Prof. Dr. Peter Hennicke Peter Hennicke is Former President of Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy and works since 2008 as an Emeritus and as Senior Scientist in many projects in cooperation with the Wuppertal Institute and other partners. After his postdoctoral lecture qualification with emphasis on economics and energy management, Prof. Peter Hennicke was appointed professor at the University of Osnabrück. Peter Hennicke gained his practical experience for realisation of energy- efficient systems and concepts during his leave of absence while conducting Corporate Planning at a regional Public Utility, as well as working as Head of Energy Policy Section for the Ministry of Environment of Hessen. Between 1988 and October 1992 he was professor for Economics and Energy Management at the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt. From March 2000 to July 2002 he was an Appointed Expert of the Commission of Inquiry on „Sustainable Energy Supply against the Background of Globalisation and Liberalisation“ of the 14th German Bundestag. From May 2002 to June 2006 Prof. Hennicke was member of the “Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel” (STAP) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF)/UNEP. Furthermore he is part of many advisory boards and committees to support the “Energiewende” and a “Green Economy“ at home and abroad. Since January 2012 he is one of two representatives of the European Parliament in the Management Board of the European Environment Agency (EEA). In 2014 Prof. Hennicke was nominated as a Full Member of the Club of Rome. In 2014/2015 he was invited as a Guest Professor to Lund University/ International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (Sweden). Prof. Hennicke received the prestigious “German Environmental Award” (2014) of the German Federal Environmental Foundation and the “Gothenburg Award for Sustainable Development“ (2015) in Sweden.

With these awards Prof. Hennicke was honored as thought leader of the German ”Energiewende” since the 1980 and as an internationally outstanding expert on energy efficiency and energy policies.

Since 2016 he is Co-Chair of the „German-Japanese Energy Transition Council“ (GJETC), which he launched.
