2 Overview of PCS 7 OS Web Option

2.1 Use of PCS 7 OS Web Option

Introduction You can use the PCS 7 OS Web Option to operate and monitor automated processes via an Intranet or the Internet.

You can use PCS 7 OS Web Option in a PCS 7 system:

• With a PCS 7 OS multiple station system

• With a PCS 7 OS single station system

PCS 7 OS Web Option consists of two components:

• PCS 7 OS Web server

• PCS 7 Web client

Use in PCS 7 OS multiple station system Within a PCS 7 OS multiple station system, the PCS 7 OS Web server is an OS client with PCS 7 OS Web server functionality. An OS client that is configured as a PCS 7 OS Web server can no longer be used as an operating station (OS client) within the PCS 7 system.

A PCS 7 OS Web client accesses the project data provided on the PCS 7 OS Web server via an Intranet or the Internet using Internet Explorer. The process can be operated and monitored.

Use in PCS 7 OS single station system Within a PCS 7 OS single station system, the PCS 7 OS Web server provides the PCS 7 OS Web server functionality. The PCS 7 OS single station system that is configured with PCS 7 OS Web server can still be used within the PCS 7 system as a PCS 7 OS.

The PCS 7 OS single station system can be operated in two versions:

• PCS 7 OS single station system

• PCS 7 OS single station system (engineering station and OS on one PC station).

If you use the PCS 7 OS single station system configured as a PCS 7 OS single station system (engineering station and OS on one PC station), you can only perform process management and engineering one after the other.

A PCS 7 OS Web client accesses the project data provided on the PCS 7 OS Web server via an Intranet or the Internet using Internet Explorer. The process can be operated and monitored.

You can choose between two different configurations depending on the requirements of your PCS 7 system.

• PCS 7 OS Web standard server and PCS 7 Web client

• PCS 7 OS Web diagnostics server and PCS 7 Web diagnostics client

Note to the Reader In the following documentation, the simplified expression "OS single station system" is used for the variants "OS single station" and "Engineering station and OS on one PC station". Deviations are explicitly noted.

Designations used The following terms are used in the documentation:

2.2 PCS 7 OS Web Server and PCS 7 Web Client

OS Web server All the screens and required scripts are stored on the OS Web server so that they can be displayed or run on the Web client. All screens and scripts must be prepared accordingly (published). The Web View Publisher is used for this purpose.

Note

The OS multiple station system must not be used as an operator station (OS client) since it cannot guarantee the required reaction and response times.

Web client The operator can log on at the Web Client and access the data on the OS Web server by means of a TCP/IP connection.

The user interface displayed in Internet Explorer corresponds with the appearance of the user interface on the operator station (OS) with an overview area, work area, and key area.

All operations that the operator performs on the OS Web client are automatically logged with the name of the operator.

2.4 Information about the PCS 7 Web Option

MS Security Patch for OS Web Server in OS Multiple Station System Sporadic errors may occur under Windows 2003 with an external OS Web server and redundant OS servers.

Remedy: Install the MS Security Patch KB828741.

Web Client Setup When installing the Web Client by means of a download from the Intranet/Internet, you can choose to "Open" or "Save" the setup file. The procedure you use for the initial installation of the Web Client must also be used for subsequently installing plug-ins; otherwise the error message, "Error 1316" will be output by the "MSI Installer" service. If you use both installation paths, "from DVD" and "Download with saving", the error message does not occur.

Performance of your OS Web Server The speed and bandwidth of the Internet access on your OS Web server has a significant effect on the performance of your PCS 7 projects and selection of pictures and refresh times of your OS Web clients. Each Web Client requires a bandwidth of approximately 10 Kbps.

In contrast to a 64k modem, in a LAN you attain maximum performance; this has a positive effect on your image downloading times, updating and on the number of Web Clients that can be operated simultaneously.

Limitations at the PCS 7 OS Web Option The following restrictions apply to the PCS 7 OS Web Option:

• With the Web Client the operation of the hotkeys configured in WinCC is not supported because the Internet Explorer does not distinguish between its own operator objects (for example "Update" button) and the operator objects of WinCC.

• Synchronous script functions place a very heavy load on the system. So do not use the "SetTagxxx" function in cyclical scripts. If numerous OS Web clients (>10) call SetTagxxx functions in a fast cycle (1s or shorter), the OS Web server becomes overloaded.

• Automatic logout of a user: In the User Administrator you can configure an automatic logout for every user after a time that can be configured. This function is not supported by the Web client.

6.2.4 Overview of the Publishing Procedure

General procedure On the ES, 1+n publishing processes are necessary, whereby "n" is the number of servers (server pairs in case of redundancy) that the OS Web server accesses or whose pictures are to be published.

The first publishing process edits local @-pictures and functions on the OS Web server. The further publishing processes edit the pictures of the OS servers.

Note

In the case of an OS single station system only one publishing process is required to publish the local data on the OS Web server.

The following standard procedure applies to publishing:

1. Open the OS Web server project on the ES; Source path and target path lie on the ES during configuration

2. Publish all the pictures of the WinCC source projects on the ES (1+n actions) and then load them onto the PC station of the OS Web server.

7.3 Setting up the Web Page

7.3.1 Applying the Web Configurator

Functions of the Web Configurator The "Web Configurator" allows you to configure and manage the Internet Information Services (IIS) and hence the Web site of the OS Web server. This setup is carried out on the OS Web server after you have downloaded the project to the OS Web server. This setup and configuration is necessary in order to set up an operating station (OS) as an OS Web server and to make it accessible for the Web clients via an Intranet or the Internet.

The Web Configurator can be used to carry out the required Firewall settings for the network card if you have activated the Firewall.

Setting the default Web page You can use the Web Configurator to select which default Web page is to be opened when the Web client starts up.

• With the "WebClient.asp" setting, a process picture is displayed in the window of Internet Explorer when the Web client starts up.

• With the "MainControl.asp" setting, the Web client also displays a navigation interface that is needed for subsequent downloading of plug-ins.

The default setting is "MainControl.asp".

Use of the Web Configurator The Web Configurator is used:

• Usually after each new installation of the OS Web server

• After each project changeover

• After each new installation or after every update of SIMATIC PCS 7 components

Introduction The following table lists the functions that are supported by the PCS 7 OS Web Option if you have installed the following plug-ins on the Web client:

• WinCC Basic Process Control (BPC)

• WinCC Advanced Process Control (APC)

Note You must install the "WinCC Basic Process Control" plug-in before you install the "WinCC Advanced Process Control" plug-in.

Supported functions The list of supported functions shows you how to configure your client project on the ES in order for it run as a Web project on the Web client. Functions marked as "dummies" are not supported on the Web clients, but they do not deliver an error message in the "Web View Publisher" either.
