196ihuvuj Michael Anthony Crockett was born on November 6, 1944, just after his twin sister, Karen, at Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington, DC, He was the second youngest child of Vera and Russell Crockett's eight children. He departed this life on May 29, 2011.

Mike graduated from Lucretia Mott Elementary School, Banneker Junior High School, McKinley High School, and attended Federal City College. He and his wife, Janet, began dating in their sophomore year at McKinley High School. They were married in 1965 and raised three children, Michael, Brian, and Kristen. Lovingly referred to as Mr. Crockett, Mr. C, or Coach Crockett, Mike was known for his role as the soccer coach for both of his sons and many of the neighborhood kids in Shepherd Park.

Having grown up in a musical family, Mike surrounded himself by music. He filled the house with the sounds of everything from Scott Jarrett to Quincy Jones to Dave Matthews. His mix tapes featured songs from WHUR's The Quiet Storm, and always took center stage at any party. It was not uncommon to hear him creating melodies using his mouth, hands, or feet, or whistling tunes around the house. In the Air Force, he sang in a group. He also wrote and sang songs for his church.

Mike could use his hands to fix almost anything and was an airplane mechanic in the Air Force from 1964 to 1968. After leaving the service, Mike worked for the telephone company and went on to establish a telephone installation company, called Micro Communications. In 1999, after more than thirty years of service, he retired from Xerox as a technician and customer service representative.

Mike had a great sense of humor, loved practical jokes, and had a huge, infectious laugh. He went out of his way to help others and he loved all people, whether they cleaned houses or designed them. He was also a gifted writer with beautiful handwriting to compliment his talent. Mike was deeply involved in his church as a Deacon and had an unwavering belief in God.

Mike will be deeply missed. He leaves behind his wife, Janet; his children, Michael Crockett, Jr., Brian (Prince Maleque) and Kristen; his siblings, Barbara, Ronald (Brenda), Joyce (Harold), Russell (Angela), Patricia (Willie), Karen (Wallace) and Stephen (Joan); several nieces and nephews, other loving and cherished friends.
