Stages of Regulation
In an LPG installation, there can be 1, 2 or 3 pressure regulation stages.
Single stageThe regulator or the automatic changeover is directly connected to the Cylinder or Tank and reduces the pressure from the vessel directly down to the appliance pressure.
First stageThe regulator or the automatic changeover is directly connected to the Cylinder or Tank but reduces the pressure from the vessel down to an intermediate pressure for a second stage regulator application.
Second stageThe regulator reduces the pressure from the intermediate pressure down to the appliance pressure or to a third stage intermediate pressure.
Third stageThe regulator reduces the pressure from the second stage regulator pressure down to the appliance pressure normally associated with 3 stage bulk tank installations.
High or Low pressure regulatorFor LPG installations the regulators families are generally defined as follows:
High pressure regulatorsRegulators delivering an outlet pressure (fixed or variable) higher than 500mbar.
These are defined as Single or First stage regulators generally upto a maximum of 4bar.
Low pressure regulatorsRegulators delivering an outlet pressure (fixed, adjustable or variable) lower than 500mbar. These are defined as Single, Second or Third stage.
Examples include:• 20-300mbar means a variable setting can be
achieved, minimum setting 20mbar, maximum setting 300mbar
• 0.75 (0.5 – 2) bar: The regulator has been preset at the factory to the un-bracketed fi gure but can be engineer adjusted between the bracketed fi gure so long as there is a minimum inlet pressure of at least 0.5bar above that required setting.
Automatic Changeover devices
Automatic changeover devices are used with 2 or more Cylinders.
The first cylinder (or cylinder bank if using more than 2 Cylinders) is called “service” the second is called “reserve”. The Automatic Changeover firstly draws the gas from the “service” cylinder. When the “service” cylinder is empty or when its vaporising capacity is not sufficient (for instance, high flow rate during a long time, use of butane-propane mixture, low temperatures, low level in the cylinder, etc….) it automatically changes to and takes the main flow from the reserve cylinder. An indicator, on the device shows that the “service” cylinder is empty.
By using an Automatic Changeover Device you can guarantee continuous fl ow of Gas without fear of interruption of service to the appliance, maximizing the amount of Gas available in the Cylinders.
There are 2 types of Automatic Changeover Device.
• High Pressure Versions delivering a First stage Intermediate pressure of 1, 1.5 and 3bar for higher capacity and specialist applications for poultry and game rearing brooder heaters or remote cylinder installations
• Low Pressure Versions which are equipped with an integral second stage pressure regulator providing a single stage outlet pressure, normally 37mb, with 29 and 50mb versions also available
Inlet pressure
The inlet pressure can be expressed in minimum and maximum values. When supplied within the declared range of inlet pressure, the regulator is able to deliver a stable outlet pressure and flow rate declared on the data label. For LPG first or single stage regulators, the maximum inlet pressure is 16bar, to ensure the correct fl ow rates are achieved as defined in the EN standard.
Outlet Pressure – Types and settings
The outlet pressure can be:
• “Fixed”: Outlet pressure is factory preset. The types of regulators with this function are sealed units with no possible chance of adjustment. Typical examples would be certain First stage Intermediate pressure regulators delivering a fi xed 0.75bar or 1bar, or Single stage Low pressure regulators typical used in BBQ applications delivering a fi xed 29 or 37mb. This will be denoted in the catalogue as (Fixed)
• “Adjustable”: The outlet pressure is factory set but it can be readjusted internally by removing the Cap on the regulator Diaphragm lid. The cap can be hand screwed, or opened only with a special cap removal tool. Compact100 and Compact 800 Automatic changeovers are adjustable via an Allen Key adjustment tool (4mm) underneath a push in grommet on the front of the regulator.
• “Variable”: The outlet pressure can be set using external adjustment methods built onto the regulator, either as a Multi-turn T-Bar, or Knob with hexagonal locking nut, or a single gradient turn 1-10 position head which is not lockable.
Pressure Relief Valve (PRV)
This is a safety device for the relief of excess pressure. Excess pressure can result from:
a) Thermal expansion of trapped gas after the regulator. LPG vapour has a large expansion coeffi cient and is effected by changes in temperature. When associated with an OPSO system the PRV prevents nuisance tripping of the shut off.
b) Creeping lock up pressure due to dirt between the regulator seat and the seat pad, this is the fi rst line of safety for downstream appliances
The type of PRV used in Clesse regulators in this catalogue are Limited Relief valves. These will show in the tables with Y or N in a PRV column if applicable to the regulator family group. This type of relief valve discharges a low fl ow (less than 10% of nominal regulator fl ow rate) and deals with excess pressures resulting from a) and b) above.
• The relief valves, will be either vented through small concealed holes in the regulator, or in some cases will have an external vent hole that can be connected to a pipe to be vented away from the regulator position.
• In the case of an external Vent hole for pipe connection, this will be denoted in the Tables in clock format with 0h having the vent positioned over the outlet of the regulator and 6h when located over inlet.
• There is an additional PRV style on certain regulators that will be able to be positioned in Multiple locations dependent on the installation, These are called Giro Vents and will be denoted in the tables if this has the function.
OPSO (Over Pressure Shut Off) Device
The OPSO safety device cuts off the gas flow in the event of abnormal overpressure that can be caused, for example, by an operating fault in a regulator (impurities on the valve seat or deterioration of a part) or by a defect in installation or liquid LPG entering the regulator. OPSO safety devices can be fi tted to high or low pressure regulators.
They are the last line of defense to ensure gas pipework and appliances are not subjected to high pressures above and beyond manufacturer’s limits. If

an OPSO device continues to trip shut DO NOT continue to use and get a qualifi ed gas installer to examine the gas installation to ascertain if any fault is causing the OPSO to activate.
The triggering pressure of OPSO safety devices can be adjustable or fi xed , however they always come factory preset at an appropriate pressure. Low pressure OPSO must operate below 150mb and are normally set at 100mb.
Regulators fi tted with these will show in the tables with a Y in an OPSO column if applicable.
OPSO’s currently are not mandatory for cylinder installation having no more than two cylinders under UK legislation however – Clesse recommends that when supplying fi xed pipework installation wherever then an OPSO device be fi tted.
UPSO (Under Pressure Shut Off) Device
The UPSO device, cuts off the gas flow in the event of an abnormal fall in pressure that can be caused, for example, by fl ow rate exceeding the capacity of the gas installation, (Cylinder size, Pipework sizing, Wrong regulator etc…), or the run out of gas and are normally associated with bulk tank supply.This safety device applies on low pressure regulators, and if fi tted will show in the tables with a Y in an UPSO column.
The UPSO triggering pressure is not adjustable (except on large capacity BP2402FC). Regulators provided with an adjustable outlet pressure will see the triggering pressure automatically adapted to the outlet pressure setting.
Where applicable, all installations, adjustments and maintenance work must be carried out by persons who have the necessary skills to do so and are qualifi ed according to the regulations in force for that particular installation.

How ACO Works
ACO Installing GuideAlways fi t wall mounted regulators above level of the cylinders with hoses falling gradually to the cylinder valve so no condensed LPG can collect in ACO or hoses.
Preferentially uses the service cylinder. When empty turn the ACO head to the reserve side and replace the cylinder. The reserve now becomes the service.

Flow rate
This is indicated as kg/h (kilograms per hour) as required by EN standards. This equates to the mass of liquid used per hour in a gas cylinder or bulk tank and can be easily converted to kilowatts (kW) by multiplying by 13.9 or dividing the kW on the appliance data plate by 13.9 in reverse, these fi gures are for propane gas.Clesse declares the fl ow rate at the lowest inlet pressure (worst case) to the regulator to ensure that consumers are covered in most climatic conditions. Be careful when comparing with other manufacturers or suppliers whom declare higher fl ow rates but omit the inlet pressure or outlet pressure drop to achieve this result. Installation
Installation must be carried out in accordance with the Instruction leafl et that accompanies the regulator.Where applicable, all installations, adjustments and maintenance work must be carried out by persons who have the ne cessary skills to do so and are qualifi ed according to the regulations in force for that particular installation.
Maintenance and Durability
Normally the regulators do not require any maintenance. Functionality of the product and of the gas installation must be checked periodically and according to any maintenance schedule or rules governed by the regulations in force for that particular installation. The recommended replacement period of a regulator by Clesse UK Limited is normally 10 years.

Rubber material and Gas quality
All the regulators are built to withstand the use of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) in vapour phase, NG (natural gas), air and nitrogen. In order to ensure correct operation and a long life expectancy, the LPG gases be sufficiently pure, and should contain no aggressive components. It is important that a bulk head mounted regulator is fi tted with short hoses and such that the regulator inlet is above the cylinder valves to ensure any LPG condensate (vapour gas reliquifying in the hoses) returns back into the cylinders and not the regulator. Always purchase your gas from reputable gas distributors.
Application
Clip on regulators are connected to the automatic valve of the LPG Cylinder. Europa screw in regulators are connected to the Handwheel type valve on the LPG Cylinders.
Both styles are designed to give fi xed low outlet pressures to domestic appliances such as stoves, cookers, cabinet heaters, BBQ’s and Patio heaters etc.

BP1803 regulators are mainly used in small LPG installations (domestic or commercial) as single stage low pressure regulators. Ideally used for internal and multiple appliances are used where engineer adjustment maybe required to provide the correct pressure settings.
These regulators are used with LPG, but can also be used in specifi c installations with Natural Gas, Air, Nitrogen and other non aggressive gases. Ask for details

Application
BP2205-CR regulators are the renowned re-designed 766P style of regulators which have been upgraded to include a Safety Pressure Relief Valve as standard.
Clesse Gold regulators offer highest level of performance and safety for small to medium LPG installations (domestic or commercial) as a single stage low pressure regulator and as a Manual Changeover Valve confi guration. Versions include OPSO, Ideal for high intensity Off take rates giving stable operating control, i.e Mobile Catering Installations.
These regulators are used with LPG, but can also be used in specifi c installations with Natural Gas, Air, Nitrogen and other non aggressive gases. Ask for details

Fully weather protected design ensuring, reliable operation together with exceptional pressure delivery performance, giving a full 5kgh 70kW with minimal deviation of set pressure winter or summer to satisfy the requirements of modern boiler demands.
As with any Clesse ACO the C800 ensures effi cient use of LPG from each cylinder based on the low differential pressure head design at 0.8bar changeover pressure.
Also includes “Le Clic” a click stop when positioning the head to service or reserve cylinder bank and weather protected breather vents positioned under the tough plastic ABS casing.
C800 OPSO goes beyond the requirements of current EN13786 design standards and satisfi es the forthcoming EN16129 standards due out at the end of the year. Manufactured in Europe by Clesse Industries in France whom is independently audited by BSI ISO 9001:2008

Whether two, four or more cylinders the C800 OPSO ensures reliable pressure delivery and consumer safety with the new over pressure protection system. No need to remove caps or pull resets - just a clear “Push to Set” device cancelling the red trip indicator. The latest in the range of Compact regulators for LPG cylinders is developed and manufactured by Clesse in France using the new patented OPSO design

Consumer Safety Reset “CSR”
Allowing the homeowner to quickly “reset and go” the gas installation, should the OPSO shut due to events such as accidental impact when changing cylinder , overwintering etc. which can be more of a nuisance than a hazard, but still protecting the consumer and property against potential excessive high pressure incidents. The new design ensures that the device cannot be tampered with or adjusted so continued intervention then clearly indicates that a qualifi ed engineer is required to inspect the gas installation and reseal in the normal way.
This fresh approach provides the user with a visual safe resettable system, less headache for the park owner, gas supplier and engineer.
This LPG cylinder pressure regulator is fi tted with a CSR safety device. Prevents excessive pressure from entering the downstream pipework protecting pipework and appliances.If the CSR activates no gas will pass this regulator - will show red inside the clear indicator (fi g.1) when viewed to the side.
To reset the gas supply please observe the following:
Ensure all the gas appliances are turned off - With the regulator connected correctly slowly turn on the cylinder valve, Push fi rmly to reset the safety device, using the protective clear cap surrounding red indicator rod inside, apply fi rm pressure (fi g.2) to engage the cap to the rod and push fi rmly with the thumb as shown until the red indicator is fully depressed and NOT visible when viewed as shown in the diagram.

5175C and 5175B Automatic Changeover regulators are a lower cost alternative that is fi xed pressure and not adjustable. Double stage by design they are for use with 2 cylinders. They contain 1st and 2nd stage regulators combined to give a fi xed outlet pressure for Propane and Butane.
They are used in domestic or commercial applications up to 4kg/h (55kW) at 37 and 29mbar.

ApplicationHigh quality LPG hosing for use with automatic and manual change overs (classifi ed as pigtails) have the cylinder connection pre-fi tted and are normally in standard lengths 20 and 33 inches.
Caravan and general purpose hoses normally 13mm internal diameter come in various lengths and end fi ttings allowing the connection of regulator or change over to the internal pipe work.
Service life up to 5 years after date of installation, however all hoses should be checked on a regular bases and when changing the gas cylinder.

ApplicationMeterboxes are designed for use with both 2 stage (750mbar) and 3 stage (75mbar) distribution systems. All comply fully to BS6400-3 requirements for gas meter boxes and regulators are manufactured to EN13785 and meters are to BS EN1359.
Green Caravan boxes are a light weight, impact, UV and fl ame resistant (BS 476-7:1997, Class 2) design made from Trovidur™ PVC. Ideal for post mounting adjacent to the home and come with emergency control valve that doubles as a disconnection isolation valve that eliminates the need for a separate valve connection kit.

ApplicationClesse specifi es and supplies metering solutions from for large or small gas offtakes to measuring usage in Primary and secondary metering. Also to determine effi ciency and carbon foot print for large offtake commercial and industrial installations. It is often commercially viable to meter gas at medium pressure (i.e. 1bar) which can reduce the size and the cost of the metering requirements.
FeaturesDiaphragm meters - are used for domestic and small commercial applicaions. They are cost effecive and highly accurate but will only work on low pressures fi nal stage pressure regulation.
Medium pressure meters come in two types - Rotary Displacement (RDP) meters and Turbine meters. For an accurate ‘billing’ meter, normally the RDP meter has to be used. By nature of its’ design, the Turbine meter will ‘run on’ once gas fl ow has stopped and it could over read in start / stop gas operations. Subsequently, this type of meter is used as a ‘check’ meter.

Choosing the Best Metering SolutionHow many times do you debate the actual amount of gas that is being used by a process? Metering your gas usage not only can save you money but it also decreases your carbon footprint leading to lower tax implications for commercial or industrial users.
Diaphragm meters are the most cost effective type of meter for primary metering gas consumption but can only be used with pressures less than 700mbar. Meters supplied have a low frequency pulse transmitter for use with remote reading systems. Clesse can also supply temperature compensated and AMR or Smart metering telemetry solutions for remote reading and prepayment - informaion on application. Below is a quick selection list of which meter you would need for the fl ow rates listed. As LPG is a denser gas than natural gas, the pressure drop over the meter is higher as the fl ow rate increases - this must be taken into consideration when sizing the meter.

ApplicationThese fi xed or variable regulators are mainly used on Domestic, Commercial, Industrial and Agricultural LPG Installations using Bulk Tanks. They provide the fi rst stage regulation function between 0.5bar and 3bar and are fi tted directly onto the Tanks or inline using Tank Manifold kits, when used with appliances these can be fi tted directly onto the heater by the manufacturer. ApplicationThese fi xed or variable regulators are mainly used on Domestic, Commercial, Industrial and Agricultural LPG Installations using Bulk Tanks.
They provide the fi rst stage regulation function between 0.5bar and 3bar and are fi tted directly onto the Tanks or inline using Tank Manifold kits, and have on OPSO (Over Pressure Shut Off) Device fi tted before or after the regulator. Design and performance to BS EN 13785 dependant on the model.
Features• Compact and Robust design on APZ400 and AP40 and in all cases fi tted as standard
with pressure test point.
• APS2000 has a pressure compensation system control for stable operating pressures under all weather and inlet conditions and fi tted as standard with Pressure Test Point
• All models are fi tted with OPSO either Upstream or Downstream of the regulator

ApplicationWall End Regulator Kits are designed to supply an external ECV and where required reduce tank pressures normally at premises. Suitable for extended pipe lengths from tank when used with intermediate pressures 750mb. Domestic to Large Commercial, Industrial and Agricultural applications. All the kits listed pressure is reduced down to a usable of 37mbar.
Use the appliance capacity and fi nal pressure to determine the fl ow rate in LPG together with distance of PE pipe, then select the tank and wall end kit for your installation. If using tank kit UUTK1B multiple wall end kits can be used up to the declared fl ow rate.
Appliance Loading of more than 10kgh consideration should be given to using multiple tanks in order to ensure correct vaporisation in the LPG storage, information below is as a guide and that you should consider below ground vessels to be 50% of the suggested fi gures. Please consult your gas supplier.

CLESSE guarantees its LPG products, for 2 years from the date of manufacture, to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service.
Products are manufactured under the trade names of Clesse and Novacomet, both of whose quality assurance systems have been assessed and certified to ISO 9001.
Please order by product reference number. Orders of £400 and above are carriage paid.
All previous terms and conditions of sale are hereby cancelled and only the following shall have effect from 1st January 2016 until further notice or replacement:
1. OFFERS
a) All quotations and contracts are subject to the following terms and conditions in which the words 'the Supplier' shall mean Clesse UK Limited and 'the Purchaser' shall mean the Company of Person named in any quotation offer and contract with the supplier.
b) Offers by the Supplier are made without obligation and shall not give rise to any contract except in accordance with Part (c) of this clause.
c) A contract for supply is created on submission of the written confirmation of order by the Supplier to the Purchaser.
2. DELIVERY
a) Time shall not be of the essence in relation to delivery. No delivery will be made until any required advance payment or letter of credit has been made or present or until receipt of any import license, where necessary, have been notified to the Supplier.
b) Date of delivery is the day on which the goods are ready for dispatch in the works or stores of the Supplier.
c) Difficulties of delivery on the part of the Supplier or his supplier either unforeseen or through no fault on the part of the Supplier shall enable the Supplier to withdraw from the contract without liability.
d) Illustrations, reference numbers, statements of weights or measures are not binding on the Supplier. The goods will be supplied substantially to the design described in the quotation. However, the Supplier reserves the right to make reasonable changes at his discretion during the execution of the Purchaser's order but such changes shall not lower the design performance of the goods. Every effort is made by the Supplier to ensure the accuracy of any technical data or literature made available in relation to the goods. However, the Supplier accepts no liability for any damage or injury arising from any errors or omissions in such technical data.
e) The Supplier shall have no liability in respect of failure to perform or delay in delivering or performing any obligations under this contract due to any cause of whatever nature outside the reasonable control of the Supplier.
f) Any claims arising out of the delivery of goods for any reason including shortages shall be delivered to the Supplier in writing within three days of the said delivery and failure to supply such written notification within the period specified shall release the Supplier from all and any obligations thereunder.
g) Carriage paid in UK on minimum value orders £400 (excluding VAT)
3. PRICES AND TERMS OF PAYMENT
a) Prices do not include VAT but any invoice for the goods shall have added to it the amount of VAT at the rate prevailing at the date of dispatch.
b) The Purchaser shall pay on request any increase in packing and transportation costs incurring between the date of quotation and the date of delivery.
c) The delivery period quoted will commence from submission of the written confirmation of the order by the Supplier. While the Supplier will take all reasonable steps to deliver the goods within the delivery period the Supplier accepts no responsibility for any failure to do so.
d) All accounts are payable by the end of the month following the month in which delivery of the goods take place unless specially extended terms have been agreed in writing. Payments shall not be withheld in respect of any claims made by the Purchaser and not acknowledged by the Supplier.
e) The Supplier reserves the right to suspend deliveries where payment is not received in accordance with any arrangements which shall be agreed in writing between the parties.
f) Agents and travellers have no authority to collect debts, unless explicitly authorised to do so by the Supplier, in writing.
g) Prices subject to alteration without prior notice.
4. PROTECTION OF OWNERSHIP
Should goods be delivered before payment by the Purchaser of all amounts owing in accordance with the contract, the goods shall remain the property of the Supplier until payment has been made. Title to the goods supplied will not be transferred to the customer until payment is made in full. The Purchaser will co-operate in all measures taken by the Supplier in order to protect his ownership of the goods. Should the purchaser not comply with the terms of payment such as in the case of protest of a Bill of Exchange he shall lose the right of disposal of the delivered goods. All costs thereby involved will be debited to the Purchaser.
Model and Sketches are issued only on loan. The Purchaser is fully responsible to ensure that articles manufactured to his specification or sample do not involve infringement of trademark or other rights of a third party. The Supplier reserves the right to deliver and be paid for 10% or more or less of the number of prices of any article specially manufactured for the Purchaser.
5. WARRANTY
a) The Supplier guarantees, at his discretion either to refund the cost of or to repair or replace free of charge any of the goods found to his satisfaction to be defective owing to faulty design, materials or workmanship within twenty four months of the date of manufacture.
b) Goods returned under the guarantee shall be delivered to the Suppliers works at the Purchaser's expense. Goods returned under the guarantee and found not to be defective will be returned to the Purchaser at the Purchaser's expense and subject to a charge of 10% of invoice value for testing by the Supplier.
c) The Supplier's obligation herein to refund, repair or replace the goods is the sole liability of the Supplier. Any other warranties, conditions and statements expressed or implied, statutory or otherwise are excluded. Subject to aforesaid, the Supplier shall be under no liability in contract or in tort for any loss, damage, death or injury arising directly or indirectly out of the supply or use of the goods.
d) Replacements or repairs made under this guarantee shall not extend the original period of this guarantee.
e) The Supplier shall not be under any obligation to accept the return of any goods except under the terms of this clause except that the Supplier may at its absolute discretion agree to the return of the goods to the Supplier's works at the Purchaser's expense and subject to a handling charge on the part of the Supplier to be paid by the Purchaser at the rate of 20% of the invoice total for those said goods.
6. PRICE VARIATION
The contract price of the goods is based upon (i) the rate of taxes, duties, imports and foreign exchange (ii) the cost of raw materials, labour and transport (iii) current import and exchange control regulations ruling at the date of the Supplier's quotation. If by reason of change in such items or any other cause outside the control of the Supplier is increased, the Supplier reserves the right to increase the contract price of the goods (and invoice the Purchaser accordingly) by reference to the rates, costs or regulations ruling at the date the goods are delivered or by references to such other causes as may apply.
7. STORAGE
Payment of any-goods which the Purchaser asks the Supplier to hold for a period longer than seven days after the date upon which delivery is due shall be made as if delivery had taken place on such due delivery date and the Supplier reserves the right to charge the Purchaser for storage of the goods from such date until date of actual delivery.
8. PATENT RIGHTS
a) The sale of any goods and the publication of any information or technical data relating thereto does not imply freedom from the patent or other protective rights in respect of their application and the Supplier accepts no liability for infringement of such rights.
b) The Purchaser shall indemnify the Supplier against all royalties or other payments in respect of any patent, registered designs or other rights which may be claimed as a result of goods being made according to design or specification supplied by the Purchaser. The Purchaser shall further indemnify the Supplier against all claims, expense and costs in connection with any infringement of any patent or registered design or other right in the manufacture of such goods.
9. LEGAL EFFECT
a) These conditions shall prevail over any conditions of the Purchaser.
b) The invalidity of any individual condition of this contract shall not affect the validity of the remaining conditions.
c) The rights of the Purchaser under this contract shall not be transferred, assigned or otherwise dealt with.
d) Any contract subsisting between the Company and customer shall be constructed in all respects in accordance with the Laws of England and unless otherwise agreed is subject to the jurisdiction of the English Courts.

Terms And Conditions Of Sale
Type of gas in the cylindersLPG (liquefied petroleum gas) contained in the cylinders are supplied either as Butane or Propane. - Commercial Butane, which contains approximately 80-90% of Butane whilst commercial Propane contains approximately 90% propane.
Large quantities of flammable vapour can be produced from relatively small amounts of liquid LPG stored in cylinders and gas tanks. This makes LPG an ideal portable fuel, cylinders must always remain upright to ensure only vapour exits the cylinder valve before it enters the regulators.
At atmospheric pressure BUTANE boils at -2°C and PROPANE boils at -45°C
Contained in cylinders or bulk tank, LPG remains a liquid under pressure and this pressure depends on the type of LPG and the ambient or cylinder temperature surrounding the cylinder . The chart shows the vapour pressure within a gas cylinder at various ambient temperatures
Vaporisation in the cylinder
In a cylinder LPG is liquid at the bottom and vapour under pressure at the top. When there is an off-take of gas, the gas volume is regenerated by boiling off the liquid part. This vaporisation cools down the liquid. The heat required to continue the LPG to boil is the surrounding air or ambient temperature in contact with the cylinder.
Propane delivers high pressure at colder temperaturers and is vaporised faster so is used and stored outside. Butane is used mainly for indoor or summer use.
During off-take, the temperature decreases, then the pressure decreases. When only a small amount of liquid remains in the cylinder, the pressure is lower than when the cylinder was full. Likewise the larger the cylinder the greater the surface area and so more vapour can be produced this is the vapourisation rate.

ExampleWhen supplying Cooker 12kW, CH boiler 28kW and fire 14kW total load is 54kW – Therefore 2x47kg cylinder combined will need to be used. An ACO will need to used with 4 cylinders (2 per side) Compact 800 -5kg/h supplying 69kW at 37mb outlet pressure would be ideal.

The maximum flow rate depends on:
- the type of gas - the level in the cylinder - the ambient temperature - the using time - the dimension and material of the cylinder - the number of cylinders
Cylinders can only supply a certain rate of vapour and must be sized so as to meet the heat input of the appliances. Often an overlooked part of a LPG installation the correct sizing and quantity of cylinders will ensure that the cylinder regulator delivers the correct delivery pressure or automatic changeover using the full contents of a cylinder before eventually selecting the reserve cylinder contents.
At Clesse and Novacomet the capacity we declare is normally “worst case scenario” to ensure the regulator or ACO operate in both very cold or hot climatic conditions and low cylinder contents. This means in most cases our regulators are “understated”
Off-take rates for cylinders are typically as indicated below and based on a continuous off take rate, some installations will require more than one cylinder and so Automatic Changeovers are use.
