LOCATION SCOUTING• Location scouting is the process of looking for locations in which to film

your video production. It requires a lot of traveling, observing and talking to people. There are three objectives that a location needs to meet during a scout in order for it to be considered by production: It must look right for the story. The owners of that location must allow permission for filming there to occur. And, the location must be logistically feasible for the needs of a production. For example the jungle in china for an animal documentary you need to consider the transportation, local experts, equipment and more.

MARKET RESEARCH• Market research is the action or activity of gathering information about

consumers' needs and preferences. So we are gathering and evaluation of data regarding consumers' preferences for products and services. The purpose of market research is to gather data on customers and potential customers. The collected data aids business decision making. For example a focus group is a way to collect consumers needs and preferences.

RECCES

• Recces is visually observing a target/location prior to the main operation. Its when a film crew and a producer visits their location before shooting, to check its suitability for shooting and access to necessary facilities. They also need to check for any lighting or sound issues. If they find anything wrong with the location then they will have o relocate.

LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS• Copy right is a big issue the media industry faces. Legal protection is

advised so that their original material cant be used in somebody else's name. However copyright can only be applied on the application of the idea. Not the idea itself.

• It is also illegal to discriminate anyone on grades of race, sex, disability when recurring in the workplace.

• National security is another legal issue filmmakers face. Filmmakers and producers must be aware of certain laws such as the official secrets act and the prevention of a terrorist attack.

TREATMENTS• A film treatment is a piece of prose, typically the step between scene cards

and the first draft of a screenplay for a motion picture, television program, or radio play. It is generally longer and more detailed than an outline and it may include details of directorial style that an outline omits. Treatments read like a short story, but are told in the present tense and describe events as they happen.
