REPORT ON ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPUTY GRAND COMMANDER
TO: THE COMMITTEE ON THE DOINGS OF GRAND OFFICERS
FROM: R. BRADLEY ALDERFER, KCT, DEPUTY GRAND COMMANDER
DATE: 8/22/2013
It has been my honor and privilege to serve as your Deputy Grand Commander for the preceding
Templar year. During the year, I participated in a number of activities and have thoroughly
enjoyed the many friendships I have made and continue to make with other Templars from around
the United States and throughout the world. Following is a brief summary of my activities:
I represented your Grand Commandery at the Annual Conclaves of the Grand
Commanderies of Vermont, Connecticut, and Mass & Rhode Island.
I accompanied your Grand Commander to the Annual St. John’s Day Service in
Portsmouth.
I represented the Grand Commandery at the 2012 Triennial in Alexandria, where I was
honored by my election to a 9 year term as Trustee of the Permanent Fund of Grand
Encampment, and my appointment as Chair of the Committee on the Knight Templar
Education Foundation
I attended the Northeast York Rite Conference in Albany, NY.
I participated in each of the Annual Inspections within the State.
It has been a most enjoyable if not challenging year, both masonically and personally. I am
grateful for the understanding and support of the Templars both here and throughout the nation.
My experience in serving your Grand Commandery over the past several years has provided me
the opportunity to build wonderful fraternal relationships with Sir Knights throughout the United
States. For this, I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to have served, and I look forward to
continuing to serve in such capacity as may be deemed appropriate by the members of this Grand
Commandery.

GRAND SENIOR WARDEN
REPORT OF THE GRAND JUNIOR WARDEN
To the R.E. Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of New Hampshire:
Dear Grand Commander Sir,
As you know I was elected as Commander of Trinity Commandery Number 1 in April 2012, just
before I was elected as Grand Junior Warden of the Grand Commandery of New Hampshire in
May.
In the past year I have been pleased to perform the following duties as your Grand Junior Warden.
- On June 13 I presided over Trinity as the RE Deputy Grand Commander exemplified the short
orders of the Orders of Red Cross and Malta. Following this meeting I was initiated into the Past
Commander's Association of New Hampshire.
- On June 22 I conferred the Order of the Temple in Manchester where we knighted 8 new Sir
Knights. I recognized and introduced our Grand Commander.
- Beginning on August 12 and through August 16, I travelled to Alexandria, Virginia as the proxy
for our Grand Captain General to attend the 65th Triennial of the Grand Encampment of Knights
Templar of the USA.
- Also in August I attended a York Rite Grand Officer's meeting at the Manchester Masonic
Temple.
- On September 26 the Manchester York Rite bodies met; Trinity Commandery met for a brief bit
of business at this time, where I presided.
-On November 3 I attended the inspection of North Star-St. Gerard/Sullivan-Hugh de Payens
Commanderies in Lancaster and enjoyed the experience up north quite a bit.
-On November 14 Trinity Commandery met for its stated conclave and we were joined by
Eminent Richard Van Doren, Past Commander of Boston Commandery No. 2 and a line officer
for the Grand Commandery of Massachusetts & Rhode Island, who gave a presentation on Sir
Knight Henry Fowle and his importance to Templary in our nation.
-On December 1 Trinity held its inspection (jointly with Nashua) where I filled in as Captain
General during the work while trying to also handle several other aspects as our MC and others
were not present; we knighted 10 Sir Knights, welcomed SK Bob Hazleton, PGC of Maine; the
Grand Commander offered some words and I was pleased to recognize the Grand Master who was
also present.
-On February 27 I presided as Commander of Trinity. This was, unfortunately, a meeting that fell
on a snow storm evening and my previously scheduled program of having Sir Knight Kirk White
from Vermont come and perform a presentation, but I had cancelled the speaker but held the
meeting as specified in our bylaws. We had an excellent discussion in the meeting about knightly
virtues and chivalry in society, and it was a most enjoyable time.
-On March 16 I attended the annual meeting of the Past Commander's Association in Portsmouth,
followed by the inspection of Dewitt-Clinton/Palestine Commanderies in Portsmouth.
It has been a distinct honor and pleasure to serve the Grand Commandery of New Hampshire over
the past Templar year and I look forward to a long, continued service with the same.
In Faithful Templar Service,
SK Paul C. Smith
Grand Junior Warden
Report of Unfinished Business
To the RE Grand Commander and the Companions of the State of New Hampshire:
Upon review of the Proceedings of 2012, all unfinished business was satisfactorily concluded.
Sincerely and fraternally,
Dennis A. Sheridan, R.E. Grand Recorder
REPORT OF FRATERNAL CORRESPONDENCE
To the Right Eminent Grand Commander, Grand Officers and Sir Knights of the Grand
Commandery of Knights Templar for the State of New Hampshire:
Your Grand Recorder reports that all Fraternal Correspondence has been received through
this Office and has been acted upon, with the expressed knowledge and approval of the Right
Eminent Grand Commander.
Correspondence was generally in the form of approving and recommending Grand Representative
Appointments.
Sincerely yours,
Dennis A. Sheridan, R.E. Grand Recorder
Report of the Committee of Publicity and Public Relations
To the Right Eminent Grand Commander, Grand Officers and Sir Knights of the Grand
Commandery of Knights Templar of the State of New Hampshire:
The Publicity Committee reports that New Hampshire York Rite is still progressing with
candidates at all three Inspections.
We are still using the Web Site at www.nhyorkrite.com and have added a page for York Rite
Bodies’ Trestleboards and even a calendar to keep track of degree work and meetings. Sir Knight
Scott M. Ayen, EC from Sullivan-Hugh de Payens Commandery developed the calendar for us.
We encourage all York Rite Bodies to submit their notices to the Grand Recorder’s Office by
email so they may be included and their degree dates, etc. added to the calendar.
Our Facebook page is being utilized for communication as well and we encourage those on
Facebook to seek us out and interact.
Sir Knight Herbert H. Hutchinson’s daily reports of deceased or ill brethren and sisters of our
jurisdiction show tireless dedication to the craft. We all thank him for his efforts on keeping us all
up to date on our distressed and worthy Sir Knights.
Right Eminent Grand Commander, it is a pleasure for this Committee to serve the Grand
Commandery.
Sincerely yours,
Paul C. Smith
R. Bradley Alderfer, Grand Generalissimo

REPORT OF THE FINANCE AND BUDGET COMMITTEE
TO: THE RIGHT EMINENT GRAND COMMANDER, OFFICERS AND
MEMBERS OF THE GRAND COMMANDERY OF KNIGHTS TEMPLAR,
STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
FROM: BUDGET & FINANCE COMMITTEE
DATE: 04/4/2013
It has been our privilege to serve as your Budget and Finance Committee for the preceding
Templar year.
We have reviewed the records of the Grand Treasurer, and we find the Grand Treasurer’s records
well-kept and properly cast. We will defer to the Grand Treasurer for the details thereof, including
the current balances in the various investments held in reserve.
Attached are the Budgeted Income and Expenses compared to the actual expenses to date for the
current year along with a proposed Budget for Fiscal Year ending in 2014.
The Grand Commandery continues to be extremely frugal. You will note that, although we
presented a balance budget, which included $2,800 in transfers from the Conclave and Triennial
Reserves, our actual spending year to date shows a deficit of less than $400; with none of the
transfers having occurred. This reflects budget surpluses in years past.
Given that out current operating funds are sufficient to meet current needs, we recommend that a
transfer from the Triennial Reserve, sufficient just to cover the year end deficit, rather than the full
amount budgeted, will serve us well both now and in the future
Respectfully submitted, R. Bradley Alderfer, KCT, Chairman

NH YORK RITE LIFE MEMBERSHIP FOUNDATION
MARCH 23, 2013
To: Sir Knight John S. Geas., REGC, and Sir Knights of the Grand Commandery, K.T. of the State of New
Hampshire:
The annual meeting of the NH York Rite Life Membership Foundation was held on Thursday, March 21, 2013.
At the end of fiscal year 2012, we had 285 life members in the Chapters, Councils and Commanderies, of which 81
were Commandery members. This year we received 3.57259% return on our investments of $60,256.60, for a total
income of $2,152.72. The income to be divided among the Commanderies is $762.49. Because of the declining
interest on our investments, we discussed the possibility of having to increase the X-factor rates for new members. If
this happens, it will be effective March 1, 2014. This is an incentive for members considering life membership to do
so prior to February 28, 2014.
The following officers were re-elected for 2013:
Robert L. Sutherland, Jr. President
Robert G. Hatfield Vice-President
Rodney A. Robinson Treasurer/Assist. Sec.
Robert M. Argel Secretary/Assist. Treasurer
ESK Robert G. Hatfield is scheduled to complete his three year term this year. The Foundation members strongly
recommend that he be re-elected for another three (3) years.
Respectfully submitted;

Doings of the Grand Commandery Officers
To the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of New Hampshire
The Committee on Doings of the Grand Commandery Officers submits the following report.
Your committee has reviewed the reports of the following Grand Officers:
V.E. Deputy Grand Commander
E. Grand Generalissimo
E. Grand Captain General
E. Grand Senior Warden
E. Grand Junior Warden
We commend the Past Grand Commanders of New Hampshire for their continued support of
Templary here in New Hampshire. We also commend the Grand line Officers for their dedication
and attention to duty.
Our Grand Commander is also to be commended for his efforts to further Knights Templary both
within and without the State.
We urge the Junior Grand Officers, even though not required, to file reports in the future to give
the Grand Commander an idea of what all of his officers are doing and also giving them
experience for the upcoming offices they may hold in the future.
The committee thanks the Grand Commandery and the Grand Commander for allowing us to
serve this past year.

Report of the Grand Recorder
To the RE Grand Commander and the Sir Knights of the State of New Hampshire:
The Proceedings for 2012-13 are completed and have been placed on the web site. I have
emailed our sister Jurisdictions with copies of the same, as well as printed version required by the
Grand Encampment Office.
Bills for the Proceedings including materials, duplication and postage, as well as copying
and postage for Annual Conclave notices, have been submitted to the Grand Treasurer and been
paid in full.
We are going to continue ask all Grand Officers to sign for materials supplied to them
from the Grand Commandery. There are missing items that we have not been able to locate. I
recommend that the incoming Grand Commander appoint a team to consider replacement of said
Jewels, or perhaps purchasing a new set of less expensive ones.
Most Reports from the Grand Officers have been submitted one week prior to the Annual
Business Conclave. However, the request was a two week notification. Report from the various
Committees have not been so received. I respectfully request that to make the Recorder’s Office
less challenging that all reports be emailed to me in timely fashion. Last year I had to wait months
for some reports and it held up finishing the Proceedings as hoped.
On another note, all Commanderies but one have integrated into the YRIS system. I have
taken over for North Star-St. Gerard Commandery and am using that for printing dues bills and
keeping record of dues payments now. I could still bring our other Grand Bodies into that same
system and make the work for all an easier chore. I think a Seminar for all Recorders is a good
idea and hope to have that arranged sometime soon.
Thank you, RE Sir, for allowing me to serve you and your Grand Commandery
Sincerely yours,
Dennis A. Sheridan, R.E. Grand Recorder
REPORT OF THE GRAND TREASURER

account and also an Income and expense balance sheet.

A Balance sheet is attached to this report breaking out expenses

attached.

REPORT OF THE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
TO: THE RIGHT EMINENT GRAND COMMANDER, OFFICERS AND MEMBERS OF
THE GRAND COMMANDERY OF KNIGHTS TEMPLAR, STATE OF NEW
HAMPSHIRE
FROM: MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
It has been our privilege to serve as your Membership Committee for the preceding Templar year.
This year, again, no festival was planned in Manchester, and, as in prior years, we are pleased to
note that interest in the Rite continues to spread throughout the State. There has been a great deal
of activity throughout the state, particularly in Portsmouth, Manchester, Claremont and Lancaster.
While candidates in Commanderies have been fewer than in previous years, the activity level in
our Royal Arch Chapters is quite impressive, and should carry over into our Commanderies within
the year.
We continue to spread the word by making available the informative booklet, “The York Rite of
Freemasonry” at no cost to interested Master Masons at the Grand Lodge Semi-Annual
Communication in November. Our thanks to the Grand Lodge Education Committee and Sir
Knight Malcolm Wooff for assisting in this effort
In speaking throughout the State, we continue to use the tag line: Every Christian Mason wants to
be a Knight Templar, they just don’t know it, yet… More generally: Everyone wants to be a York
Rite Mason, they just don’t know it, yet….
While the membership function of the York Rite Bodies continues to be a unified effort, we
believe the appointment of a common Committee Chair for all three Grand Bodies would be most
helpful. We still need to get the word out, by letting the brethren know where they can find
information about the Rite.
We should continue our efforts to identify a single member in as many Lodges as we can who will
be visible, so that the brethren will have a “go to” person for information about the York Rite.
We should continue to make available The York Rite of Freemasonry to as many interested
masons as we can reach. As a part of this effort, we recommend that this Grand Commandery
assist in manning the information table made available by our Grand Master at the Grand Lodge
Annual Session in May. We suggest that said table be manned by knowledgeable brethren from
different parts of the state, armed with an adequate supply of The York Rite of Freemasonry,
along with other information on the Rite, such as the membership trifold, which has been
rewritten for New Hampshire, information on the local organizations, include location and
meeting times, and of course, petitions.
Our current Grand Master is more supportive of the York Rite than anyone who has served in
that office for many years. We should take advantage of that, and strive to support him in all his
fraternal efforts.
The Committee should also determine how visible our Grand Master will allow us to be. For
example, is it appropriate to appear in Lodge in the regalia of the York Rite bodies as visitors?
Can we craft correspondence for each constituent Lodge to get the word out?
Finally, each of us should contribute to the membership effort by being visible in the Blue Lodges
around the State, seeking opportunities to dispense information regarding the Order and
membership therein.

FOR THE COMMITTEE
REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON PATRIOTIC ACTIVITIES
To: John S. Geas, Right Eminent Grand Commander, Officers, and Sir Knights of the Grand
Commandery of New Hampshire:
Date: March 29, 2013
During the last Templar year, one item was referred to this Committee, participating in the Meat
House’s ninth annual Operation: Thank You! on July 29 at the Redhook Brewery at Pease
International Tradeport. The largest military appreciation event in New England, it is a fundraiser
for the New Hampshire Air National Guard’s Chaplain’s Emergency Relief Fund.
Committee member, Eminent John B. Clark was in attendance, and while noting that a number of
Freemasons were at the event, he was unable to ascertain the number of Sir Knights who were
there. It will be held again this year at the Redhook Brewery, and is scheduled for Sunday, July 21,
2013 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The Committee encourages Commanderies to promote events such
as this and the Easter Seals’ Veterans Count program among their members, and to actively support
them.
The Committee suggests that Commanderies take time at a Stated Conclave to recognize
individuals within their communities who have demonstrated the virtues of patriotism; or to hold a
Special Conclave or awards banquet. The recognition can be the presentation of a plaque or
certificate to the honoree, with a flag flown over the White House. Flags may be ordered through
the offices of Senators Ayotte and Shaheen, and Representatives Custer and Shea-Porter. The costs
currently start at under $20.00, including shipping.
The Committee recognizes the difficulties every Commandery faces in attaining an adequate
compliment of Sir Knights to participate in a Memorial Day or Independence Day parade. We
encourage Commanderies to join together to March in a display of patriotism by our Sir Knights.
Respectfully submitted,
Robert M. Porter, Grand Generalissimo, Chairman
John B. Clark, Grand Captain General

REPORT OF THE GRAND COMMANDER
To the officers and members of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of the State
of New Hampshire, I submit the following report.
I would like to welcome you to the Annual Conclave of the Grand Commandery of New
Hampshire. I can never thank the Grand Commandery enough for allowing me the opportunity to
serve you and I sincerely appreciate your faith and trust in me. I have not done any harm to the
Grand Commandery but have not dragged it down either but I feel that I have not contributed to its
growth but not left it stronger than when I started as Commander.
To our out of state quests, I want to thank you for sharing today with us. We have traveled
together, met in many places and these friends make every place I visited, it has felt like home. I
appreciate all the Red Cords that have taken the time to be with us today and all the courtesies they
have extended to me at the conclaves I have attended and regret the ones that I missed.
COMMANDERY INSPECTIONS
I attended both the Manchester and Portsmouth inspections and found them to be well
done and The Order of the Temple was well done by both Commanderies. Manchester and Nashua
combined, as well as Rochester and Portsmouth. Even though they were very well done, I would
like to see the Commanders and regular officers of each do their own work and not the same people
doing the work over and over. We should see more work from all the Commanderies by the elected
and appointed officers.
BY-LAW/DISPENSATIONS GRANTED
I granted two by-law changes for Claremont and Manchester to change their meetings by
moving days and times. All were approved by By-laws Committee and Jurisprudence.
I approved dispensations for Lancaster, Claremont and Manchester to have several Select
Masters be given the obligation for both the Order of Malta and Red Cross, so they could receive
the OOT at the inspections.
ACTIVITIES
Below are listed are the major activities I attended during my term as Grand Commander.
I attended many youth groups and I strongly urge all Grand Commandery officers to maintain close
contacts with our Masonic youth groups. These youth are our future and we need to support them to
the fullest.

CHRISTMAS OBSERVANCE
I was unable to be in Claremont for their Christmas Observance due to family commitment. I had to
cancel the Manchester Observance for Grand Commandery due to both conflicts with other
Masonic bodies and the availability. The following was my message I sent to Claremont.
Dear Companions and Sir Knights,
This is the season of great full thanks, the joyful celebration of the birth of Jesus's and
welcoming of a new year. Let us remember our Brethren and their families in the spirit of Faith,
Hope and Charity. Remember those who are separated from their loved ones performing their
duties in the armed forced and especially the ones in harm’s way.
LET US PRAY
Lord, let us grant that we may see peace in our lifetime, experience the warmth of thy
presence and teach us to demonstrate our abilities to support mankind in the performance of thy
Holy teachings that you have given us in your Holy Words. AMEN
MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR,
John S. Geas, Grand Commander
GRAND COMMANDERY BUSINESS MEETING
I believe the business meeting went very well, as we conducted all business in a timely
manner. There was a snafu, but was rectified with a little help from the building manager. We did
not have a lunch, but nine Sir Knights went to the Back Room for discussion, friendship and good
food.
STATE OF THE COMMANDERY
We have combined Commanderies for inspections and changed requirements, added new
members, shared information and as usual said "THIS IS THE WAY IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN
DONE", but that is not the way it should be done by the " GOOD OLD BOYS" we should change
our ways to modern times and not live and work in the past, do not change any of our ritual or our
ancient landmarks. We need to move with the times and involve our younger members, as some of
us, who are not getting any younger will leave our York Rite in a sad state later on without good
men to follow us.
RECOMMENDATIONS
I would like to keep the same form for inspections as we have in the past few years but put
more emphasis on having TACTICS performed at least once in the year with rehearsals.
CONCLUSION
I want to thank all my Grand Officers for their support and understanding for my year as
Grand Commander, especially at the business meeting, as we had all Grand Commandery Officers
present and several of the grand officers traveled out of state with media want to thank Trinity
Commandery for their support over the years as I progressed through the lines. I especially want to
thank REPGC Cole for appointing me to the Grand Line.
Respectfully submitted

REPORT OF THE JURISPRUDENCE COMMITTEE – 2013
To Right Eminent Sir Knight John S. Geas, Grand Commander, and the Sir Knight of the Grand
Commandery, Knights Templar of New Hampshire:
The Jurisprudence Committee has reviewed the report of the Grand Commander’s activities for the
2012 – 2013 Chivalric Year, and was pleased to receive a comprehensive report submitted in a
timely manner. We found the report to be both thoughtful and complete.
The Committee commends the Grand Commander for the extent of his travels to out-of-state Grand
Conclaves, and for his participation in both the Northeast York Rite Conference and Grand
Encampment Triennial. Also of note is his participation in activities across the entire Masonic
family in New Hampshire. His itinerary for the year shows participation with Rainbow on several
occasions, Eastern Star and Scottish Rite in addition to many Appendant and invitational York Rite
bodies. Such cross-organizational involvement is important to both the Grand Commandery of New
Hampshire and Masonry in general.
We reviewed the by-law changes approved by the Grand Commander and find them to be in
accordance with applicable regulations. While not all members of the Committee were in complete
accord with the dispensation to obligate Royal Arch Masons in the first two Commandery Orders,
the action does fall within the purview of the Grand Commander’s authority, and there are
occasions when it is justified. We would only caution that the action should be used sparingly.
Those advancing to Knighthood should be fully knowledgeable of the entire journey.
Right Eminent Sir, it has been a pleasure working with you this past year, and we thank you for the
opportunity to serve our Grand Commandery. You served this Grand Commandery well over the
past 12 months and for many years previous. We wish you continued success in all your personal
and Masonic endeavors.
In the Faith,
Robert H. Cook, PGC
Robert L. Sutherland, Jr., PGC
Richard F. Cole, Jr., KCT, PGC, Chairman

RULES FOR MASONIC DATES IN 2004
ANCIENT CRAFT MASONRY Commence their era with the creation of the world, calling it ANNOS LUCIUS (A.L.), “In the year of Light”. Add
4000 years to the Common Era. Thus 2004 plus 4000 would be 6004 A.L.
ROYAL ARCH MASONS Dates from the year the construction of the Second Temple was commenced by Zerubhabel, ANNO
INVENTIONIS (A.I.), “In the year of the Discovery”. Add 530 years to the Common Era. Thus 2004 plus 530 would be 2543 A.I.
ROYAL AND SELECT MASTERS Dates from the year in which the Temple of Solomon was completed, ANNO DEPOSITIONIS (A. DEP.), “In the
year of Deposit”. Add 1000 years to the Common Era. Thus 2004 plus 1000 would be 3004 A.Dep.
ORDER OF HIGH PREISTHOOD Dates from the year of the blessing of Abraham by the High Priest Melchisedek, ANNO BENEFACTO (A.B.), and
“The year of the Blessing.” Add 1913 years to the Common Era. Thus 2004 plus 1913 would be 3917 A.B.
KNIGHTS TEMPLAR Commence their era with the organization of the Order, ANNOS ORDINIS, (A.O.), “In the year of the Order.”
Subtract 1118 from the Common Era. Thus 2004 minus 1118 would be 886 A.O.
