Cooling systemsSingle and double steel belt coolers are used for a wide range of production processes to solidify molten products from previous processes.
A stable temperature during the whole pastillating process ensures uniform end products with high quality. Therefore nozzles are used to spray water on the bottom of the steel belt to guarantee a consistent cooling. Berndorf cooling systems are accompanied with steel belts, which possess an excellent thermal conductivity. This ensures efficient, uniform cooling and solidification of the product.
Furthermore this indirect cooling method prevents contamination between the product and the coolant. In this regard the usage of single and double steel belt cooler has an enormous environmental advantage, because both water and product pollution are avoided.
Materials like sulphur, powder paint and chemical products in the shape of pastilles, strips, flakes or sheets can be produced with our Process Equipment. All customer specifications can be fulfilled with the single and double steel belt coolers from Berndorf Band Group.

Single belt coolerCommonly, products with low to medium viscosity, density and specific heat are handled by single steel belt coolers. With the combination of feeding devices and coolers molten materials can be processed into pastilles, flakes, strips or any required shape.
A notable function is the possibility of cooling zones with different coolant temperatures. This allows to adapt to process specific cooling curves in order to have the best product solidification efficency to save energy. In addition quick and easy shutdowns, low operation and maintenance costs make our cooler even more economical.
ADVANTAGES » Production of different shapes: pastilles, strips, flakes, plates, sheets, etc. » Product specific temperature profiles due to different cooling zones » Economical due to low operating costs and maintenance costs » Environmentally friendly
7
Double belt coolerBerndorf double steel belt coolers are offered with different feeding devices in order to feed the product onto the belts. Double belt coolers are mainly used to process products from medium to high viscosities and also products which tends to curl away from the belt.
An enforced contact between two chilled surfaces ensures a faster cooling process and therefore higher capacity can be achieved, compared to the single belt coolers. Additionally it enables effective cooling of thick products at high production rates.
ADVANTAGES » Reduced floor space requirements thanks to the increased production rates » Product curling is eliminated, and production rates are greatly increased since the product is sandwiched between two belts, assuring to be in belt contact both top and bottom » Cooling can be zoned, both top and bottom, optimizing cooling performance

Feeding devicesThe variety of Berndorf feeding devices has been developed to meet different process requirements for a wide range of products. The versatile application possibilities enable the production of materials from low to high viscosities and a melting temperature of up to 300 °C as well as the production of pastilles in different sizes simply by exchanging the outer shell and nozzle bar, with or without refeed bar. Available Berndorf feeding devices are berndrop® and bernflow®.
Berndorf pastillating system berndrop® uses a stator, a stationary product distribution system, in combination with a rotating shell. In the stator, the product is distributed through a pre-distribution pipe, nozzles and a seal bar assembly, which faces against the rotating shell. The temperature of the molten product is maintained by the heating medium (steam, hot water or oil) which is circulated through the jacketed lines, refeed bar (if equipped) and stator. The unit can additionally be operated with a heat shield, depending on the product requirements.
The diameter of the produced pastilles is mainly determined by the hole size, flow rate and rotational speed of the shell.
9
If required, different pastille sizes can be achieved by adjusting the flow rate to the required specification.Simplified maintenance away from the cooling belt is possible, with our berndrop®. The pastillator can be rotated up to 90° from the cooling belt. This angle adjustment allows an easy set up and a quick and safe replacement.
The bernflow® feeding device feeds the raw material continuously in a sheet form to the steel belt surface. At the discharging side a breaker, cutter or mill is necessary for a controlled crushing of the product.
ADVANTAGES » High production output and uniform product quality » Good material flow characteristics and customized, dust free end products » Side tightness to avoid product contamination into rotating parts » Easy operation and maintenance because of slewability of pastillator
