Fuzzy Collaborative Filtering approach that does not rely on rating prediction, instead leveraging on Fuzzy Fingerprints to create a novel similarity based recommendation approach. Fuzzy Fingerprints provide a concise and compact representation of users allowing the reduction of the dimensionality usually associated with user-based collaborative filtering.

Speaker: Prof. Yurilev Chalco Cano (Universidad de Tarapacá, Arica, Chile)

Title: Fuzzy Mathematical Analysis and Applications AbstractSince the space of all fuzzy numbers endowed with the standard interval arithmetic (SIA) is a quasilinear space, it is not natural to extend or apply the results of mathematical analysis into fuzzy context. Moreover, it is well-known that SIA may overestimate the length of the resultant interval due tothe phenomenon of interval dependence. Since fuzzy interval arithmetic operations are fundamental in fuzzy mathematical analysis, other arithmetic are considered. In addition, some concepts, such as differentiability for interval-value functions, where it is crucial to consider a difference between fuzzy intervals, may present shortcomings if are formulated by means of SIA. In order to avoid some shortcomings caused by the phenomenon of interval dependency some additional difference operations are introduced such as the Hukuhara difference and most recently generalized Hukuhara difference. This talk presents some recent advances in fuzzy mathematical analysis, in particular, those based on new properties of fuzzy-valued functions obtained by using fuzzy arithmetic. Lastly, we discuss some emergent problems in fuzzy optimization and fuzzy differential equations.

Plenary Talk TA (Thursday, July 5th, 15:40h – 16:40h, Room: ATENAS

Speaker: Prof. Baker Kearfott (University of Luoisiana at Lafayette, Lafayette, USA)

Title: Interval Mathematics, Philosophy, Fundamentals, and Applications: Connections to and Contrast with Fuzzy Set Theory AbstractThe fundamental problem of interval computations is, given a real-valued function f (x1, . . . , xn) of n variables defined on a hyper-rectangle (interval vector) x = {(x1, . . . , xn) : xi ≤ xi ≤ xi, 1 ≤ i ≤ n}, efficiently compute useful bounds on the range of f over x. In fuzzy computations, x represents a set of α-cuts of inputs, f represents the relation between the inputs and an output, and the range of f over x represents the corresponding α-cut of the output. We begin by reviewing the basic premises of interval arithmetic, including operations and pitfalls. We outline the diverse goals of the interval mathematics community. We then point out how interval arithmetic is commonly used in fuzzy computations. To conclude, we contrast the types of problems and underlying philosophies behind interval mathematics and fuzzy set theory.

Title: Different fuzzy algorithms in monitoring, detection and control of processesAbstract: In this talk different fuzzy and fuzzy evolving algorithms will be presented and explained. The use of fuzzy algorithms will be shown in monitoring and control examples and examples from autonomous mobile systems. An example of successful use of interval fuzzy model will be shown in the case of indoor localization system based on fingerprint principles and realized on smart phones. The proposed algorithm gives an improved precision of localization and is also computationally very effective. In mobile robotics, localiza-tion plays the key role in most applications. In most cases advanced sensor systems are required to estimate the robot pose, mostly due to the fact that there is no single and effective sensor that would directly measure the robot pose in indoor environment. A very popular sensor for this purpose is a laser range finder (LRF), which has good coverage, dense information, high accuracy and a high sampling rate. It can be used for localization purposes, map building or SLAM. Using a LRF the robot pose can be estimated by comparing a locally sensed map given by a cloud of reflection points and a known map of the environment. This comparison is usually made by comparing simple geometric features that are extracted from the LRF reflection points. In this talk a new approach, which is based on evolving paradigm, called evolving principal component clustering is applied to the laser data stream. The main reason for implementing the evolving algorithm is the unknown number of features and an on-line nature of the problem. It enables good perfor-mance, robust operation, low computational complexity and simple implementation on embedded computers. The evolving fuzzy systems can be also efficiently used in monitoring and fault detection in different processes. The implementation of evolving fuzzy detection systems will be shown for air-conditioning system and in the case of detecting the drives action during his driving based on simple signals which are usually measured in the car. At the end the development of robust evolving could-based controller and the implementation in some practical cases will be shown.
