CHALLENGE:

Its a small site have to satisfy the hugr amount area requirment from client. it will be a 14 levels shopping mall in the busy city central, how to attract people walk into this mall is a main challenge.The other hand, design a superhigh building in this location will create a sun shading problem effect north housing, how to avoid the shading problem is our main issue in this project.

STRATEGY:

We design a retail street on the ground level to continue the shooping street of the site, try to make people walk into the site smoothly, we also create the othe theme retail street inbetween the lower retail level and the towers. its aim to create the different space experience in this tall shopping mall. In the terms of environmental problem, we use Tsun to calculate an angle to avoid the sun shading problem by apartment towers.

RESULTS/IMPACT:

The twist shape of towers may increase the budget of structure, after consultant analysis, we got an economical strategy.

in this proposed scheme we avoid the sun shading problem also make a goal to satify the area requirment.

The project is a complex mixed-use development that involves hotel, aprtment, offi ce and retail, with a built area of aporixi-mately 260.000m2 and 17.5 FAR. It will host a wide variety and huge volume of users and clients, as it aims to be a center and a destination for commercial and working activities as well as entertainment and leisure. It is a project that by being a well-connected destination, will catalyze a great amount of interactions and activities.

Introduction

The Project located in the central dist of Chengdu, Chunxi Rd area. We have taken as inspiration from the city’s culture and spirit, and the project’s positioning our design staring point. Chengdu‘s distinctive and vivid culture has already helped shape the design of many successful retail projects; our project will be of “Bulgari” style having high-end luxury design quality. We’ll show the two main design logic with our concept later.

The result of the interlocking is a vi-brant and iconic design. We express the program contained in the build-ing with different facade treatments, playing with transparency and opac-ity. Revealing within the interstitial that binds and also synergizes the various entity to create vitality.

Our design strategy is to compose the mixed use “ interlocking ”the different program like a kilt of part to optimize frontage, adjacencies views and locking for the milieu of pro-gram.in so doing they each generate specifi c urban relationships at multi-ple levels.

The Site area is 15000 sqm have to contain diverse programme, a luxury hotel, aprtment, offi ce and retail mall, with a built area of aporiximately 260.000 sqm. After area analysis, we decided piled up the different programme in a very high podium. to form a boxy shape city landmark.

Diffi culty in The Design Process

In our design process, we found the location of this project might make a shadow effect in north residential housing. After Tsun 7.5 shading analysis, we decided rotate apartment shape to avoid shading effect. In addition, the twist tower structure also a diffculty in this project.

Facade Study

Facade of mall is rich and exciting, strengthening the retial environment of main street. With LED light effects constantly changing, it riches the urban context of Chengdu chengter.We continue use the boxes, interlocking, twist ideas to make a diversity texture in the facade.In the terms of tower, we made a different level change followed by the height, to creat different layers
