PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Alusion Sheet ProductsAlusion is a cellular aluminum foam material producedas a continuously cast sheet using patentedtechnology developed by Cymat Technologies Ltd.

LengthsThe standard sheet length is 8’ (2.44m). Alusion can becut to other lengths, as required. The maximum length is12’ (3.0m)

WidthsStandard and maximum width is 4’ (1.22m). Alusion can becut to other widths, as required.

ThicknessStandard thicknesses are 0.5” (12.7mm), 1” (25.4mm) and1.7” (43 mm.)..

Cellular StructureAlusion is available in two cellular structures or cell sizes,simply defined as small and large. Small and large cellAlusion foam offer differing visual effects and acousticproperties. Both are available in 0.5” and 1.0” thickness(12.7mm and 25.4mm). while only the large cell structure isavailable in 1.7” (43 mm.)

Product VersionsAlusion sheets are produced with a continuous skin onboth sides of the sheet. This is referred to as Natural. Theskin is removed to produce Open Cell versions. The skincan be removed from one or both sides dependent uponthe use of the product and desired effect. These versionsare known as 1S and 2S respectively. Large cell versionswith the skin removed from both sides are also known asAlusion translucent.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIESPanel Standard Specifications

The process used to make Alusion panels is a natural one which results in some variations in cell size and panelappearance. This natural variation adds to the attractiveness of the product as a premium surfacing material.

Standard Alusion panels are produced with the following specifications and tolerances. Engineered panels areavailable on request.

Panel FlatnessAlusion panels have a slight natural curvature however they are flexible. Panels vary in flexibility depending onproduct type and thickness. In most cases appropriate attachment methods remove any panel curvature.

Fire RatingAlusion is non-combustible, as set out in ASTME136-92. As it is composed of aluminum foam,Alusion is suitable for use at extremely high,sustained temperatures.

Alusion was tested as per ASTM E 84 to determinethe Flame Spread and Smoke-developed indices.The method, designated as per ASTM E 84-01,“Standard Method of Test for Surface BurningCharacteristics of Building Materials”, is designed todetermine the relative surface burning charac-teristics of materials under specific test conditions.Results are expressed in terms of flame spread(FSI) and smoke developed (SD).

Alusion did not ignite and propagate flame atany time during the 10-minute test period. Only avery slight increase in smoke developed wasrecorded. See Appendix.

The material has been rated Class A with FlameSpread = 0 and Smoke Developed = 5 as perASTM E84. For more details on the testingmethodology, please refer to testing methodsASTM E 84.

These ratings apply to all thicknesses and densitiesof Alusion Natural, Alusion Open Cell andAlusion Translucent.

StrengthAlusion is lightweight, and used primarily as adecorative surfacing material. It, should not beused in structural applications without consultationwith Alusion.

RecycleAlusion is 100% recyclable and is produced usingpost-industrial aluminum, which is composed of20% post-consumer aluminum.

Acoustic PropertiesAlusion Small Cell Open 1 Side (0.5” (12.7mm) and 1”(25.4mm) thickness), Alusion Large Cell Open 1 Side(0.5” (12.7mm) and 1” (25.4mm) thickness) havebeen tested for acoustic properties per ASTM C423and have shown interesting results, which can beseen at the results included in the Appendicies.

DELIVER Y & INSTALLATION

PackingUnless otherwise specified by purchaser Alusionpanels are shipped in phytosanitary containersdesigned for the specific panel sizes and numbers inthe order. All standard containers are Nefabcontainers constructed as per Nefab’s specificationswhich can be found here:

Custom packaging is available on request.Handling and StorageAlusion panels should be stored in a dry areaand in the original packaging, until installed.Flat storage is recommended. Do not storwother materials on top of Aluison clontainers

SafetyEye protection should be worn when cutting ordrilling sheets. Use of a facemask is recommendedin high volume cutting or drilling operations.

Cutting SheetsFor on-site cutting, a large-tooth, carbide-tippedcircular saw is recommended. Diamond-tippedblades will provide longer life if a very large amountof cutting is planned. A band saw can be used fortrim work and short cuts. Water or other liquidcooling and lubricating must be avoidedas the product may become discolored.

Use of a ventilation system is recommended whileworking with Alusion panels. Eye protection must beworn at all times when cutting, drilling or workingwith the material in general.

Alusion can be water-jet cut. Care should betaken to dry the cut pieces to avoid anydiscoloration.

Drilling PanelsA drill press is recommended, however, ahand-held drill will work. Diamond or Carbide tiptools are recommended.

The product should be secured during drilling and aminimum clearance of 1” from the edge of the sheetis recommended.

For through bolted or screwed attachments theuse of a washer is recommended.

Alusion recommends that test holes be drilled toconfirm that holes can be producedas desired.

For bolted or screwed attachments through thepanel, use of a washer is recommended.

Do not over-tighten when screwing or boltingthrough panels.

Curving PanelsAlusion panels can be curved using thesame process as curving glass.

Closed Cell Surface MaintenanceAlusion closed cell material can be cleaned asrequired using a vacuum with a soft brush andcommercially available cleaners which would beuse for an aluminum surface.

Open Cell Surface MaintenanceAlusion open cell material is less robust andshould be vacuum cleaned as required usinga soft brush.

INSTALLATION SYSTEMS

Each Alusion application must be treatedindividually and Cymat Technologies Ltd., doesnot recommend a specific installation system forany specific application nor does Cymat assumeany liability for the installation of Alusion panels.The following are generally suggested systemsonly

Wall Cladding Application System

Smooth - Option AThis system consists of a formed and keyed lockchannel welded to the back of Alusion panels. Theopposing keyed piece is attached to the wall andthe Alusion panels slide into place..

Wall Cladding System — Industrial LookUnlike the Smooth look, which has no visiblehardware, this wall cladding system clearly showsthe hardware, to give an industrial look.

With this system, the bracket is mounted to thewall and Alusion panels are then mounted to thebracket with machine screws.

The system is recommended for use with AlusionNatural, Alusion Open Cell and Alusion Color .

Backlit TranslucentThe system is designed to create an 8” spacebetween the panelsand the wall, thus allowing lightto be transmitted from behind the panels. Bracketsare attached to the wall with screws. Slidingbrackets are glued to the back of the pan- els.These brackets slide on to the brackets attachedto the walls and are joined together in the middlewith screws.

There are several other possible application areas.For any application, we provide the expertise fordeveloping application systems. These systemscan be manufactured based on your design. W ecan also design a custom application system suitedfor any specific architectural drawing.
