On behalf of Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology and the organizing committee, it is an honour and pleasure, to welcome all participants to the 1st Process System Engineering and Safety (ProSES) Symposium 2019, held at the Vistana Hotel, Kuantan.

In this symposium, the theme “The Role of Modelling and Simulation Towards Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0)” was chosen which is aligned with the current Malaysia’s vision to become a developed nation which is equitable, sustainable and inclusive by 2025 or even earlier. The emergence of IR 4.0 technology provides the opportunity for dramatically increasing the reliability and efficiency in production operations of many industrial sectors including chemical-based processing.

This one-day symposium is aimed to gather intellectuals from various fields to share the knowledge and discuss the recent trends and current issues in the fields of mod-elling and simulation, process control and optimization related to chemical engineer-ing. It is also served as a platform to initiate research collaboration network among participants with similar research interests from around the world.

In ProSES Symposium 2019, the technical committee has successfully obtained the privilege to publish the conference papers in IOP Conference Series: Materials Sci-ence and Engineering (Scopus indexed) and JCEIB (indexed journal).

Our wish is that you will enjoy this conference and take back with you knowledge,

experiences, contacts and happy memories of this 1st ProSES Symposium 2019. Last

but not least, we are most grateful for your participation and support.

Ir. Dr. Mohd Bijarimi bin Mat Piah Dean Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang

Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang is honoured to host this inaugural symposium and to receive speakers, delegates and participants who come from all over the world, especially from dif-ferent university in Malaysia to share their thoughts and findings on the future prospects of Process Systems Engineering and Safety (ProSES).

It is my firm belief that because Malaysia is among the countries forging ahead with the IR 4.0, this is the key motivating factor to the organizing committee to endeavour this first edition and Insha-Allah, future editions of the symposium.

I am also glad that a total of more than 60 papers were submitted for this 1st ProS-ES Symposium 2019. Along with the positive responses, we look forward for more current research outputs to be published in the IOP Materials Science and Engi-neering (Scopus) Journal and Journal on Chemical Engineering and Industrial Bio-technology (JCEIB-indexed journal).

Honouring the efforts made to organize this symposium, I would like to extend my heartiest appreciation and congratulations to the members of the organizing com-mittee for their unwavering endeavour, commitment and dedication.

To all conference speakers, delegates and participants, I wish you all a fruitful dis-course and deliberations and it is my earnest hope that you enjoy the warmth of our hospitality and a pleasant stay in Kuantan throughout the symposium.

Dr.-Ing. Mohamad Rizza Othman, CEng MIChemE Chairman 1st ProSES Symposium 2019
