Basic Concept

1. Each process has a supermarket which holds the product it produces.

2. Replenishment of the supermarket is the basic objective

3. Parts are delivered between processes using a Kanban signal

4. Shipment to the Customer generates a delivery and production requirement

5. Only one department is scheduled - Pacemaker

There are two types of Kanban Production Scheduling Boards “The Big Picture Board” – Kanban Board

To schedule production for a large department or the whole factory To show status of all Kanbans in production To show inventory levels, shortages, issues and urgencies Located in a central place

Individual Process or a Line Scheduling Boards To show a production schedule for individual work areas, work cells,

etc … To show production sequence and quantities Located near individual machines or operations
