The Lord’s Day Sunday, July 20, 2014

Welcome to all who have come to worship the Lord today. If you are a visitor, thank you for be-ing with us. If you have questions about Proclamation, please let us know so we can address them.

A special welcome to those from Christ the King Presbyterian Church who are joining us for our evening service. We are glad to have you here and pleased that together we can rejoice in God’s blessing on our young people as they report on their mission trip to the Dominican Republic.

I hope all of you who are here for the morning service will come back again this evening. This evening’s service will be different. We will hear from the young people from Christ the King and Proclamation about how they served the people in Juan Tomas in the Dominican Republic. I am looking forward to hearing about the trip. My reason is not just because I won’t be preaching. This evening is special for our youth and for us.

It is special for us because we will have the opportunity to hear about how God worked through the ministry of those from our churches in a different culture. Hearing about how God works should excite us. It is easy to forget that God not only calls us to service but also blesses us in ser-vice. This evening we will have a good reminder of that.

The service should be special for our youth as well. They will be able to testify to the ways God used them in serving him. There is something satisfying about being able to show how God works in our lives. Our youth had that experience in the Dominican Republic and now they are sharing with us all so we can have it as well.

We live in a world where youth culture is thought of as different and isolated from the way of life of the majority. Some complain about the way young people behave and others worry about it. Tonight we can rejoice that God allowed our youth to serve the Lord Jesus by serving others. Re-member to thank the young people for their service and to thank God for giving them the oppor-tunity.

After the service this morning Elder Jim Rogers will be available to pray with you and to answer questions about Proclamation.

***Please take a moment to silence all electronic devices. Also, there are large print Bibles and hearing assist devices available in the narthex. We ask visitors and members alike to sign the ‘Friendship Pad’ as it is passed down the row. As the pad is passed back along the row, I encourage you look at the names. Then you can greet one another by name.

Welcome

CHRIST ’S RETURN

When the Lord Jesus returns he will do so in the same way as he went up into heaven. (Acts 1:11). Jesus’ return will be bodily and he will be seen. He will usher in great changes as he judges the living and the dead. In your worship today remember that God’s people don’t fear Christ’s return, but they long for it and the marvelous trans-formation it will bring. What we do in worship anticipates what we will do after Christ returns. Try to cultivate the mindset the Apostle John calls for in Revelation 22:20: “Come, Lord Jesus.”

Psalm 96: 11-13

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the LORD, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness.

CONFESSION OF S IN

1 John 2: 9-11

Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

1 John 3: 1-3

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet ap-peared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.

Childcare: While children of all ages are warmly welcomed in our worship service, for your comfort and convenience, we have childcare (Nursery and Toddler) available during the Sunday School hour and during the worship service and a “crying room” for families with nursing infants and/or active babies located in the right rear of the sanctuary. Children seven years of age and younger are invited to Children’s Church.

Audio CD or DVD recordings of today’s sermon and adult Sunday School classes are available for a small donation ($3/$5). You may order at the media table located in the Resource Room (across from the Parlor) immediately following the 11 am service, and pick up the following week (usually). If you desire a recording from a prior week, use the order forms that are available on the table.

Today’s sermon message will be available for playback online starting tomorrow at the church web-site www.proclamation.org. You can find the sermon under “Recent Sermons” on the homepage. For more recordings, click on “Sermons & Talks” under the Resources & Media” heading in the main menu.
