Tonick TW-3 Controller

Underhill SAPIEN Controller

Sapien from Underhill operates up to 63 stations of the TW-TK-DEC-1 landscape decoders; a pure decoder-based irrigation controller, offering incredible power in a small, affordable package. It sets a new standard for commercial and high end residential applications - new systems, conversions and expansions.

The Sapien is easy to install and easy on your budget. In addition, no special wire and no field decoder grounding is needed. The controller even has a built-in decoder programmer. Included are comprehensive logging and station faultfinding facilities. Remote control is possible from radio, mobile phone or iPhone/Android App.

Remote Control

The Underhill Sapien and Tonick TW-3 can be operated remotely, to turn a station on and off or set a range of stations watering for a defined time. For most models, this can be concurrent with automatic programs.

The following devices can be used to send remote control commands.

• A licensed portable mobile radio transceiver equipped with a keyboard and DTMF dialing capability.

• The Underhill DTMF microphone, plugged into a portable mobile radio transceiver that does not have its own DTMF capability. This may be an EU license-free mobile, 446MHz.

• A mobile phone with the stored number of the receiving cellphone.

• An iPhone or Android phone running the Underhill App.

In all cases, there must be a receiver next to the controller with the audio taken out through the accessory socket and connected to the controller’s remote control terminals.

The following types of receiver can be chosen, as appropriate to the sending device.

• A standard scanner receiver, pre-programmed to only pick up the frequency of interest.

• The other half of a low cost license-free transceiver pair, permanently in its charging cradle.

• A mobile phone programmed to auto answer a particular number or numbers. Can be a low cost Pay As You Go, like a Sony Ericsson SPIRO

The RM-2 Rainmaker irrigation controller provides a solution for large scale irrigation applications. Providing both remote connectivity and water balance control, the RM-2 is a very powerful and scalable irrigation controller.

The RM-2 comes with both an Ethernet and an integrated 3G modem providing remote access via your smart phone, tablet, PC or centralised monitoring system. The unit is configured using its own web interface, enabling the user to setup watering stations and program times.

Sensor Decoders

Tonick Watering was formed in 1996 to design and produce innovative decoders to provide superior performance and reliability with the majority of other brands; this has culminated in a comprehensive range of types, all incorporating highly effective lightning protection and a 5 year warranty, which includes damage by lightning.

Tonick decoders are proven over 200,000 stations in more than 3000 sites around the world. Tonick’s range includes equivalents to the most popular makes.

The Underhill/Tonick decoder range is distinguished from other makes by a tolerance to old and leaky field cables and not needing additional lightning protection grounding or protection modules at intervals along the field wires. This results in significant project cost savings and allows retrofit into existing cables, including bunched multi-wire.

Complementing the decoders are low cost programmer/testers to preset the station address and to test them.

Field cable life and immunity from lightning damage are enhanced by making waterproof joints. The DBY-style grease filled cable sleeves protecting crimped joints offer the fastest and most efficient way of making waterproof joints that are easy to service in years to come.

The HITUF cable stripper removes the outer jacket without nicking the inner conductor insulation

The Crimp Tool joins wires together using the PL5/10/16 crimps. When inserted in the grease-filled sleeve, each joint is waterproof but easily accessible for voltage measurement.

The Wire Stripper effortlessly removes the inner conductor insulation.

Field Wiring Faultfinding

The most essential tool for diagnosing faults in any decoder system is a sensitive current clamp meter. This is often referred to as a Leakage Clamp Meter. With this, it is easy to find main cable leakage to earth, shorts, opens and faulty decoders without cutting up the main cable.

When short circuits are present, most irrigation controllers will shut down the decoder power to protect themselves. The powerful faultfinding Transformer will instead pump 30VAC into the decoder cable, despite shorts, enabling the clamp meter to be used to find them. 30VAC is not known to harm any decoder.

Additional circuits in the Tonick/Underhill transformer facilitate the measurement and location of earth leakage from the decoder cable using the clamp meter.
