LANDSCAPE INSECTICIDEKey turf and landscape insects are con-

trollable with Turcam insecticide from Nor-Am Chemical Co. Turcam is effective againstsurface and subsurface pests of turf, as wellas major pests of trees, shrubs and flowers.

The subsurface turf pests Turcam isrecommended for include a variety of whitegrubs, mole crickets and billbugs. Surfacepests controlled include chinch bugs, leaf-hoppers, sod webworms, ants, spiders,wasps, centipedes and fleas, and fire ants.Nor-Am recommends treatment with acoarse, low-pressure spray in sufficient waterto obtain complete and uniform coverage.

Application of Turcam spray to the pointof run-off is advised for pests of landscapetrees, including gypsy moth, Eastern tentcaterpillar, Japanese beetle, bagworm,bronze birch borer, cankerworm, pine tip32 sportsTURF

moth and pine weevils. Both foliage and barkshould be sprayed.

\No external power is needed to inject fer-

tilizers and chemicals into irrigation systemswith the Amiad injector. Powered by thepressure of the irrigation system, the unitinjects up to 1.5 gallons per minute of li-quid into the irrigation mains depending up-on the pressure in the system. Pressuresfrom seven to 170 psi will operate the in-jector.

Constructed of chemical-resistant plas-tics, stainless steel and Viton seals, the unitis supplied with most necessary pipes, fit-ting and accessories for immediate instal-lation. The injector can be fitted with pulsetransmitters for use with electronic con-trollers. Suction and gravity feed units arealso available. Both hydraulic and automaticcut-out units are offered.

Since the pump's maximum rate of injec-tion is proportional to the pressure in themain line, the injection rate is adjusted bycontrolling the rate into the main with a 3/4inch hand valve. The RainCoach is a commercial grade,portable sprinkler for irrigating large openturf areas. The rugged sprinkler travels ona cable 300 feet long (450 feet optional).The cable is rolled out and staked. Whenthe RainCoach reaches the end of the stakeit turns off automatically.

Driving power is supplied by two nozzleson opposing driving arms. Fertilizer Plus Fungicide VIII provides alight feeding to most cool and warm sea-son turfgrasses in addition to fungicides fordollar spot, leaf spot, red leaf spot, Fusari-um patch and brown patch. The product isrecommended for use on bentgrass, Ken-tucky bluegrass, bermudagrass, ryegrass,fine fescue, tall fescues and annualbluegrass. A choice of application rates areprovided depending upon the severity of in-festation and the type of protection desired.The fungicides work through both contactand systemic action.

The fertilizer in the mix contains slow-release nitrogen, phosphorus and potassiumat a 23-3-3 ratio. POND WEED CONTROLLandscape ponds choked by unsightly

weeds can be made more attractive witha new aquatic weed control product calledSonar, recently registered with the Environ-mental Protection Agency.

This new herbicide removes pondweed,coontail, waterlily, duckweed and many otherwater weeds without affecting water quali-ty or Wildlife, as shown by extensive test-ing on lakes, ponds and reservoirs through-out North America.

Unlike previous products, Sonar carriesno label restrictions against fishing or swim-ming in treated water or drinking it. Thusthe herbicide can be applied (in both pelletedand liquid forms) without interrupting wateruse.

Sonar has no detrimental effects on fish,game birds, insects or other organisms suchas plankton. It is not harmful to nearby treesand shrubs that are not growing in the water.If applied when aquatic plants are small,it controls them throughout the season.

Sonar controls a wide range of submersedand emersed plants and shoreline grass-es, but does not control algae. Waterchemistry and quality are not affected. Thereis no change in the dissolved oxygen con-tent, no sudden growth of algae and no un-sightly effects on target weeds.

Sonar works by causing a bleaching orchlorosis on the terminal bud or growingpoints of the plants.
