    1. It is the responsibility of the owner to ensurethat all users of this treadmill are adequatelyinformed of all warnings and precautions.

    2. Use the treadmill only as described.

    3. Place the treadmill on a level surface, with atleast eight feet of clearance behind it. Do notplace the treadmill on any surface that blocksair openings. To protect the floor or carpetfrom damage, place a mat under the treadmill.

    4. Keep the treadmill indoors, away from mois-ture and dust. Do not put the treadmill in agarage or covered patio, or near water.

    5. Do not operate the treadmill where aerosolproducts are used or where oxygen is beingadministered.

    6. Keep children under the age of 12 and petsaway from the treadmill at all times.

    7. The treadmill should not be used by personsweighing more than 250 pounds.

    8. Never allow more than one person on the

    treadmill at a time.9. Wear appropriate exercise clothing when

    using the treadmill. Do not wear loose cloth-ing that could become caught in the treadmill.Athletic support clothes are recommended forboth men and women. Always wear athleticshoes. Never use the treadmill with bare feet,wearing only stockings, or in sandals.

    10. When connecting the power cord (see page 8),plug the power cord into a surge suppressor(not included) and plug the surge suppressor

    into a grounded circuit capable of carrying 15or more amps. No other appliance should beon the same circuit. Do not use an extensioncord.

    11. Use only a single-outlet surge suppressor thatis UL 1449 listed as a transient voltage surgesuppressor (TVSS). The surge suppressormust have a UL suppressed voltage rating of400 volts or less and a minimum surge dissi-

    pation of 450 joules. The surge suppressormust be electrically rated for 120 volts AC and15 amps. To purchase a surge suppressor, seeyour local SEARS or call 1-800-366-7278 andorder part number 146148.

    12. Keep the power cord and the surge suppres-sor away from heated surfaces.

    13. Never move the walking belt while the poweris turned off. Do not operate the treadmill ifthe power cord or plug is damaged, or if thetreadmill is not working properly. (SeeBEFORE YOU BEGIN on page 5 if the tread-mill is not working properly.)

    14. Never start the treadmill while you are stand-ing on the walking belt. Always hold thehandrails while using the treadmill.

    15. The treadmill is capable of high speeds.Adjust the speed in small increments to avoidsudden jumps in speed.

    16. The pulse sensor is not a medical device.Various factors, including the user's move-ment, may affect the accuracy of heart rate

    readings. The pulse sensor is intended onlyas an exercise aid in determining heart ratetrends in general.

    17. Never leave the treadmill unattended while itis running. Always remove the key, unplugthe power cord, and move the on/off switch tothe off position when the treadmill is not inuse. (See the drawing on page 5 for the loca-tion of the on/off switch.)

    18. Do not attempt to raise, lower, or move thetreadmill until it is properly assembled. (See

    ASSEMBLY on page 6, and HOW TO FOLDAND MOVE THE TREADMILL on page 21.) Youmust be able to safely lift 45 pounds (20 kg) inorder to raise, lower, or move the treadmill.

    19. Do not change the incline of the treadmill byplacing objects under the treadmill.

    20. When folding or moving the treadmill, makesure that the storage latch is fully closed.

    WARNING: To reduce the risk of burns, fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, read thefollowing important precautions and information before operating the treadmill.

    21. When using iFIT.com CDs and videos, anelectronic chirping sound will alert youwhen the speed and/or incline of the treadmillis about to change. Always listen for thechirp and be prepared for speed and/or in-cline changes. In some instances, the speedand/or incline may change before the per-sonal trainer describes the change.

    22. When using iFIT.com CDs and videos, youcan manually override the speed and inclinesettings at any time by pressing the speedand incline buttons. However, when the nextchirp is heard, the speed and/or incline willchange to the next settings of the CD or videoprogram.

    23. Always remove iFIT.com CDs and videos fromyour CD player or VCR when you are notusing them.

    24. Inspect and tighten all parts of the treadmillregularly.

    25. Never insert or drop any object into anyopening.

    26. DANGER: Always unplug the powercord immediately after use, before cleaningthe treadmill, and before performing the main-tenance and adjustment procedures de-scribed in this manual. Never remove themotor hood unless instructed to do so by anauthorized service representative. Servicingother than the procedures in this manualshould be performed by an authorized servicerepresentative only.

    27. This treadmill is intended for in-home useonly. Do not use this treadmill in any commer-cial, rental, or institutional setting.

    ASSEMBLYAssembly requires two people. Set the treadmill in a cleared area and remove all packing materials. Do notdispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed. Assembly requires your own Phillips screw-driver and rubber mallet .

    Note: The underside of the treadmill walking belt is coated with high-performance lubricant. During shipping, asmall amount of lubricant may be transferred to the top of the walking belt or the shipping carton. This is a normal

    condition and does not affect treadmill performance. If there is lubricant on top of the walking belt, simply wipe offthe lubricant with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner.

    1. With the help of a second person, carefully raise thetreadmill to the upright position as shown.

    Insert one of the Extension Legs (55) into the treadmill asshown. Make sure that the Extension Leg is turned sothe Base Pad (44) is on the bottom. If necessary, tip theUprights (64) forward as you insert the Extension Leg.

    Insert the other Extension Leg (not shown) in the sameway.

    2. With the help of a second person, carefully lower theUprights (64) as shown. Note: It may be helpful to placeyour foot on a Wheel (58) as you tip the Uprights. Makesure that the Extension Legs (55) remain in theUprights.

    Attach each Extension Leg (55) with two ExtensionScrews (35) as shown.

    Note: One replacement Base Pad (44) may be included.If a Base Pad becomes worn and needs to be replaced,use the replacement Base Pad.

    4. Turn the Handrail Extension (34) so that the two largerholes are on the bottom as shown. Insert the HandrailExtension as far as possible into the post on the leftUpright (64). If necessary, tap the Handrail Extension witha rubber mallet to fully insert it. Next, attach the HandrailExtension by tightening three Extension Screws (35) intothe indicated holes.

    Identify the Left Foam Grip (31) (see the inset drawing).Remove the paper from the two indicated pieces of FoamTape (82). Apply a small amount of water to the pieces ofFoam Tape. Slide the Left Foam Grip as far as possibleonto the post on the left Upright (64). Note: It may behelpful to lubricate the Handrail Extension (34) withsoapy water. Press two Plastic Fasteners (9) into theFoam Grip and the Handrail Extension (34). If necessary,use a blunt object to press in the Fasteners.

    Attach the other Handrail Extension (not shown) and theRight Foam Grip (43) as described above. Note: Makesure that the Extension Screws (35) are attached on theoutside of the post as shown.

    33. With the help of a second person, carefully tip the

    Uprights (64) back to the vertical position.

    5. Make sure that all parts are tightened before you use the treadmill. Keep the included allen wrench in asecure place; the allen wrench is used to adjust the walking belt (see page 24). To protect the floor or carpetfrom damage, place a mat under the treadmill.

    OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT

    THE PERFORMANT LUBE TM WALKING BELT

    Your treadmill features a walking belt coated withPERFORMANT LUBE TM, a high-performance lubricant.IMPORTANT: Never apply silicone spray or othersubstances to the walking belt or the walking plat-

    form. Such substances will deteriorate the walkingbelt and cause excessive wear.

    HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD

    Your treadmill, like any other type of sophisticatedelectronic equipment, can be seriously damaged bysudden voltage changes in your homes power.Voltage surges, spikes, and noise interference canresult from weather conditions or from other appliancesbeing turned on or off. To decrease the possibility ofyour treadmill being damaged, always use a surgesuppressor with your treadmill (see drawing 1 atthe right).

    To purchase a surge suppressor, see your localSEARS or call toll-free 1-800-366-7278 and orderpart number 146148. Use only a single-outlet surgesuppressor that is UL 1449 listed as a transient voltagesurge suppressor (TVSS). The surge suppressor musthave a UL suppressed voltage rating of 400 volts orless and a minimum surge dissipation of 450 joules.The surge suppressor must be electrically rated for120 volts AC and 15 amps.

    This product must be grounded. If it should malfunc-tion or break down, grounding provides a path of leastresistance for electric current to reduce the risk of elec-tric shock. This product is equipped with a cord havingan equipment-grounding conductor and a groundingplug. Plug the power cord into a surge suppressor,and plug the surge suppressor into an appropriate

    outlet that is properly installed and grounded inaccordance with all local codes and ordinances.Important: The treadmill is not compatible withGFCI-equipped outlets.

    This product is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit,

    and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illus-trated in drawing 1 below. A temporary adapter thatlooks like the adapter illustrated in drawing 2 may beused to connect the surge suppressor to a 2-polereceptacle as shown in drawing 2 if a properlygrounded outlet is not available.

    The temporary adapter should be used only until aproperly grounded outlet (see drawing 1) can be in-stalled by a qualified electrician.

    The green-colored rigid ear, lug, or the like extendingfrom the adapter must be connected to a permanentground such as a properly grounded outlet box cover.Whenever the adapter is used it must be held in placeby a metal screw. Some 2-pole receptacle outlet boxcovers are not grounded. Contact a qualified elec-trician to determine if the outlet box cover isgrounded before using an adapter.

    DANGER: Improper connectionof the equipment-grounding conductor canresult in an increased risk of electric shock.Check with a qualified electrician or service-man if you are in doubt as to whether theproduct is properly grounded. Do not modify

    the plug provided with the productif it willnot fit the outlet, have a proper outletinstalled by a qualified electrician.

    FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE

    The advanced console offers an impressive array offeatures to help you get the most from your exercise.When the manual mode of the console is selected, thespeed and incline of the treadmill can be changed witha touch of a button. As you exercise, the console willdisplay continuous exercise feedback. You can evenmeasure your heart rate using the built-in handgrippulse sensor. Note: See page 20 for information aboutan optional chest pulse sensor.

    Four certified personal trainer programs are alsooffered. Each program automatically controls thespeed and incline of the treadmill to give you an effec-tive workout. Two heart rate programs are also fea-tured. Each program controls the speed and incline ofthe treadmill to keep your heart rate near a target levelduring your workouts.

    The console also features new iFIT.com interactivetechnology. IFIT.com technology is like having a per-

    sonal trainer right in your home. Using the includedaudio cable, you can connect the treadmill to yourhome stereo, portable stereo, or computer and playspecial iFIT.com CD programs (one free iFIT.com CD isincluded; others are available separately). IFIT.com CDprograms automatically control the speed and incline ofthe treadmill as a personal trainer guides you throughevery step of your workout. High-energy music providesadded motivation. Each CD features two programs de-signed by certified personal trainers.

    In addition, you can connect the treadmill to your VCRand TV and play iFIT.com video programs (videocas-

    settes are available separately). Video programs offerthe same benefits as iFIT.com CD programs, but addthe excitement of working out with a class and aninstructorthe hottest new trend at health clubs.

    With the treadmill connected to your computer, youcan also go to our Web site at www.iFIT.com and ac-cess basic programs, audio programs, and video pro-grams directly from the internet.     CAUTION: Before operating theconsole, read the following precautions.

    Do not stand on the walking belt when turn-ing on the power.

    Always wear the clip (see the drawingabove) while operating the treadmill.

    Adjust the speed in small increments toavoid sudden jumps in speed.

    To reduce the possibility of electric shock,keep the console dry. Avoid spilling liquidson the console and place only a sealed waterbottle in the water bottle holder.

    HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER

    Plug in the power cord (see page 8).

    Locate the on/offswitch near the powercord. Move the on/offswitch to the on posi-

    tion.

    Stand on the foot rails of the treadmill. Find the clipattached to the key (see the drawing on page 9)and slide the clip onto the waistband of yourclothes. Next, insert the key into the console. Aftera moment, the displays and various indicators willlight. Test the clip by carefully taking a fewsteps backward until the key is pulled from theconsole. If the key is not pulled from the con-sole, adjust the position of the clip.

    HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE

    Insert the key fully into the console.

    See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER above.

    Select the manual mode.

    When the key is in-serted, the manualmode will be selectedand the Manual Controlindicator will light. If aprogram has beenselected, press the Program button repeatedly toreselect the manual mode.

    Press the Start button or the Speed v button tostart the walking belt.

    A moment after the but-

    ton is pressed, thewalking belt will begin tomove at 1 mph. Holdthe handrails and beginwalking. As you exer-cise, change the speed of the walking belt as de-sired by pressing the Speed w and v buttons.

    Each time a button is pressed, the speed settingwill change by 0.1 mph; if a button is held down,the speed setting will change in increments of 0.5mph. To change the speed setting quickly, pressthe Quick Speed buttons. Note: The console candisplay speed and distance in either miles orkilometers. For simplicity, all instructions inthis section refer to miles.

    During the first few minutes of using the treadmill,inspect the alignment of the walking belt, and alignthe walking belt if necessary (see page 24).

    To stop the walking belt, press the Stop button.The Time/Incline/Segment Time display will beginto flash. To restart the walking belt, press the Startbutton or the Speed v button.

    Change the incline of the treadmill as desired.

    To change the incline ofthe treadmill, press the

    Incline buttons. Each timea button is pressed, theincline will change by0.5%. Note: After the but-tons are pressed, it may take a moment for thetreadmill to reach the selected incline setting.

    Follow your progress with the LED track andthe displays.

    The LED Track Whenthe manual mode or theiFIT.com mode is se-lected, the program dis-play will show an LEDtrack representing 1/4mile. As you exercise,the indicators around the track will light in sequenceuntil you have completed 1/4 mile. A new lap willthen begin.

    Calories/Fat Calories/Heart Rate display This display shows theapproximate numbers of

    calories and fat caloriesyou have burned (seeFAT BURNING on page 25). The display willchange from one number to the other every fewseconds, as shown by the indicators in the dis-play. The display will also show your heart ratewhen you use the handgrip pulse sensor (refer tostep 6 on page 11) or the optional chest pulsesensor (refer to page 20).

    Time/Incline/SegmentTime display Whenthe manual mode or theiFIT.com mode is se-lected, this display willshow the elapsed timeand the incline level of the treadmill. The displaywill change from one number to the other everyfew seconds, as shown by the indicators in the

    display. When a personal trainer program or aheart rate program is selected, the display willshow the time remaining in the program, the timeremaining in the current segment of the program,and the incline level. Note: Each time the inclinechanges, the display will show the current inclinesetting for several seconds.

    Distance/Lapsdisplay This displayshows the distance thatyou have walked and thenumber of 1/4-mile laps

    you have completed. Thedisplay will change from one number to the otherevery few seconds, as shown by the indicators inthe display.

    Speed/Min-Miledisplay This displayshows the speed of thewalking belt and yourcurrent pace (pace ismeasured in minutes permile). The display will change from one number tothe other every few seconds, as shown by the in-dicators in the display. Note: Each time the speedchanges, the display will show the current speedsetting for several seconds.

    Note: The console candisplay speed and dis-tance in either miles orkilometers. To find whichunit of measurement isselected, hold down theStop button while inserting the key into the con-sole. An E for English miles or an M for metric

    kilometers will appear in the display. Press theSpeed v button to change the unit of measure-ment. When the desired unit of measurement isselected, remove the key and then reinsert it.

    To reset the displays, press the Stop button, re-move the key, and then reinsert the key.

    Measure your heart rate, if desired.

    Note: Before using the handgrip pulse sensor,make sure that your hands are clean.

    To measure yourheart rate, standon the foot railsand place your

    hands on themetal contacts onthe handrail. Yourpalms must beresting on the con-tacts avoid moving your hands . When yourpulse is detected, the heart-shaped indicator in theCalories/Fat Calories/Heart Rate display will flash,and then your heart rate will be shown. For themost accurate heart rate reading, continue tohold the contacts for about 15 seconds.

    When you are finished exercising, remove thekey.

    Step onto the foot rails, press the Stop button, andadjust the incline of the treadmill to the lowestsetting. The incline must be at the lowest settingwhen the treadmill is folded to the storage posi-tion or the treadmill will be damaged. Next, re-move the key from the console and put it in a se-cure place. Note: If the displays and various indi-cators on the console remain lit after the key isremoved, the console is in the demo mode.See page 20 and turn off the demo mode.

    When you are finished using the treadmill, movethe on/off switch near the power cord to the offposition and unplug the power cord.

    HOW TO USE PERSONAL TRAINER PROGRAMS

    Insert the key fully into the console.

    See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page10.

    Select one of the personal trainer programs.

    When the keyis inserted, themanual modewill be se-lected. To se-lect one of thepersonaltrainer programs, press the Program button re-peatedly until one of the four personal trainer pro-gram indicators lights. When a personal trainerprogram is selected, the Time/Incline/SegmentTime display will flash the maximum incline settingfor the program for six seconds, and theSpeed/Min-mile display will flash the maximumspeed setting.

    The four profiles on the right side of the consoleshow how the speed and incline of the treadmillwill change during the programs. The numbersbeside the profiles show the maximum speed andincline settings for the programs.

    The program displaywill show the firstspeed settings for theprogram. The Time/ Incline/Segment Timedisplay will show howlong the program willlast.

    Press the Start button or the Speed v button tostart the program.

    A moment after the button is pressed, the tread-mill will automatically adjust to the first speed andincline settings for the program. Hold the handrails

    and begin walking.

    Each program is divided into several time seg-ments of different lengths. The Time/Incline/ Segment Time display will show both the time re-maining in the program and the time remaining inthe current segment. One speed setting and oneincline setting are programmed for each segment.(The same speed setting and/or incline setting maybe programmed for consecutive segments.) The

    speed setting for thefirst segment will beshown in the flashingCurrent Segment col-umn of the program dis-play. (The incline set-tings are not shown inthe program display.)The speed settings for the next four segments will

    be shown in the four columns to the right.

    When only three seconds remain in the first seg-ment of the program, both the Current Segmentcolumn and the column to the right will flash and atone will sound. In addition, if the speed and/orincline of the treadmill is about to change, theSpeed/Min-mile display and/or the Time/Incline/ Segment Time display will flash to alert you, andthree tones will sound. When the first segment iscompleted, all speed settings will move one col-umn to the left. The speed setting for the secondsegment will then be shown in the flashing

    Current Segment column and the treadmill will au-tomatically adjust to the speed and incline settingsfor the second segment.

    The program will continue in this way until thespeed setting for the last segment is shown in theCurrent Segment column and no time remains inthe Time/Incline/Segment Time display. The walk-ing belt will then slow to a stop.

    Note: Each time a segment ends and the speedsettings move one column to the left, if all of theindicators in the Current Segment column are lit,the speed settings will move downward so that onlythe highest indicators in the columns will appear inthe program display. When the speed settingsmove to the left again and not all of the indicatorsin the Current Segment column are lit, the speedsettings will move back up.

    If the speed or incline setting for the currentsegment is too high or too low, you can manuallyoverride the setting by pressing the Speed orIncline buttons. Every few times one of the Speedbuttons is pressed, an additional indicator will lightor darken in the Current Segment column. If any ofthe columns to the right of the Current Segmentcolumn have the same number of lit indicators asthe Current Segment column, an additional indica-tor may light or darken in those columns as well.Important: When the current segment of theprogram ends, the treadmill will automaticallyadjust to the speed and incline settings for thenext segment.

    To stop the program temporarily, press the Stopbutton. The Time/Incline/Segment Time displaywill begin to flash. To restart the program, pressthe Start button or the Speed v button. To end theprogram, press the Stop button, remove the key,and then reinsert the key.

    Follow your progress with the displays.

    Measure your heart rate, if desired.

    When the program is completed, remove thekey from the console.

    When the program has ended, make sure thatthe incline of the treadmill is at the lowest set-ting. Next, remove the key from the console andput it in a safe place. Note: If the displays andvarious indicators on the console remain litafter the key is removed, the console is in thedemo mode. Refer to page 20 and turn off thedemo mode.

    When you are finished using the treadmill, movethe on/off switch near the power cord to the offposition and unplug the power cord.

    HOW TO USE HEART RATE PROGRAMS

    Follow the steps below to use the heart rate programs.Note: You must wear the optional chest pulse sen-sor (see page 20) to use the heart rate programs.

    Put on the chest pulse sensor.

    Refer to the instructions included with the optionalchest pulse sensor.

    Insert the key fully into the console.

    See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page10.

    Select a heart rate program.

    When the key isinserted, themanual modewill be selected.To select one ofthe heart rateprograms, pressthe Program button repeatedly until one of the twoheart rate program indicators lights.

    The two profiles on the left side of the consoleshow how the target heart rate will change duringthe programs. The numbers above the profilesrepresent percentages of your estimated maxi-mum heart rate. (Your estimated maximum heartrate is determined by subtracting your age from220. For example, if you are 30 years old, yourestimated maximum heart rate is 190 beats per

    minute [220 30 = 190]. If you are 30 years old, atarget heart rate setting of 50% is equal to 95beats per minute [50% of 190 is 95]).

    During heart rate pro-grams, the programdisplay will show agraphic that representsyour heart rate. Eachtime a heartbeat is de-tected, an additionalpeak will appear.

    Enter your age.

    When a heart rate pro-gram is selected, the let-ters AGE and the currentage setting will begin toflash in the Calories/ Fat Calories/Heart Ratedisplay. You must enter your age to use a heartrate program. If you have already entered yourage, go to step 5. If you have not entered yourage, press the Incline (Age Set) buttons until yourage is shown. Your age will then be saved in mem-

    ory.

    Press the Start button or the Speed v button tostart the program.

    A moment after the button is pressed, the tread-mill will automatically adjust to the first speed andincline settings for the program. Hold the handrailsand begin walking.

    Each heart rate program is divided into one-minutesegments. The Time/Incline/Segment Time displaywill show both the time remaining in the programand the time remaining in the current segment ofthe program. One target heart rate setting is pro-grammed for each segment. (The same targetheart rate setting may be programmed for consecu-tive segments.)

    When only three seconds remain in the first one-minute segment of the program, a series of toneswill sound and the Time/Incline/Segment Timedisplay and the Speed/Min-Mile display will flash.

    The speed and/or incline of the treadmill will thenchange, if needed, to bring your heart rate closer tothe target heart rate setting for the next segment.The program will continue until no time remains inthe program. The walking belt will then slow to astop.

    If the speed or incline setting for the current seg-ment is too high or too low, you can adjust the set-

    ting with the Speed or Incline buttons. However, ifyou decrease the speed, the incline will automati-cally increase; if you increase the speed, the in-cline will decrease. If you increase the incline, thespeed will decrease; if you decrease the incline,the speed will increase. The treadmill will alwaysattempt to keep your heart rate near the targetheart rate setting for the current segment. Note:When the incline reaches the lowest setting, thespeed cannot be increased any further. When theincline reaches the highest setting, the speed can-not be decreased any further.

    If your pulse is not detected during the program,the letters PLS will flash in the Calories/FatCalories/Heart Rate display and the speed and in-cline of the treadmill may automatically decreaseuntil your pulse is detected. If this occurs, refer tothe instructions included with the chest pulse sen-sor.

    To stop the program at any time, press the Stopbutton. Heart rate programs should not be stoppedtemporarily and then restarted. To use a heart rateprogram again, reselect the program and start it atthe beginning.

    Follow your progress with the displays.

    Refer to step 5 on page 10.

    When the program is completed, remove thekey from the console.

    THE INFORMATION MODE/DEMO MODE

    The console features an information mode that keepstrack of the total number of hours that the treadmill hasbeen operated and the total number of miles that thewalking belt has moved. The information mode also al-lows you to switch the console from miles per hour tokilometers per hour. In addition, the information modeallows you to turn on and turn off the demo mode.

    To select the information mode, hold down the Stopbutton while inserting the key into the console. Whenthe information mode is selected, the following informa-tion will be shown:

    The Time/Incline/SegmentTime display will show thetotal number of hours thetreadmill has been used.

    The Distance/Laps display

    will show the total number ofmiles (or kilometers) that thewalking belt has moved.

    An E for english miles or anM for metric kilometers willappear in the Speed/Min-Miledisplay. Press the Speed vbutton to change the unit ofmeasurement.

    IMPORTANT: The Calories/Fat Calories/Heart Rate dis-play should be blank. If a dappears in the display, theconsole is in the demomode. This mode is intendedto be used only when a treadmill is displayed in a store.When the console is in the demo mode, the power cordcan be plugged in, the key can be removed from theconsole, and the displays and indicators on the consolewill automatically light in a preset sequence, althoughthe buttons on the console will not operate. If a d ap-pears in the Calories/Fat Calories/Heart Rate display

    when the information mode is selected, press theSpeed w button so the Calories/Fat Calories/HeartRate display is blank.

    To exit the information mode, remove the key from theconsole.

    THE OPTIONAL CHEST PULSE SENSOR

    An optional chest pulse sensor adds even more fea-tures to the console. The chest pulse sensor offershands-free operation, and enables you to use the con-soles two heart rate programs. To purchase thechest pulse sensor, call the toll-free telephonenumber listed on the back cover of this manual.

    HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL

    HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE

    Before folding the treadmill, adjust the incline to thelowest position. If this is not done, the treadmill may bepermanently damaged. Next, unplug the power cord.CAUTION: You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds (20

    kg) in order to raise, lower, or move the treadmill.

    1. Hold the treadmill with your hands in the locations shownat the right. CAUTION: To decrease the possibility ofinjury, bend your legs and keep your back straight. Asyou raise the treadmill, make sure to lift with your legsrather than your back. Raise the treadmill about halfwayto the vertical position.

    2. Move your right hand to the position shown and hold thetreadmill firmly. Using your left hand, pull the latch knobto the left and hold it. Raise the treadmill until the catch ispast the latch pin. Slowly release the latch knob. Makesure that the catch is securely held by the latch pin.

    To protect the floor or carpet from damage, place amat under the treadmill. Keep the treadmill out ofdirect sunlight. Do not leave the treadmill in the stor-age position in temperatures above 85Fahrenheit.

    HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL

    Before moving the treadmill, convert the treadmill to the stor-age position as described above. Make sure that the catchis securely held by the latch pin.

    1. Hold the handrails as shown and place one foot against awheel.

    2. Tilt the treadmill back until it rolls freely on the wheels.Carefully move the treadmill to the desired location.Never move the treadmill without tipping it back. Toreduce the risk of injury, use extreme caution whilemoving the treadmill. Do not attempt to move the

    treadmill over an uneven surface.3. Place one foot on a wheel, and carefully lower the tread-

    1. Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right handas shown. Using your left hand, pull the latch knob to theleft and hold it. Pivot the treadmill down until the frame ispast the pin. Slowly release the latch knob.

    2. Hold the treadmill firmly with both hands, and lower thetreadmill to the floor. Do not drop the treadmill frameto the floor. CAUTION: To decrease the possibility ofinjury, bend your legs and keep your back straight.

    TROUBLE -SHOOTING

    Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the simple steps below. Find the symptom thatapplies, and follow the steps listed. If further assistance is needed, call our toll-free HELPLINE at1-800-736-6879, Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Central Time (excluding holidays).

    PROBLEM: The power does not turn on

    SOLUTION: a. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a surge suppressor, and that the surge suppressoris plugged into a properly grounded outlet (see page 8). Use only a single-outlet surge suppres-sor that is UL 1449 listed as a transient voltage surge suppressor (TVSS). The surge suppressormust have a UL suppressed voltage rating of 400 volts or less and a minimum surge dissipationof 450 joules. The surge suppressor must be electrically rated for 120 volts AC and 15 amps.Important: The treadmill is not compatible with GFCI-equipped outlets.

    b. After the power cord has been plugged in, make sure that the key is fully inserted into the console.

    c. Check the circuit breaker located on the treadmillnear the power cord. If the switch protrudes asshown, the circuit breaker has tripped. To reset thecircuit breaker, wait for five minutes and then pressthe switch back in.

    d. Check the on/off switch located on the treadmill nearthe power cord. The switch must be in the on posi-tion.

    PROBLEM: The power turns off during use

    SOLUTION: a. Check the circuit breaker located on the treadmill frame near the power cord (see c. above). If thecircuit breaker has tripped, wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in.

    b. Make sure that the power cord is plugged in.c. Unplug the power cord, wait for five minutes, and then plug the power cord back in.

    d. Remove the key from the console. Reinsert the key fully into the console.

    e. Make sure that the on/off switch is in the on position.

    f. If the treadmill still will not run, please call our toll-free HELPLINE.

    PROBLEM: The speed display on the console does not function properly

    SOLUTION: a. Remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD .

    Carefully lower the Uprights (64) to the floor. Removethe three indicated Small Screws (37).

    Locate the Reed Switch (18) and the Magnet (101) onthe left side of the Pulley (78). Turn the Pulley until theMagnet is aligned with the Reed Switch. Make surethat the gap between the Magnet and the ReedSwitch is about 1/8. If necessary, loosen the 3/4Screw (24) and move the Reed Switch slightly.Retighten the Screw. Re-attach the hood, and run thetreadmill for a few minutes to check for a correctspeed reading.

    PROBLEM: The walking belt slows when walked on

    SOLUTION: a. See (a) under The power does not turn on on page 23.

    b. If the walking belt is overtightened, treadmill perfor-mance may decrease and the walking belt may be-come damaged. Remove the key and UNPLUG THEPOWER CORD . Using the allen wrench, turn bothrear roller adjustment bolts counterclockwise, 1/4 of aturn. When the walking belt is properly tightened, youshould be able to lift each side of the walking belt 3 to4 inches off the walking platform. Be careful to keepthe walking belt centered. Plug in the power cord, in-sert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes.Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened.

    PROBLEM: The walking belt is off-center or slips when walked on

    SOLUTION: a. If the walking belt has shifted to the left, first re-move the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD .Using the allen wrench, turn the left rear roller bolt

    clockwise 1/2 of a turn. Be careful not to overtightenthe walking belt. If the walking belt has shifted tothe right, turn the left rear roller bolt counterclockwise1/2 of a turn. Plug in the power cord, insert the keyand run the treadmill for a few minutes. Repeat untilthe walking belt is centered.

    b. If the walking belt slips when walked on, first removethe key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD . Usingthe allen wrench, turn both rear roller bolts clockwise,1/4 of a turn. When the walking belt is correctly tight-ened, you should be able to lift each side of the walk-ing belt 3 to 4 inches off the walking platform. Be

    careful to keep the walking belt centered. Plug in thepower cord, insert the key and carefully walk on thetreadmill for a few minutes. Repeat until the walkingbelt is properly tightened.

    PROBLEM: The incline of the treadmill does not change correctly or does not change when iFIT.comCDs and videos are played

    SOLUTION: a. With the key inserted in the console, press one of the Incline buttons. While the incline ischanging, remove the key. After a few seconds, re-insert the key. The treadmill will automati-cally rise to the maximum incline level and then return to the minimum level. This will recalibratethe incline.

    CONDITIONING GUIDELINES

    The following guidelines will help you to plan your ex-ercise program. For more detailed exercise informa-tion, obtain a reputable book or consult your physician.

    EXERCISE INTENSITY

    Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen yourcardiovascular system, the key to achieving thedesired results is to exercise with the proper intensity.The proper intensity level can be found by using yourheart rate as a guide. The chart below shows recom-mended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise.

    To find the proper heart rate for you, first find your agenear the bottom of the chart (ages are rounded off tothe nearest ten years). Next, find the three numbersabove your age. The three numbers define your train-ing zone. The lower two numbers are recommendedheart rates for fat burning; the higher number is therecommended heart rate for aerobic exercise.

    To measure your heart rate during exercise, use thepulse sensor. If your heart rate is too high or too low,adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill.

    Fat Burning

    To burn fat effectively, you must exercise at a relativelylow intensity level for a sustained period of time.During the first few minutes of exercise, your bodyuses easily accessible carbohydrate calories for en-

    ergy. Only after the first few minutes does your bodybegin to use stored fat calories for energy. If your goalis to burn fat, adjust the speed and incline of the tread-mill until your heart rate is near the lowest number inyour training zone.

    For maximum fat burning, adjust the speed and inclineof the treadmill until your heart rate is near the middlenumber in your training zone.

    Aerobic Exercise

    If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys-tem, your exercise must be aerobic. Aerobic exerciseis activity that requires large amounts of oxygen forprolonged periods of time. This increases the demandon the heart to pump blood to the muscles, and on thelungs to oxygenate the blood. For aerobic exercise,adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until yourheart rate is near the highest number in your trainingzone.

    WORKOUT GUIDELINES

    Each workout should include the following three parts:

    A Warm-up Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutesof stretching and light exercise. A proper warm-up in-creases your body temperature, heart rate and circula-tion in preparation for exercise.

    Training Zone Exercise After warming up, increasethe intensity of your exercise until your pulse is in yourtraining zone for 20 to 60 minutes. (During the first fewweeks of your exercise program, do not keep yourpulse in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes.)Breathe regularly and deeply as you exerciseneverhold your breath.

    A Cool-down Finish each workout with 5 to 10 min-utes of stretching to cool down. This will increase theflexibility of your muscles and will help prevent post-ex-ercise problems.

    EXERCISE FREQUENCY

    To maintain or improve your condition, complete threeworkouts each week, with at least one day of rest be-tween workouts. After a few months, you may com-plete up to five workouts each week if desired.

    The key to success is to make exercise a regular andenjoyable part of your everyday life.

    WARNING: Before beginning thisor any exercise program, consult your physi-cian. This is especially important for individu-als over the age of 35 or individuals with pre-existing health problems.

    The pulse sensor is not a medical device.Various factors, including your movement,may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings.The sensor is intended only as an exercise aidin determining heart rate trends in general.

    SUGGESTED STRETCHES

    The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretchnever bounce.

    1. Toe Touch Stretch

    Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward fromyour hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reachdown toward your toes as far as possible. Hold for 15 counts,

    then relax. Repeat 3 times. Stretches: Hamstrings, back of kneesand back.

    2. Hamstring Stretch

    Sit with one leg extended. Bring the sole of the opposite foot to-ward you and rest it against the inner thigh of your extended leg.Reach toward your toes as far as possible. Hold for 15 counts,then relax. Repeat 3 times for each leg. Stretches: Hamstrings,lower back and groin.

    3. Calf/Achilles Stretch

    With one leg in front of the other, reach forward and place yourhands against a wall. Keep your back leg straight and your backfoot flat on the floor. Bend your front leg, lean forward and moveyour hips toward the wall. Hold for 15 counts, then relax. Repeat3 times for each leg. To cause further stretching of the achillestendons, bend your back leg as well. Stretches: Calves, achillestendons and ankles.

    4. Quadriceps Stretch

    With one hand against a wall for balance, reach back and graspone foot with your other hand. Bring your heel as close to yourbuttocks as possible. Hold for 15 counts, then relax. Repeat 3times for each leg. Stretches: Quadriceps and hip muscles.

    5. Inner Thigh Stretch

    Sit with the soles of your feet together and your knees outward.Pull your feet toward your groin area as far as possible. Hold for15 counts, then relax. Repeat 3 times. Stretches: Quadricepsand hip muscles.
