WHAT ARE THE PROFESSIONAL REGISTERS IN BEAUTY, NAILS AND SPA?

Three independent registers supported by the government that recognise the qualifications and experience of beauty, nail and spa professionals.

Launched in 2013, the registers exists to gainrecognition for the work of professionals workingin the industry, and enables the sector todemonstrate its commitment to the delivery ofhigh quality treatments and services to thegeneral public through the continuingprofessional development of registered members.

Membership is voluntary and the registers are run independently to ensure the integrity of the registers are never breached.

WHY DO WE NEED THE PROFESSIONAL REGISTERS?

The registers were launched following a call from business owners and employers to raise standards and professionalism in the industry.

The industry is unregulated and anyone can operate without any training and qualifications therefore the registers highlight unqualified workers operating in salons and spas.

To register, professionals must provide evidence of qualifications and experience that meet a minimum framework based on agreed National Occupation Standards (NOS).

Members must also commit to their continuing professional development (CPD) training and adhere to an industry code of ethical conduct.

THE ROLE OF EDUCATORS

Gaining the support of educators, colleges and training providers is vital to ensure the success of the registers. As an educator, you can play a key role in developing the registers by educating students about the reasons for and the benefits of becoming a member and automatically enrolling individuals as soon as they achieve the minimum criteria qualifications.

Registration is open to students studying eligible Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications.

BENEFITS:

Demonstrates that registered students arequalified and competent and havesuccessfully gained national set standard training qualifications.

Provides a pathway to employment with easy access for employers to check qualification and experience records.

Training centre recognition for delivering National Occupational Standard (NOS) qualifications.

The public has access to the registers to check that therapists are suitably qualified.

The registers protect the public from untrained therapists that do not have the relevant qualifications.
