ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHTAnnie Baker grew up in Amherst, Massachusetts. Her full-length plays include Body Awareness (Atlantic Theater Company, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for Best Play/Emerging Playwright), Circle Mirror Transformation (Playwrights Horizons, OBIE Award for Best New American Play, Drama Desk nomination for Best Play), The Aliens (Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, OBIE Award for Best New American Play), and Nocturama. Her work has also been developed and produced at New York Theatre Workshop, MCC, Soho Rep, the Orchard Project, the Ontological-Hysteric, Ars Nova, the Huntington, South Coast Rep, the Magic Theater, the Cape Cod Theatre Project, the Bay Area Playwrights Festival, and the Sundance Institute Theatre Lab in Utah and Ucross, Wyoming. Annie is a member of New Dramatists, MCC’s Playwrights Coalition, and EST, and an alumna of Youngblood, Ars Nova’s Play Group, and the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab. Recent honors include a New York Drama Critics Circle Special Citation, a Susan Smith Blackburn Prize nomination, a Time Warner Storytelling Fellowship, a MacDowell Fellowship, and commissions from Center Theatre Group and Playwrights Horizons. MFA, Mac Wellman’s playwriting program at Brooklyn College.

Jay T. Becker (Schultz) has been involved in the Central Florida Theatre scene for the last 20 years, and been with Mad Cow since it’s inception. Most recently, he acted as Assistant Director in last season’s productions of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead as well as Shipwrecked! An Entertainment and was last seen onstage in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. This marks Jay’s 24th production with the Cows. He can also be seen at all the theme parks in the area. Thanks to Mike and Mitzi and the entire cast and crew. And especially to Nikki for being the best part of his life. Lobe.

Jolie Hart (Lauren) is beyond thrilled to be making her Mad Cow debut in Circle Mirror Transformation! A soon-to-be UCF graduate, her favorite past theater credits include Peter Pan, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, My Illustrious Wasteland (Original Cast/Beth Marshall Presents), Hair (SSC), and Assassins (SSC). She has also participated in Orlando Fringe, Playfest, and is the lead singer in the local Orlando alt-rock band, Backstage Romance. Immense thanks go out to Mike, Tod, and her amazing family and friends who, through it all, support her unconditionally.

Rebekah Lane (Theresa) is a master of many trades. She is a performer, puppeteer, grant writer, and program manager for MicheLee Puppets. She also teaches public speaking at UCF. Rebekah toured the state for three years with the EXTREME Health Challenge as a game show host. Most recently you’ve seen Rebekah as Susan in Company and in the Ensemble of Mad Cow’s Sweeney Todd. She is thrilled to continue her work with The Herd!

Michael Marinaccio (Director) has been performing with Mad Cow Since it’s debut season in 1998, when he played Hally in Master Harold... and the Boys. Since then, he has become a regular in the pasture, as an actor, teacher, and most recently as a director for I Have Before Me A Remarkable Document Given To Me By A Young Lady From Rwanda, Love Song, and The Heiress. His 12 total Mad Cow credits include Mary’s Wedding, Pericles, The Heidi Chronicles, and G.B. Shaw’s Candida and Major Barbara. Michael is a graduate of UCF with a BFA in Theatre Performance, and has studied in New York with Tony Award winner Betty Buckley.

Erin Miner (Lighting Design) Circle Mirror Transformation marks Erin’s 52nd show with Mad Cow Theatre. She is very excited to be working with Michael again. When not wandering the pastures of Mad Cow, she can be found in the fields of Apopka High School as a drama teacher.

Mark Edward Smith (James) has been a part of Mad Cow Theatre since our very first season, starting with Blithe Spirit (where he also played husband to Marty Stonerock). He has been seen in over a dozen productions on our various stages in our various homes, most recently appearing as Dr. Sloper in The Heiress.

Marty Stonerock (Marty) has been with Mad Cow since Season 1 and this marks her 12th production in the pasture! Past Mad Cow credits are: Superior Donuts, Blithe Spirit, On the Verge, The Cherry Orchard, Anton in Show Business, Les Liasons Dangereuses, Arcadia, Humble Boy, Present Laughter, The Seagull & Major Barbara. Elsewhere in Central Florida she has performed at Bay Street Players, Play The Moment, Empty Spaces, and The Ice House. Marty has studied in NYC (Atlantic Theater, New Actor’s Workshop) but frankly found her 11 years as an ICU nurse the best lab to observe human behavior. Bob and Chelsea: “I love you deeply.”

Grayson Tate (Costume Design) is joining Mad Cow for her third production. Grayson graduated from Auburn University with her Bachelors in Science in Apparel Merchandising, Design, and Production Management. She is Costume Shop Manager at the Orlando REP.

John Valines (Audio Design) is the 6th member and “Sound Guy” for Toxic Audio who won the Drama Desk award in 2004 during their off-Broadway run. He’s also currently the Technical Director for Sak Comedy Lab. John has had the pleasure of working with Stages Repertory, the Colorado Festival of World Theatre, Orlando Fringe, Florida Studio Theatre, The Orlando REP, Impact Productions and the Orlando Shakespeare Theatre. John also hosts the popular podcast, Radio Rickshaw for rickshawboy.com.

FREUD’S VIEWS ON RELIGIONThroughout his life Freud grappled with the problem of mythology, spiritual feeling, religious institutions and the basis of morality. His writing on the subject is only half the story. Many of the antiquities he collected are religious objects of one sort or another, intended to pacify the gods with which men have surrounded their lives, or to ensure immortality in another life. His collection of Rennaissance prints and photographs brought back from ‘pilgrimages’ to Italy, are testament to a deep and abiding fascination with the Catholic faith he often denounced as ‘the enemy’.

Freud must have been impressed by the universal nature of religious phenomena, being on the interface between the biological and social realms. No doubt he suspected that religion, like literature, articulated in a disguised way some of the psychological truths he discovered in his own work. It could even be argued that the confrontation with religion was a spur to the development of psychoanalysis itself:

“In point of fact I believe that a large part of the mythological view of the world, which extends a long way into the most modern religions, is nothing but psychology projected into the external world. The obscure recognition... of psychical factors and relations in the unconscious is mirrored - it is difficult to express it in other terms, and here the analogy with paranoia must come to our aid - in the construction of a supernatural reality, which is destined to be changed back once more by science into the psychology of the unconscious. One could venture to explain in this way the myths of paradise and the fall of man, of God, of good and evil, of immortality, and so on, and to transform metaphysics into metapsychology.”

FREUD’S LAST SESSION Casey Hanners (Stage Manager) recently moved back to the Orlando area and is thrilled to be working with Mad Cow Theatre. Originally from Phoenix, AZ, she received her BFA in Stage Management from the University of Arizona. She’s had the opportunity to freelance with multiple theatres in Arizona and is looking forward to building a strong relationship within the Orlando theatre community. This summer she will be taking a break from stage management to work as the company manager for the Dorset Theatre Festival in Dorset, VT, but will then be coming back to Orlando to see what life has in store. She’d like to thank Mike, Karen and little Anna Banana for being amazing friends putting a roof over her head while she’s in Florida.

Steven Lane (C.S. Lewis) is thrilled to tread the boards again at Mad Cow, where he was last seen as Morris in The Heiress and Geoffrey in The Lion in Winter. Outside of Mad Cow he’s played a wide range of roles including Che (Evita), Cornelius (Hello Dolly), Sky (Guys and Dolls), Danny (Grease), Mordred (Camelot), Lumiere (Disney’s Beauty and the Beast), El Gallo (The Fantasticks), Sir Evelyn (Anything Goes), Rooster (Annie), Seymour (Little Shop of Horrors), Harold Bride (Titanic), The Wolf (Into the Woods), Motel (Fiddler on the Roof) and Michael (I Do, I Do). Mark St. Germain (playwright) has written the plays Camping With Henry and Tom (Outer Critics Circle Award and Lucille Lortel Award), Out of Gas on Lovers Leap, and Forgiving Typhoid Mary (Time Magazine’s “Year’s Ten Best”) , Ears on a Beatle and The God Committee. With Randy Courts, he has written the musicals The Gifts of the Magi, Johnny Pye and the Foolkiller, winner of an AT&T “New Plays For The Nineties Award”, both produced at the Lamb’s Theater, NYC. Jack’s Holiday was produced at Playwrights Horizons. Mark’s musical, Stand By Your Man, The Tammy Wynette Story was created for Nashville’s Ryman Theater and has toured nationally. He most recently co-wrote the libretto for Charles Strouse’s American Tragedy. Mark co-wrote the screenplay for Carroll Ballard’s Warner Brothers film, Duma. He most recently directed and co-produced the documentary, My Dog, An Unconditional Love Story. “My Dog” features Richard Gere, Lynn Redgrave and Glenn Close among many others. It will be shown on the new Oprah Winfrey Network and a spinoff is currently being filmed for A&E/BIO. Television credits include Writer and Creative Consultant for The Cosby Show, Life Stories and Dick Wolf’s Crime and Punishment. Mark wrote the children’s book Three Cups, illustrated by April Willy. He is an alumnus of New Dramatists, where he was given the Joe A. Callaway Award, a member of the Dramatists Guild, the Writer’s Guild East and a Board Member of the Barrington Stage Company. He
